I wwouldn’t switch teams because your scared of blocking. Vergil and Hawkeye both have amazing tools that cover a boy of bases. Magneto is good but with just jam session not really and Dante is decent second but… you shoulda only switch to zero may squeeze in counter pics.
Doom is the way to go. I’d only pick Hawkeye if I were playing him last so that Vergil can use his assist. Zero doesn’t really benefit from Greyhound as much as he does from Missiles.
So I’m a bit scared to return to the Zero boards given some of the hostility towards people asking questions that have already been answered before (yes I did use the search function, but here goes:
I’m pretty set on using the Vergil / Strider pairing, but as a former Zero player I’m thinking about adding him into the mix (my Dante is still very very weak.) In matches, Strider assist has pretty much been helping me to zone with buster and create space before going in for a mixup, similar in principal to Magneto + missiles.
I have two questions then:
Are there optimized Zero / Vergil / Strider ToD combos, and if so what are they?
What are the strongest incoming and neutral mixups Zero gets off of Vajra?
LMH f+H S j. MMHS > Buster relaunch > j. MMHS > buster relaunch, call rapid slash, S, j.S, j.S >> buster relaunch minus the S >> call vajra, H ryuenjin (strider knocks them back down) >> rekkoha. (there is a video of this somewhere on youtube or in these forums)
Don’t think this TODs, maybe 800k 900k but pretty good nonetheless.
Sometimes hit stun decay is too much after the rapid slash SSS fiasco, so you can take out the second j. MMHS to alleviate that.
Also, you can add lighting loops after the third dive xx buster xx lightning, THEN finish the combo as shown above. This variation hits about 1M to 1.1M?
I don’t play strider so can’t help you with the second question.
Anything ending in lightning loop will probably kill most characters. If they’re not dead after the first lightning loop, call Hiryu, do Ryuenjin H, and the Rekkouha. That should probably finish off everyone. Basically, carry to the corner (using Vergil if necessary), do the corner loop + Vergil extender if applicable, go into lightning loop, and use Rekkouha at the end if necessary.
As for Vergil, I don’t really play him but I do know that both Ryuenjin and Vajra allow him to combo off of High Time (and, by extension, off of ground throws and Helm Breaker).
Using Vajra can be seen here:

I can’t find a video for Ryuenjin, but basically what you do is:
[]Position yourself to be quite far away from the opponent, so that the hitbox of High Time is only just touching them.
[]Call Zero.
[]Do High Time and teleport back down as soon as you can. The very tip of Zero’s sword should hit them after High Time and only do one hit.
[]Super jump up forward and catch them with j.MHS while they’re still in hitstun from Ryuenjin.
Zero can’t really do much with Vajra, since it’s very difficult for him to convert off of. His solo mixups are probably better anyway.
Vergil off high time, ryuenjin works. Vajra technically works but good vergils claim it is inconsistent.
Zero converting off vajra isn’t beyond reason. Get close, Dive, land buster dash s.M S.
Alternate is M Dive, Buster, Hienyaku L (down) land dash s.M S.
Comparison, Zero converting off strider is way easier than connecting High time into strider into a followup.
Incoming mixup with strider is for zero works really well too.
I may try Zero/Storm/whatever anchor I can extend to rekkoha. Maybe strider or something but basically the storm dhc is amazingly safe especially from Sougenmu. Plus random team hyper supers are soo safe… rekkoha and hail storm? Any thoughts?
Dropping Felicia and going back to Zero, is this team good?
Zero/Doom w/ Missiles/Strider w/ Vajra?
Any female characters that I can replace Strider with if possible and still have a strong team? Alternatively can I just use Doom as an anchor and have my second slot be taken up by some female? If so, who? I don’t know if Doom is a good anchor or not and I’m not too sure if I can stand doing the whole Astral Vision thing with Morrigan. I really just wanna drop Strider as a female replacement for Felicia, but if he is **great **for the team then I guess I can stomach sticking with him.;д;;д;
Zero/Dante/Hiryu and Zero/Doom/Hiryu are the two best Zero teams in the game. If you want an optimized Zero team, then you’ve got one. If you’re putting a chick on a team with Zero, chances are that team is not going to be optimal for Zero.
Amaterasu is an amazing partner for Zero and Doom. I occasionally use that team for counterpicks.
coughAmaterasucough
Best Zero/Ammy teams are Zero/Ammy/Frank, Zero/Doom/Ammy, Zero/Taskmaster/Ammy Zero/Spencer/Ammy, and Zero/Dante/Ammy. Zero/Dorm/Ammy might be really good too.
Philippro’s team, Zero/Ammy/Phoenix, is also pretty good, but I don’t like the team that much if Zero dies…
I’ve been trying to figure out the best Zero teams for a while now, and I’m starting to lose my mind. I was hoping to community could help me out with some feedback. Anyone agree/disagree with the top 3? What about the next few? Did I miss any notable teams?
1. Zero/Doom/Strider
I think this is the best Zero team overall. It has the best battery, one of the best anchors, and Doom is probably the best support character in the game (you can run either missiles or plasma beam depending on the matchup). To start, Zero has really good control of the neutral with Doom and Strider, and he can TOD from any situation. Doom gives him a safe DHC in/out, and if Zero dies, Doom/Strider still work well and can TOD off 1 hit. If Doom dies, then XF3 Strider almost always has XF3 + meter to work with, and most characters can’t handle it.
2. Zero/Dante/Strider
This team functions a lot like the team above. The only reason I have it lower is that when Zero dies, Dante has a hard time TODing characters without burning meter or XF. In some cases, this gimps Strider when Dante goes down. Still, Dante/Strider has some nasty resets, so the TOD thing isn’t as much of a problem.
3. Zero/Dante/Vergil
ZMC seems to be falling out of favor as the #1 Zero team. The biggest problem is that it only has one really good neutral assist, and can struggle against zoning teams. Also, Dante/Vergil is a TOD machine, but the neutral is only o.k. (I still don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be). I’m convinced that Vergil is the best anchor in the game, and he absolutely shuts down most characters once he gets going; however, his limited incoming options and low health means he can be killed without a chance to get started.
Zero/Doom/Strider has a damn near perfect neutral game and is the only zero team with no real exploitable weaknesses. It’s dominant on the floor and in the air. However, its main problem is that it doesn’t have the ability to convert the way most good Zero teams do. Furthermore, the speed at which the assists you have come out means you have to operate the offense mostly from the outside before working your way in. As a whole, it’s a team that benefits someone who is 100% willing to gay it out.
Agreed. To me, there are two shells that are obviously stronger than others for Zero, Zero/Doom and Zero/Dante. Zero/Doom, especially with Doom on missiles, very much favors defensive play, using missiles to control the vertical while Hadangeki, low buster cancels, and buster itself controls the horizontal. Frustrated opponents tend to leave themselves open to Zero’s great anti-airs and pokes, all of which convert into death.
Dante shells tend to favor much more aggressive, mixup oriented play due to Jam Session being ridiculous. I think its down to the individual player as to which shell they should go with, based on how they want to play the Maverick Hunter. Strider is probably the optimal anchor, since he goes so nicely with Doom and Dante, but arguments can be made for Vergil, Ammy, or several other characters. Vergil’s point game as an anchor is a slight edge over Strider’s, but imo Vajra and air mobility on incoming outweigh that.
I was leaning towards picking up Zero/Dante/Strider after NEC for certain matchups, but I’m not sure yet.
zero/vergil/strider is going to be the best zero team in the future. All other teams listed besides zero may cry you have to make an honest come back if you lose zero and marvel isnt an honest game lol.
Vergil/Strider pairing is really dumb too. You get stuck in infinite lock down with that pair.
