I do admit, those are cool.
I did some price-counting at work, and for most of the armies I play, the 40k Battleforces are extremely good deals. The Battle for Macragge starter, however, is a bit of a dud.
The reverse, however, is true in Fantasy. Most of the battalion boxes are garbage, and the Battle for Skull Pass is a tremendous deal.
Yeah i bought a chaos battleforce set and it came with pretty much a 1000 points worth of guys… actually i forget if its 1000 or 600…
either way i wish i had time to paint those guys.
rolls for thread’s We’ll Be Back roll
success!
ok i got the tyranid battle force box and now my model count is now
3 Warriors
8 Hormagaunts
18 Termagaunts
20 Genestealers
1 Carnifex
7 Rippers
now what can i do to make an army that doesn’t suck
tips on the carnifex config would be nice too since once those claws are glued on, they stay on.
Please tell me you got the new Carniflex and not the old old carniflex miniature… the old one just looked wierd as hell.
btw my kharn the betrayer is a pain in the ass to paint i had no that the metal minis would be this slippery.
its the new fex
it comes with different assorted limbs and heads too
i seen pics of the old 'nids and they just looks fucked up
new 'nids > old 'nids
http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/tyranids/extras/default.htm
this designer stuff is quite fun to read. some of the old models were just ugly in an awful way. the gaudy paint jobs didn’t help much either
Librarium-Online is another good Warhammer/Warhammer 40k site
http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/
I’ve been a member since 2003, although I don’t even play Warhammer anymore.
can someone help me out here?
i was looking over my new tyranid codex and when picking out some weapons there’s two number values for points
example: “Some Kinda Gun = 10/15 points”
why two numbers? did i miss something?
EDIT: Oops my goof. Its differing based on whether or not the 'nid in question has Toxin Sacs.
Gotta read more closely
Eheh… well the thing about codex’s is you gotta read some other special detail pages which the codex usually instructs you to also borrow values from. such as how much extra steps a unit could make under certain battle gear conditions.
Zazz: Personally I’d recommend modelling everything using rare earth magnets to make modular weapon configurations. It’s something I do with any force that has a lot of weapon options, like SMs and such. I’ll even end up doing it for my Aspect Warrior exarchs if I ever bother to finish my Eldar.
where would i get such magnets and what’s the price point on that?
still glueing my tyranids together
gotta work through 4 more hormagaunts and my termas
but i got plenty of termas from the macragge set so i’ll just convert 4 of them to hormagaunts by sticking on my extra genestealer scything talons
and i don’t like dealing with the arm connectors for some guns so i just glued on the extra carnifex deathspitters onto my warriors and now i got a warrior who’s a lefty (replaced the odd arm out with rending claws)
Zazz, if you read carefully, you’ll note that the higher value in the two points listing is if you’ve taken the toxin sacs biomorph (+1 strength).
For Christmas/Wedding present someone got me the new nid battleforce. I’ve practically got a whole swarm now…
I like a lot of the tyranid range. Carnifex tier: 4th > 2nd > 3rd.
The 3rd edition Carnifex just looked like someone’s half-retarded cousin who comes out to play kickball with the guys, then everyone’s all “Ah crap, it’s Billy…” and leaves.
Been painting up more of my Guardsmen, finally working on the command squad. I really like how it’s turning out, as I’m doing urban camo and the colors are really muted and drab and then you hit something like a bright red sash or brass-colored mechanical part and it’s pretty striking. I dig.
here’s my current Tyranid army list (going for 750 since my local store sometimes has 2v2 1500 pt games)

You don’t need terribly big ones, but try to use the biggest disc that will fit on the part, that will make strong bonds. For a carnifex, some 1/4" by 1/16" discs will work very well, or even 1/8" by 1/16" or by 1/32" will work, but I recommend those for smaller figures. For gaunts, use the 1/16" by 1/32".
played my first real 40k game today:
750pts vs Space Wolves
i got owned. oh well i got a zoanthrope today so hopefully his mind bullets* will help out next time
*that’s telekinesis, kyle
I happened to get owned by Space Wolves just last night, myself.
Frank and I’s 3000 points of combined Tau could not stop their Land Raider Crusader, and we paid for it by having it unload 14 Blood Claws (4 attacks on the charge) and his Wolf Lord (7 attacks) into our faces by the top of turn 2. It pretty much went downhill from there.
My idea of Tau awesomeness is broadside mayhem with the targeting guys whom i cant remember the name of right now
dont need no Kroot
Kroot are some of the dumbest looking models I’ve ever seen. They make me think of fishsticks.
The unit with the targeting feature = Pathfinders.
i like those guys but i really cant handle the fact they are in lil number squads and are obviously weak as shit… sure they can see longer distances but most of the units they engage will just shoot the shit out of them…
i personally think Kroot = Ghetto tau…
its like the Tau pay Kroot some special crack to get them to run up to fools apeshit…
