The Zero MvC3 "Team" Thread

Right, I was just under the impression that Jam could be counter-called to be beat missiles or at least keep it under control, so I was thinking keeping Dante would be best. Yipes showed that Dante+EMD from Magneto is a good way to keep Doom off the screen as well, worth a shot.

Understandable if you want to find a new shell to replace Dante/X, since i’ve fought some pretty decent zoning teams as Dante and that shit is ass if you don’t have proper assists, everything gets blown up. I wouldn’t recommend trying to beat Hawkeye+Missiles with another zoning shell though.

This is a bit off topic, but I wanted to make sure I caught a wide zero-playing audience:

My controller broke, and I need a new one. Id been using the madcatz fightpad and LOVE its dpad. But having 6 face buttons and 2 triggers has made playing zero impossible (please don’t argue this, just trust me). Anyhow, rather than embarrass myself and try to go busterless, I wanted to ask all the zero pad warriors out there, which controller do you use/recommend?

(Xbox 360). I don’t like the default microsoft 360 dpad, nor psx. The fightpad’s pad is sooo perfect. I’m virtually incapable of messing up a motion with it. A 4 face button option with a similar d pad would be ideal if such a thing exists.

Any thoughts, pad warriors? Thanks!!

(Inb4 ‘get a stick!!’ Yuk yuk, thanks for that, genius)

Can you elaborate? Vajira gives you anti runaway, but so does jam. jam gets you mixups off any blocked normal, much better mixups on incoming. Most of the vajira mixups in neutral are throwable. jam session gives unthrowables.
s.H call vajra, teleport. escape by mashing throw and holding forward.
s.H call jam teleport meaty. jam connects as blockstring, pushes them toward you for high/low/left/right nonsense.

I’ve been strictly playing jam session for the past few months. It’s only good in the corner otherwise if people have experience against it they know how to avoid it. Otherwise as a neutral assist its subpar. Vajira creates a situations where they have to block and it doesnt create multhit block stun so you can do teleport buster mix-ups with ease and against some team comps it forces the opponent to come to you which you want to do with zero since he has a 5 frame buster that can kill on a touch.

i don’t get how you can avoid it? there’s no avoiding if you do it correctly (only exception is xfactor guard cancelling). You swing, they block, you call jam session, teleport behind into an air H which is a 50/50 from the ambiguous jam session push at the end. they HAVE to try and block this. they cant jump out or do anything.

the vajra does not work nearly as well. vajra doesn’t create multi-hit block stun so you can’t setup vajra off every single block string the way you can with jam session…you really can only get that teleport buster mixup if youre pretty close since vajra has such little blockstun… i figure they can jump out before you even get to do your mixup most of the time…THAT is a setup people can avoid.

i think for a few select matchups strider is better (keepaway), but jam session overall provides SO much for zero. like ontop of everything block string wise, it creates the most ridiculous mixups for a character coming in, they are forced to block instead of just one vajra hit. i think that is a worlds difference for zero. especially when it comes to buster charging up.

I’m actually liking Vajra over Jam Session as well lately. More uses overall

Are Tatsu or Disruptah particularly good for Zero (seperately, not together)? When i get my new controller, whichever it may be, Im going to finally go hard at learning Zero. And Mag and Tatsu-Task are two of my best/fav characters, Im just wondering how compatible they are with a Zero on point. I figure, being excellent assists in general, they can’t be horrible or anything. But does a Disruptor into command teleport open up and confirm naturally like a Plasma Beam or arrows might? And is a landed midscreen tatsu easily converted to combo along the lines of a Jam Session kind of air confirm?

I’ll most def be testing all this out once I have a controller again, but wanted to get a head start on the ‘brewing’ process. Thanks!

I’ve dropped Spencer in favor of picking up a new character, any suggestions? (For Zero and Ammy.) I hate Dante, Vergil, and Doom, but I’ll play just about anyone else. (Might even try Phil’s team, but the chicken has never worked well for me in the past.)

I feel your pain Ultimator. Never felt a connection with any of the 3 you listed (partially because I never played any of the DMC series) and never really read any of the Marvel comics (and I never liked Doom in the movies) lol. But I’d say that it’s a hard choice because Vergil is the best anchor out of the 3 and he ups zero’s damage when zero is on point while i don’t think vergil helps ammy that much. However dante can help both zero and ammy in the neutral w/ jam session. Ammy could probably even semi zone alittle w/ jam session covering her or if they block jam session on the ground. Dante compared to Vergil isn’t as good as an anchor and I’d say that dante could be a better anchor than doom. And doom depending on assists can help both and doom/ammy thc works wonders. Also Doom can take advantage of TAC’s so if you have doom 2nd or 3rd he can up the damage of one of the characters from behind.

@ the Jam Session vs Vajra discussion:

Seriously people, Zero/Dante/Hiryu is legit. I still don’t know why it’s taking people so long to realise this.

I will never stoop to the level of playing Strider Anchor. Fuck that character.

I don’t want to play those characters, lol. They are too scrubby/mainstream for my tastes. I will go into training later today to see what I can come up with.

you play zero. you’ve already stooped.

I’ve played Zero since day 1 of vanilla and won’t stop playing him even if he somehow becomes garbage tier. It’s called being loyal to your characters.

oops i thought you meant that you wanted one of those 3 on your team lol. My bad.

you can justify your actions, i’m just sayin’ playing zero isn’t better than playing anchor strider.

Yeah, I tried Dorm last night and he worked fairly well, but I think there’s better out there. I’m thinking about trying the Raccoon. Zero/RR/Ammy or Zero/Ammy/RR sounds pretty good to me, but the Raccoon will take some work to learn…

BTW guys, Zero/Iron Man/Ammy isn’t that great. IM and Ammy have little synergy outside of their assists being decent for each other, lol.

The difference is, people play anchor strider because they can just press any set of buttons they want and win. If you think Zero is the same way, you might want to reevaluate how you play the character. Sure, people don’t know how to fight him yet, but if you think you can press buttons randomly and win with him against legit good player who know the matchup, you’re mistaken.

One of my friends once said, “I think the derpiest version of any character is the character with XF3.”

I don’t play Zero because I want to win, I play him because i’m loyal to my character. The majority of people that play Strider anchor play him because he’s top tier and they want to win, not because of character loyalism.

I happen to like Zero Doom Strider and Magneto. Strider anchor is some of the most bullshit and fun things to do. The only people I play that wasn’t love at first sight are Dante and Vergil. However, the Wonder Twins are growing on me. If you win for me there is love in my heart for you.

I am pretty sure most people who play Strider don’t play him because he is fun on anchor…he is like a lesser Dark Phoenix who doesn’t require 5 bars.

But I am derailing the thread, so let’s get back on topic,
