The Zero MvC3 "Team" Thread

Hello guys i just bought this game yesterday and i am a Guilty Gear player and i really want to get into Zero since i love high execution and i really like Spencer because well i love bionic commando plus dat diagonal grapple assist i likey.Looking for a third character that would be good synergy?,also i know lighting loops are the main basis for learning Zero,but what other tools should i utilize and lame out with for this character?

Sentinel will be your best bet as a third. Other options would be Hawkeye, Vergil, Magneto, Iron Man ( High execution character but I wouldn’t recommend him for someone just starting ).

All you really need to use/master is Buster, that alone will pretty much win you matches.

Just the Arrows assist, which Vergil loves, and Zero can make some use of it. Hawkeye is more of a point character than an anchor IMO.

Greyhound is great for Zero. It’s fast, it leaves opponents in a standing position (awesome for stray hit confirms) and can help immensely in a projectile war, which Zero is already fairly competent at. Also, lvl 3 Buster xx Sougenmu DHC into Hawkeye is an incredible way to get Zero out if he’s on life support. The best part is that it’s hit confirmable into Gimlet for 300K for no reason at all or block confirmable (is that a term?) into Kiss of Fire for a completely safe switch out.

From that you get the bonus of a cloned Hadangeki assist, which is probably better for Hawkeye than any other character in the game. Press stand H at the same time you press the assist button, cancel into Piercing Bolt. If it hits, Zero’s assist allows you to do another s.H xx Piercing Bolt – If you end that with Gimlet you get 500K from full screen. If the first arrow volley is blocked, Zero’s assist creates a true blockstring allowing you to s.H into whatever for more chip or screen control. On block I like to go into s.H xx Balalaika (Triple Piercing!) If this happens at close range end in Trick Shot L – Rusty Nail 'cause it’s safe.

Also, with Zero’s assist you get to do df.H (slide) at the same time as your Zero assist, then cancel into Trick Shot L – Violent Fizz, Zero’s assist hits allowing you to land, s.H xx Net Arrow --> the rest of your combo. The synergy doesn’t stop there.

EDIT: I agree with The Ultimator. A patient, reserved Zero will outplay a frantic, rushing Zero any day of the week. And twice on Tuesday.

Trick shot L xx Rusty nail twice will do more chip than Piercing bolt. And I think Rusty nail is like -6 on block.

Scatter Shot is way better than Triple Piercing because it has much less recovery and does only slightly less chip. All the arrows come out once the first arrow is shot too, so you can cancel into gimlet as soon as he shoots it for a nasty full screen frame trap. (Do st.h xx Scatter shot xx Gimlet, and the scatter shot should connect during recovery of the gimlet if you did it right. You can even follow up if they got hit.)

I’d also say that I can name a bunch of characters that double fireball does more for, even though it is great for Hawkeye. (E.g. Spencer, Ammy, or any character that likes an arrow assist.

I do Piercing Bolt for the first shot to counter any projectiles that might be headed my way, I only ever do a second PB if the first one connects… Rusty Nail is +1/+3/+1 respectively from Trick Shot L,M,H.

I can’t agree on Scatter Shot being way better, I think they’re equally good. Triple Piercing covers directly above their character and has less recovery so you can act faster – So in that situation, I would say Triple Piercing is better.

EDIT: Scatter Shot has 45 frames of recovery, Triple Piercing has 35. It does come out slower, however.

Rusty nail actually has so much priority that it will beat Zero’s level 3 buster and keep going after cutting through it. That’s why I prefer it over piercing bolt.

For zoning, scattershot is better. For getting pressure off and resets, Triple Piercing is better. Triple piercing can’t be canceled early and have all the arrows come out like Scatter shot, hence why Scatter shot is better for zoning.

Rusty Nail doesn’t cause enough hit stun from full screen to combo s.H + Zero Clone Assist xx Trick Shot M – Rusty into itself again.

I still say that it’s entirely situational. One really isn’t better than the other. We’re not always canceling the special into Gimlet and sometimes preventing the opponent from super jumping can come in handy. Scatter Shot doesn’t do that. They’re both still incredible tools.

Using gimlet in that setup i posted does prevent them from Superjumping. They’ll still be in block stun from gimlet when scatter shot hits.

Yeah, but meter is a finite resource. It’s a good zoning trick, but it isn’t always available.

What do you guys think about Zero/Vergil/Doctor Strange with bolts?

I recommend Zero/Strange/Vergil.Bolts or Daggers are good, but bolts do work better.I’ve been messing with this team,Doctor Strange Teleport mixups are really good and has good damage espically if you tiger knee them,but i think at this point he should be mainly a anti-Morrigan character,also anchor Vergil is always good.

Yeah I do think having vergil on back is too good but I really like having vergil with bolts
geting 2-3 teleport mix ups is too good
but the downside to this team is that its two characters and an assists

Hey, I am working on making a new Zero team (been playing him since i first picked the game up, don’t plan on dropping him). I was Using Zero/Doom/Vergil but I want to know what you guys think about a Zero/Storm/Dante team. The assists I plan on using are Hadangeki/Whirlwind/Jam Session. The idea of having Storm in the second spot is for DHCing into Ice Storm from Sougenmu/Devil Trigger to punish things (also to get Zero his powered up assists).

Sounds solid for the most part, but Storm gets better mileage out of a Tatsu or Hadoken like assist. Jam session, not anywhere near as much. I would suggest Zero/Storm/Sentinel, Zero/Storm/Akuma, or Zero/Storm/Frank.

So i’ve been dicking around with new characters as I tend to do pretty often. What characters would you guys suggest for a Viper/Zero shell? Strider would be nice but i don’t think that team has enough protection or life. Doom/Ammy/Task are all thoughts just was curious if anyone tried getting the most out of these two yet.

Dante would work on anchor for the assist, but I don’t think that team has a lot of synergy outside of two characters liking jam session.

Doom might work too, but then again, he isn’t the best anchor.

You basically want antiair assists for Viper, and Zero can deal with whatever you choose for her.

Rocket Raccoon might even work, since log trap takes up a lot of the screen.

good point. and after messing around with em the only reason i like viper is; 1-start of the round issues vs certain characters and if she kills 1 usually the rest of the team dies. i may follow in your footsteps and play zero_____ ammy i just feel like a tank should go between those two. Task is a good gimmick since you can team hyper then unblockable the character.

You honestly just gotta mess around with team hypers in training mode and see what works. It’s how I found Spencer/Ammy THC.

But I’ve started playing Zero/Ammy/Phoenix more, but I still play Spencer instead whenever I find that a Vergil/Dante is giving me trouble.
