yeah i noticed the phoenix team in your sig, quite ballsy my friend. How does that team deal with extreme rushdown characters for ex: wovlerine+beam/kuma. wesker+beam etc. ammy’s assist is really good in the neutral game but not so much when you’re getting rushed down. the mix up potential is pretty amazing though.
Well, I’ll quote one of my friends here when he said, “Wow, that new team is SQUISHY.”
It does well if I can get the first hit with Zero, but if he dies, then Ammy has to put in some serious work. If i’m playing against an up-back finger lasers Doom then it’s harder, as Ammy can get lamed out very easily.
It also loses very hard to team scrub, AKA Vergil/Wesker/Strider. It pretty much loses hard to Vergil/Strider in general, as all 3 characters have a lot of trouble with both of those characters in one way or another.
Against rushdown, I usually just pushblock them away and then start zoning again, making use of the pizza cutter a lot. Wesker isn’t a problem for the team really, since the whole team does well against him on their own. If he’s playing with a beam, I usually try to snipe it with super jump and sword dives (with Ammy) or shoot it with the buster. Weskers seem to really like to dash under you when you’re at super jump height, so I usually use pizza cutter/air H with Glaive equipped when they try to use that mixup.
And if you’re screwed with anchor Phoenix with 3 bars or less, then you have to use the TK trap infinite if you can’t kill a character meterless.
After a while, Ive come to realize, Dante’s Jam Session is just waaaaaaaay too good for Zero to not use it. I know we all knew this since the beginning, but I’m real serious when I say the space control/mixups/zoning Zero gets from Jam Session is absolutely stupid.
Fixed.
Yeah, i’ve actually dropped Zero until I find a suitable team. I feel like he needs Jam Session all around, and Rapid Slash for reliable conversions off of every situation, but I don’t feel like Zero/Dante/Vergil is a solid team all around.
Personally I feel like the issue is that I don’t find Dante very good in the 2nd spot ( for my playstyle anyway, I pop XF2 on the first chance I get and usually win off of momentum from there, I can’t get much mileage out of XF2 Dante in comparison to other characters ).
But yeah, due to my being human and not having perfect execution, I feel like I need Jam Session+Rapid Slash+A 3rd horizontal assist if I want to play Zero comfortably.
I might have settle on just Zero/Vergil/Strider for a more all around team though. Other teams I was thinking about was Zero/Dorm/Dante or Zero/Dante/Frank
I don’t think Rapid Slash is necessary at all as an assist, but it is insane how good Jam Session is for Zero.
Of course, I don’t think Zero needs any assist. He’s that good.
The problem is:
Zero/Dante: best friends since vanilla.
Now, what are our options for a 3rd character?, we have:
Magneto (Disruptor): Decent anchor, assist is good for teleport mixups, can work with Jam session, disruptor is a fast assist.
Doom:(Misiles or Beam) Yeah, we know what doom does. Legit anchor IMO. Amazing assists, but not sure how good for Dante. Can get lamed out.
**Strider **(Vajra): Gdlk for zero AND dante, incredible (read: stupid) anchor. Basically a better phoenix.
Vergil: (Rapid slash) works really well with Zero, Dante…a bit. Really good anchor. I don’t really like ZMC though.
Sentinel:(Drones) Decent anchor, amazing assist for both Zero and Dante. He is kinda ass unless you really put the work (and still he’s kinda ass)
Ammy (Cold Star) good for lockdown, legit anchor, slow super is godlike, I don’t really know how well she works with Dante to be honest, if they do work well. I’d say she’s a nice option.
**Akuma: **(Tatsu) The other best friend from vanilla. Tatsu is good for pressure, teleport mixups and as a GTFO (though not as gdlk as it was in vanilla). Legit anchor, has 2 invincible supers and an invincible special (shoryu).
It makes it hard to choose, because the only one IMO that works for both chars without being a semi-viable anchor is Strider.
If anyone has other suggestions, please write them here.
Sure Zero doesn’t need Rapid Slash, he doesn’t even need Jam Session and thats like the most godlike pairing i’ve ever seen. But having RS/JS basically completes him as a character in a sense.
I dunno, I suppose I have a bit of non-theorycrafter in me when I look at Zero. Zero is godlike in theory ( and in real play ) but for tournaments he just doesn’t make the cut for a variety of reasons, so i’d classify him as the best character, but not the best tournament character. Magneto on the other hand is on the other end, where hes just a godlike tournament character.
What i’m getting at, is that having both Rapid Slash/Jam Session makes Zero a reliable tournament character considering everyones level of play at the moment. I also think the results support that a bit, seeing Zeros like Mihe and Flux having some of the more impressive showings of Zero.
Thats just of course assuming you’re making the team with Zero in mind.
zero (any)/doom (beam)/strider (vajra) or zero (any)/doom (beam)/wesker (gunshot)?
Why would you want Wesker on the back? OTG doesn’t help Doom or Zero.
after watching canada cup over the past weekend, I’ve been inspired to trying playing Zero/Frank/Dante.
seriously, after watching Bee play his team, I never realized how amazing the pairing of Frank+Dante (Frank with Jam Session and the Frank/Dante THC is just too good!) is. With Zero’s dash-canceled TAC tech and Jam Session, I figure lvling up Frank with this team would be absolutely no problem. Shopping Cart could also lead into sougenmu unblockables and other derpy mix-ups.
Any thoughts?
I think the proper order is Zero/Dante/Frank for a few reasons
-
You can do a meter neutral combo 100 hit combo by DHCing Rek>Devil Trigger and Sky Dancing to hard tag Frank for an instant level 5, also kills 1m-1.1 mill health characters if you want to burn the extra bar ( which you will of course have, because you start with 1 )
-
If Zero gets bopped, Dante has better options on incoming and won’t be totally free to basic incoming mixups. ( I suppose the flip side isn’t so different, if Zero AND Dante get bopped then you’re pretty fucked on incoming for your anchor )
-
Safe DHC ( not that it matters much )
-
If you want to TAC into Frank, you can still do so just by calling Jam Session then relaunching and you will TAC skip into Frank.
-
Dante+Shopping Cart probably gets a hit easier than lvl 1 Frank+Jam Session ( arguably ), and Dante can still DHC into Frank for the level up.
-
You get more synergy and options for ToDs when you run Zero/Dante, like DHCing into DT+XF and Thunderbolting for kills, or if you want to do Genmu Zero+XF and hard tag Dante for the kill, i’m sure theres more stuff but I don’t run Zero/Dante so im not too versed in the options.
But you know, Zero/Dante/Frank kind of just goes against the whole mentality of theory Zero. Lvl 4/5 Frank is just a “win more” character when in theoryland, you can just win with Zero if you actually get that hit.
Spencer: Resets/mixups for zero after an otg dive, decent anchor if you know how to use him, helps dante with general combo extension, high damage, unscaled grapple and BIONIC ARM
easier relaunches for zero cause im not very good hehe and unblockable setups perhaps
im trying zero/dante/magneto thats probably better
Wesker gives Zero the option to literally kill off of anything anywhere. That’s the one strength Zero/Doom/Strider lacks. Wesker also gives Zero the ability to tag on more damage at the end of a combo even with max hit stun deterioration.
Zero/Doom/Strider is probably the best full screen zero team. In order to maximize your mileage with it though, you need to be getting a lot of damage in the keepaway and random hits department because you’ll find yourself in a lot of situations where you can’t convert as conveniently as you’d like. The amount of chip you can generate with this team is ridiculous though. This is a team that you can get away with just throwing away meter for hadangeki lockdown though because strider brings them back down.
On that note, I’m going to fuck around with team Resident Evil Zero (Zero/Chris/Wesker). It’s just a shittier version of my main team, but it’s a team I must play for Piers.
Dante may optimize Zero, but i have never liked how he has played, ever.
Never liked Dante before but he’s forced himself on me with that assist. Now that I’ve accepted my fate playing with him is starting to be fun.
Zero Doom(beam) strider is very good. I suspect Zero Dante Strider is better. Strider is ok for Doom but is never what he really needs to do serious work.
Add Doctor Strange to the Zero/Dante anchors list. Except you don’t actually want him acting as an anchor. The strategy (after Zero does his thing) is you run Dante/Strange and punish any button press with THC XFC into 1 or 2 dead characters, then swap Dante out and now you have Strange teleporting around with Jam Session and anchor Dante. Doesn’t always work out though
Sounds like a good strategy, except I think Doctor Strange gets more mileage out of Weasel shot doesn’t he?
Maybe, but Zero is on the team.
