The Vortex Thread

i think i just hot tub time machined back to last march

Great thread. Sticky this shit

i lul’ed so hard haha… diarrhea hahahahaha

Wait sorry quick question:

 1. When you whiff the palm, is that during a safe jump or when there already up?
 2. Do you guys ever whift demon flips to gain meter?

Fuckers, now can’t get out of my head, and I’m not even lucky enough to find scat hot and get a free wank out of it _;

 1. To safe jump and mix up with cr.lk or throw etc. You may choose not to whiff palm and try to make them block it as they get up and do a string or tick throw from there.

 2. During fireball exchanges. Jump back lk.tatsu works as well.

Hey. I saw that a lot of the recent posts on this thread were about people “getting out of the vortex”. The most note-able method being discussed is the every so famous dragon punch. I got my PC copy of street fighter last night and this is my first vid, but it shows you three DP safe and fairly mix-uppy wake up attack options in succession to use against DP chars. After the first knock down all attacks should in theory be safe.

The first safe option is a whiffed cross up palm into meaty jab bait, the second is a spaced “safe” dive kick, the third is a cross up tatsu that is dp safe. These three mix ups also happen to be enough to kill a Sagat so do what you will with that lol. Hope this helps a little. You may also choose to end combos with sweeps for the un-techable knockdown. PS: My recording software records my media player too so you hear what I am listening to. I am so embarrassed :frowning:

Quick question: Which strength should I use when I wanna do a cross-up tatsu?

HK. The damage changes between variations. Also the LK has different timing. Overall the HK works the best.

Okay thanks. One more question though: could someone give me some safe jump options for Akuma?

Cool thread (sorry again for my frequent long absences from the forum, I’m still busy with grad school crap). I think another thing that needs to be mentioned is the need to learn the link from s.LP to c.HK. Yes, it’s a 1-frame link, but it’s really not that hard to get the timing down, and it’s one of the best ways to reset the vortex on front-jumpins against characters that you can’t combo to sweep from BnB on.

Also, naked dive kick is not as bad as people are making it out to be. You’re judging its frame properties based on using it on a standing dummy in training mode. In practice, a character standing up from a non-tech knockdown against a meaty dive kick will have his hitbox lowered for a second, causing the dive to hit later, giving it significantly more frame advantage than what you see on a standing dummy.

Plus, the timing of the naked dive kick is much more similar to the timing for a crossup tatsu. Basic jump-in hits faster, making it less ambiguous. It’s not enough that anybody could reliably distinguish on reaction, but it affects the mixup on a subconscious level. If you ever notice your opponent is guessing right more often than he should, you might want to consider that.

On another note, I’ve noticed in recent vids, some of the Japanese players are now using s.HK to HK demon flip off of front throw, rather than the dash setups.

Can you guys help me with the air FB cross-up after Demon Throw?
I cant figure out what are the inputs for the air hado are. I throw > dash 1 time forward > ??? Is it a tiger knee-motion or what?

Yeah, dash once, tiger knee motion jab fireball

:qcf: :uf: :r:+:lp:

So I’m trying to get down tatsu>sweep. Is there any kind of timing clue(visual/input/whatever) I can use to better grasp the timing? Cross up HK Tatsu>sweep is cake but I need to be able to get it off in other situations.

Is this character specific? Because whenever I record Akuma to do that, I can just block normally (non-crossup) on my wakeup, it feels like I have to be a tiny bit closer to make it crossup (I can do it after a DF palm knockdown, can get in a position to make the fireball crossup). Could it because I’m releasing the fireball a bit late? (I’m using the tiger knee method)

You can’t do it on all characters (for example you can’t tatsu>sweep ryu and ken).

As for visual cues, just plink the sweep when you see akuma touch the ground.

It’s really only hard vs fuerte and honda (and sagat in some ways), easiest to do on Dhalsim

I did some research so I’m aware that it doesn’t work everyone. I was trying it on Sagat mainly. And I’m playing on pad so it’s a pain to plink correctly.

sweep doesnt work on all chars, and slightly different timing for different characters to boot

plinking on the dpad is very possible and a must if you’re using akuma.just press hk and mk together and it should work.
