Not giving style points for how they are killed, but rather I am saying that it’s easier to kill zombies with guns than with a rock or a pharmacy store shelf.
I’ll give you the fact that you have to make hard decisions in a zombie apocalyptic world, but the environment they are living in now is different from last season’s. If Shane had made a hard decision similar to this (kill zombie threat while others are indecisive) in a zombie infested city, it would have made more sense and made him less of a child-like bully he’s become in the second season. I agree that if you’re in a fucked up world like that, you gotta change how you weigh morals with surviving. However, the world (i.e. Hershel’s farm) isn’t the same world as a zombie infested city, making Shane’s actions reckless and unwarrented.
The greater zombie threat is still there, though. I’d be spazzing out like Shane too if everyone around me got complacent after finding an apparent oasis in a desert. They are far from out of the woods.
I know this was awhile ago, but did anyone else roll their eyes when Andrea suddenly went from “Useless Bitch” to “Headshot Monstrosity”? I thought it was some silly shit, but when I voiced that to my friends (who watch the show with me) they told me I was being too critical. Maybe I missed something, but I could have sworn she was ass at aiming, and then suddenly she wasn’t.
I can suspend my disbelief to accept zombie apocalypse, but not Insta-levelling-up your Pistol skill
In the comic she was a natural with guns, especially rifles although she never shot before in her life. It happens in real life as well… I’ve seen people who are really adept at shooting and become amazingly good in a short amount of time, sometimes even better than people who have been shooting for most of their lives.
My sister is a good example; I took her to the range for the first time last week and she did very well for someone who’s never touched a gun and managed a pretty decent group from 15 yards out.
Kinda surprised everyones gettin so down on Rick. I like Shane as a character, but I understand why Rick acts like he does. Whether its practical or not, he has to believe there is some kind of life for Carl beyond simple survival instincts.
people that are Pro-Shane Anti-Rick are the same people that think Dexter/Walter White are badasses (not pathetic cunts) and are mad that Namond didn’t man up and sell that package.
I’m Pro-Shane Pro-Rick. they both have their ideas on how to survive and they’re trying their best to follow through. Shane is nuts, but he thugged out last 20 of last episode. Rick is a beast as an authority figure, and that’s godlike in itself.
The amount of balls it takes to keep that many people from freaking the fuck out during a zombie apocalypse is incredible. Rick has ALL of the balls. And a couple of the brains too.
The redneck has twice the balls of Rick, and 4x the damage resistance. He is weak to horses, though.
No way, Namond didn’t have to sell that package. The streets of baltimore are something you can get away from. Can’t get away from the entire world being full of zombies
Walter White is a horrible person and Shane is a badass in the story because everyone else is being a huge pussy.
Thing is that was Rick doing the yelling in the real story. I haven’t read it in awhile but I’m pretty sure Rick gave a speech how they aren’t alive. That’s why it’s weird to keep Shane alive for this long. He is just taking Ricks juice at this point.
The other funny thing is that by this time in the comic, if like 12 walkers were just shambling at them in short little waves two people could just take them out by themselves without guns.
I’ve learned that in life it takes much more character to make peace than make war. Rick and Shane are both highly trained alpha-males who are more than capable of taking care of themselves and taking out anything that stands againsts them or their beliefs. The only difference is that Rick chooses to retain his humanity and respect for other people even in the midst of this apocalyptic hell. That takes real character.
To the modern man, being cutthroat and brutish is exciting, because it hearkens back to an era where we could exercise our visceral nature and show true dominance. We live in a world of political correctness, and over time we’ve harbored a lot of resentment that direct confrontations come with legal and financial risk. This is why a lot of guys find Shane’s antics cool or entertaining, he goes against the grain of society’s red tape and “gets shit done.”
Thing is, Rick is living in a time where the Merles and Shanes can truly be the animals that they want, with no restraint or real conscience. Rick is the one really doing the manly thing in this era of unmitigated violence and suffering. All of Shane’s actions have been not based around the group, but based around Shane and his need for glorification. Otis died not out of pure necessity, but Shane’s need to make power plays. Which is the same “might makes right” mentality which almost got Rick sniped and Lori raped. He disguises his selfishness with bullshit about the “needs of the group.” Rick has only cared about doing the best for the group and maintaining morale, rather than just being “right.”
In the end, people just want to be entertained and this is a tv show so…
This is in no way accurate.
You base that off the bias that making peace when war is needed is somehow the moral(read personal bias) imperative.
Rick is not making the tough choice’s he is on his knee’s begging an old man in a world of limited resource’s and constant danger.
Otis died because a choice had to be made and more then one life was on the line if you want to place value of survival of the whole,Otis is of much less value to every one around the group including Hershal and company then Shane.
Morale need take backseat to survival and were it truly a power play Shane could easily end every other male in the group with ease and take what he wanted by force.
The only reason they lived long enough for Rick to reach them is due to the strength of Shane.
What is best for the group is eliminating potential threats and ensuring there is somewhere they can try and rebuild.
Rick saw fit to beg a powerless old man on hand and knee because he crippled himself with the belief there is no other option.
Shane would take the path of least resistance and seize control like every great leader in history.
