The Vortex Thread

it really depends on the matchup first, and then after you consider the matchup, then you consider whether they have meter if meter matters, and after that, use the safest option first (according to matchup and meter) and see how they react. most of the time what i do is start off with safejumps first, usually with DF palm, and see how things go from there. if they reversal out then i’ll continue to use them until they block, punishing with BnB unless it’s a teleport, in which case i walk up-> sweep those. against guile/ken/sagat i usually try a really far back DF dive kick (meaning hitting almost as a crossup) or a cross tatsu to bait out their reversals, because the dive kick almost always stuffs their reversal DPs and the cross tatsu can be timed to force reversal DP’s to whiff, although technically you can safejump sagat if you time it right. lots of blocking vs my DF’s is usually is a sign i can get away with a DF throw

all in all i think its best to learn a step by step process against each character though

You can take a step back before it and it hits on the front side if they get used to blocking it. But the crossup is better 90% of the time since it doesnt look like one.

Is this Rufus MU specific only?

Okay I got bored one day and made this. Don’t judge me.

I based it off of a post in here and I forgot his name but props go to him. However, most of the rogs I’ve played I’ve knocked them down and kept doing df palm and they kept head butting or ex dashing. and it started all over again.

When I do the exploding heart technique vs a Ryu who reversal LP srks, the mk demonflip divekick beats his reversal attempt but he bounces in the air in such a way that the st.hp or cr.hp followup whiffs. I’ve watched loltima’s video where he does it easily and tried to replicate it but unsuccessfully. I know that Ryu’s HP srk was tweaked in Super but the LP is still the same and it should still be possible to beat a LP srk clean AND combo into the bnb afterwards right?

I also found that after throw, dash dash MK df, dive kick, Ryui’s EX DP will beat us out, though it hits funny so the damage isn’t terrible, but it’s still something to be aware of.

Good threat, thx.

new setup for you guys:

Tokido lands the demon flip throw in the corner, then he does what i THINK is a taunt (could even be a kara-taunt with HK) cancelled into the demon flip kick. It looks like it crosses up. Anyone wanna test this?

^what? pretty sure he just did DF kick, which can cross up.

It was just a dash up :stuck_out_tongue:

this was in vanilla. If the opponent is blocking in the left corner no matter how close you are not even a HK demon flip dive kick will cross up. In the left corner it will, check the tokido vids and you’ll see that in the right corner is where most of his x-up dive kicks are. As well if you watch the vid the opponent can just walk forward out of that setup in the left corner if you are to slow on the setup, dangerous if they know whats up and decide to punish.

Same with jHK. Set the dummy to walking back and try to land a point blank jump forward HK in the left corner…you’ll always just land in front after a normal block.

I’m not positive but I think after a forward throw, dash, dash, EX Demon Flip Dive Kick is safe from all of Ryu’s SRK’s. He cannot delay his DP to trade with you either. I’ll test this again when I get home tomorrow.

forward throw, dash, dash, mk DF dive is sufficient too.

No, it actually isn’t. Ryu’s DP beats exploding heart technique.

???

yes shotos can stuff exploding heart.

Ryu can DP exploding heart, but if you delay the dive kick as much as possible he only gets a trade if he uses MP DP.

I remember even trying fwd throw, dash, dash, empty jump and Ryu still reversal DP’d successfully. ridic!!

Alright, so doing the Exploding Heart Technique against Ryu with EX Demon Flip instead of MK Demon Flip leaves you safe from all reversal DP’s. The only way I could beat it out was staying crouched and DP’ing late, and I couldn’t manage to do this every time so it’s probably hard to time it right. I don’t know if it’s useful enough to warrant using a bar, but if they like using reversal DP’s at least you know you’re safe.
