I think Zero/Vergil/Strider is arguably the best zero team now. The best Zero team may not even be about optimizing Zero since he already has the best neutral game in the entire cast. It may be giving him a great tag team he can work with that can also function as an insurance policy if you fuck up. With Zero/Vergil/Strider, you get two of them.
Lately, i’ve been doing a lot of mix n match by throwing in Dante/Vergil/Strider/Doom along with my original Wesker/Taskmaster for Zero teams. I’ve pretty much gotten some good mileage on every combination you can throw together and you can pick any two out of that list and pair them with Zero and still have a relatively good team. I also concluded that as good as Zero is, there really is no such thing as a truly perfect Zero team yet as every combination had a weakness or lacked something that other combos did very well.
On that note, has anyone else dabbled with shopping cart assist? That shit is retarded with Zero. I’d use it more if picking frank west wasn’t the equivalent of tossing a bunch of coins into the air and hoping a few land on heads.
I have here and there. I can vouch for it being really good, probably even better than Tatsu for Zero.
You’ll have to check Kef’s videos and watch gameplay of SU Cless. Kef has a couple videos on how to get Level 4/5 frank with Zero/Dante/Frank (or Z/F/D), and Cless plays Zero/Frank/Ryu. He’s got some really cool tricks on how to level him up, so see if you can find some gameplay of him.
Or you can use TACs to level him up to Level 5. Best way to do that is to do the airdash tech to get an almost-guaranteed TAC and then do the regular combo from there.
Pretty much this. Vergil/Strider is one of the lamest, scrubbiest things discovered in the game right now. Only downside of it is that Vergil can’t confirm off of a raw Vajira without burning a bar for Spiral Swords (There is actually a way to pick up off of a Helm Breaker/Vajira without XF with Spiral Swords.) or XF. Not to mention Zero becomes super lame with Strider assist AND Rapid Slash.
I think that people really shouldn’t be picking Zero-optimized teams like Zero/Dante/Vergil that are still great if Zero dies, but aren’t as strong as Dante(or Vergil)/Strider with Zero on point.
Don’t like zero/frAnk simply because frank is a liability. Sure the assist is great and you can unlockable tac after a long Ass combo for levels but that still doesn’t make up for the frank west liability. I think the meta has moved past assist only character slots with the exception of strider because his is truly amazing for any team.
3. Zero/Doom/Strider
Strong but the weakness is Doom. Doom on point works but Strider is not his favored assist. You spend too much time chasing people down, so long as they know the strider matchup. Strider does very little to help you against rushdown where Doom already has a hard time if it gets started on him.
2. Zero/Dante/Strider
Better than Doom I feel. Yes you lose ToD with Dante but you should be getting hits with Dante where Doom should not. I’m going to learn this to up my Dante powers.
One big weakness on this team is how well Vergil shuts down Strider. Especially alone. If Strider is alone versus vergil with meter and/or team it is rough for him.
[Mags|Dante]/[Zero/Vergil] /[Dante/Doom/Strider/Mags] example Mags/Zero/Dante
maybe controversial, and cheating since its not a single team. pattern is very good point character who needs a DHC into loops to ToD. Pick your favorite looper, and pick the best assist that works great for both. In this Mags likes Doom and Dante about equal but Zero loves Dante, where Dante is better than Doom solo.
I think any good Mags/Dante team should fight zero off. Which isn’t really relevant to how well a zero team does against other teams. But this is a Zero team if you flip him on point so should do pretty well overall. Against Vergil, many mags/dantes don’t like that fight but Zero does pretty good there.
I’m playing Mags/Zero/Doom because it is easy but will be switching to Mags/Zero/Dante when Dante is up to snuff.
Oh. One reason to favor Zero in spot two over Vergil is the existence of invincible crossover counter.
I do think **Mags/Zero/Dante **is the strongest of that team template. So harass me on that point.
Magneto doesn’t really need DHC to lightning loops though, since he builds a ton of meter while doing a crap load of damage. I think Magneto favors Rapid Slash over any of Zero’s assists too. Not to mention that Zero and Magneto build a ton of meter, and there isn’t really anyone to burn the bar with on that team unless you do nothing but finger lasers with Doom. That’s pretty much the main reason you see Magneto/Vergil a lot more than Zero/Magneto or Magneto/Zero.
Both versions [zero |vergil] are strong. Mags can trade rapid slash for a crossover counter. Zero gives you godlike incoming mixups where Vergil gives you meter burn for neutral. I could see someone switching it up based on matchups.
Mags needs loops for ToD off throws. which would require a TaC/reset otherwise.
These are two points that I had considered myself, and I tend to agree with you on Z/V/S after everyone weighed in above. It makes sense that it is best to give him a shell that is dominant on its own, since there is no truly perfect Zero team. Vergil/Strider is better than the shells that people usually pair with Zero (Doom/Strider, Dante/Strider, Dante/Vergil), hence Zero/Vergil/Strider is probably the way to go.
I think this is a great way to think about constructing teams (Point/“looper”/assist), and it has already been successful in high-level play. Vergil seems to work better in this construction than Zero since he has better assists and does better with meter in the neutral game, but I can see why you like Zero in that slot as well. Still, I think Zero/Vergil/Strider has slightly stronger options (Zero/Strider, Vergil/Strider, Strider anchor vs. Mags/Dante, Zero/Dante, Dante anchor), but that’s just my personal preference.
I’ve been high on Zero/Frank for a long time - it’s just leveling him w/o depending on TAC really limits your options for a third character. Best I could come up w/ was Zero/Dante/Frank. Virgil could work in Dante’s place, but then you have two horizontal assists.
I used to be (and still am) a big supporter of Zero/Doom/Strider as the best Zero team, but Zero/Virgil/Strider is right on it’s tail.
Some low-tiers you can stick in the middle of Zero/*/Dante and get some good results: Ironman, Dr. Strange (Bolts!!!), Jill, Nemesis
I played a lot of Zero/Iron Man for a while, mostly with Unibeam. It’s an amazing assist that has all the strengths of plasma beam and none of its weaknesses. But in order to make Iron Man work for your team though, you need another horizontal assist or have to be willing to put him last to support your secondary point character. With the latter idea, i have Zero/Vergil/IronMan as something i’ll be toying with soon.
I like Repulsar Blast better than Unibeam. IM’s beam comes out really slow and while it’s the only beam assist in the game that hold’s the opponent in place, I just find that it’s gets stuffed a lot due to it’s slow startup. Or it could be entirely me making bad assist calls. Repulsar gives you a lot of different mixups and once you learn how it hits (always drops the opponent on the opposite side that it hit), confirms become pretty simple, but look ridiculous.
For a while I was playing with Zero/Ironman/Strange (BOLTS!) and Zero/Ironman/Dante - both have a lot potential IMO. W/ your Z/V/Tony team though I can see Unibeam being the better the option.
That might be good if IM had a way to use Crossover Combinations more effectively (it would also kinda solve his issue of having a bad air dash), but proton cannon stays on the screen for a while. Not to mention you’d have to use Unibeam if you wanted the entire team to have more synergy, since Ammy prefers Unibeam. (Although Repulsor is pretty good for her as well, just not as good as Unibeam.)
It would have to be something to try in the lab, but it could work.
actually… even with the slow start up, the assist call has ironman way behind the point character when unibeam is coming out, which actually makes it very difficult for people to clip mr tony starks.
I know from personal experience as a Zero player because I train frequently with a local dante/ironman player in my area named DapVip and it irritates the hell out of me that ironman is literally “behind the scenes” when he’s shooting unibeam. The only times I’ve ever seen unibeam assist get punished were when someone like captain america would either charging star through it or cartwheel through the beam and travel behind the assist to punish it.
but yeah repulsar is gdlk… it’s one of the few legit anti-air assists that this game offers.
Nothing new has surfaced much I’ve been trying random teams but zeros team composition is pretty linear. There are rare cases though like taysons team.
