The Virtua Fighter 5:R thread... It's in Japanese arcades!

How can this be a bad thing?

“Inaccessible Newer Version” or INV in short, is the cancer of console FG communities.
Tekken was the only game I used to play hardcore, but the year and a half between the arcade 5DR and the PS3 5DR were enough to kill my local Tekken scene for good and almost everyone went on with their lives.
The only ones who are still active are the people who started playing different fighting games.
We moved on to a different game every time Guilty Gear got an INV, then went back to it when it was out for console.
The thing is that we continued to improve our play and went back to GG as a better, more experienced players than when we left.

So I’m with FallingEdge on this one. Every FG out there had an INV at some point (AH players are having one right now just to remind you). When your favorite game got an INV, find an alternative fighting game you can love as well and improve your general skills by playing it until the time comes to get back to the favorite game again, and you’ll be better at it as well so it’s a win-win.

I say ha

The “crush” properties are no longer fixed with simple HML elements (e.g. low beats high, that sort of thing), now it’s move vs move. It’s deeper, sure, but not everyone wants it that complicated.

Well, I’m not complaining since I play both games. I’m not surprised either, seeing as Harada (Tekken’s producer) really likes VF.

We know that the Tekken team likes VF they had to license the customization and rank feature directly from Sega that they were so impressed by it.

Too bad Sega wasn’t impressed by Tekken’s success on consoles. :arazz:

Well it’s too late for Sega to beat Namco to the punch on consoles any ways. It would have basically been VF5R would have sold decent (and then had some obligatory arcade update right after) and Tekken 6 would have killed it. Now Tekken 6 is just going to kill in sales and VF5R being released will basically be a moot point unless they load that thing with extraneous features that will lure casuals to it. Cuz casuals are going to see the flashy graphics and physics and 69 Tekken characters and say “LOL this VF game has like 15 characters”.

I kinda understand Sega sticking to the arcade market. Even Namco knows they make a lot of their money on the arcade sales and console sales drive some of the arcade money away. That’s why they drew out Tekken 6 so long at the arcades before making the console port. KOFXII’s console port probably isn’t helping KOFXII in the arcades either. Well on top of the fact that hardcore players prefer 2002 Unlimited it seems.

It would be nice if Sega released VF5R as DLC

That way, they don’t have to spend money to mass produce DVDs, game cases, manuals, etc.

Both VF and Tekken are the shit. Everyone shut up. But with minimal support from Sega it’s tough to be a hardcore VF fan/player alone. I like knowing when I get T6 on console there’s going to be 7000 tournaments going on and if I travel, I’ll be playing the same version in that country I’ve been playing back at home.

Sega pises me off.

Yeah, but what I’m getting at is what I’ve been saying about how both games seem to run closer to each other than ever before. When I looked at Nina’s movelist with the properties, adv and disadv, and speeds, it looked so much like a VF movelist. Now don’t get me wrong, they’re both two totally different games, but they run along more along the same lines now, as counterparts.

Keep in mind, that this is just my own observation, and only experience on the VF side.

Things like this just reinforce my observations is all.

Some VF’ers had been complaining that VF is getting too much like Tekken, even moreso with R. And now you’re telling me the same thing has been said about 6BR when it comes to VF.

Very True. But I think VF5R has a chance to sell if they have a good online system, some extra features, popularity, and nice display and advertising.

ps3 slim and 360 elite dropped prices so more ppl will go next-gen. Now is the time to get their money and be the “anti-tekken” game. VF5R is not “anti-tekken” but alot will view it as such.

The game is good itself and the gameplay is the best I ever seen. The gameplay is why I loved this game over tekken. Tekken is more launched based then VF for example. With some promotion, this game could be big.

Blazblue only has 12 characters and it is pretty popular despite the character size.

Well anyways T6:BR comes soon. Can’t wait.

That’s cuz they’re prepping for Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter, due to be announced this year.

Namco says yes. Sega says no. Who will be the winner?

no streets of rage, no console VF no shenmue, no new shinobi.

its like sega really hates me.

At least they took in clover studios.

Argh! stop teasing me with crossover gaming greatness!

Brad vs Bruce!
Jean vs Jin!
Sarah vs Nina!
Akira vs Paul!
Jeffrey vs Marduk!
Wolf vs King!
Eleen vs Xiaoyu!
Jacky vs Law!
Shun Di vs Lei!
Lei-Fei vs Feng!
Taka vs Ganryu!

Uhm…

Dural vs Mokujin…

VF vs Tekken would be huge I don’t care what anyone says. As far as gameplay, I’m sure there would be a good compromise. Both teams are talented and creative enough to figure it out. Besides like everyone’s saying, Tekken and VF are more or less merging gameplay wise already.

If Sega turns it down, then they’re confirmed effin retards. Tekken sells 3+ million each time out. How could you turn an opportunity like that down? And the communities will merge.

HUUUUUUDDDGGGEEEEEE

Don’t even talk to me about VF vs. Tekken. Choosing between VF’s button scheme and Tekken’s button scheme would be a nightmare in of itself. Tekken would arpe VF any ways.

Well…Blazblue is a unique series so game reviewers and casuals in general are more lenient and forgiving for a series that is completely new. The story driven single player mode I’m sure helped the game appeal to casual players as well and seeing how anime is still big in the US I’m sure the look of the game alone drew a lot of animecon heads. The next game is going to have to step it up on the character and feature roster though…that’s for sure.

I just don’t see people buying VF5R with only 2 new characters and the same emphasis on a simple on the outside but very difficult on the inside control scheme. They already saw VF5 and went “ok cool done that” and VF5R as a console release to Americans would be not much more than a mockery unless they sold it for like 40 bucks. You also know Sega isn’t going to spend the time to advertise VF again hardcore worldwide for consoles. Tekken 6 is going to come out and they’re going to sit on the couch not laying a finger. After T6’s release the effort won’t be worth it.

Americans as a whole aren’t going to see the gameplay in VF5R as better than T6. I do because I grew up on VF in the arcades and on the Saturn before I even touched Tekken and even as a 10 year old kid I could just tell VF had a more fluid and interesting gameplay system. I liked Tekken for the flashiness and characters but deep down inside I just knew VF was better as a series. VF3 was kind of a dud but VF4 brought back the VF I remembered and made me realize that it was the true king of 3d fighters.

I guess VF5R isn’t coming out on consoles :frowning: I’m starting to give up hope. I thought it was gonna be a foregone conclusion that it would hit America. Well, I guess I can wait until (hopefully) VF6 or VF5FT drops. I’m gonna be all over T6. I’m counting the days.

My hope has now shifted from 5R to Tekken vs VF. There’s too much rumbling going around about it. Man that shit would be off the chain.

I see it a bit differently…

Sarah vs Hwoarang
Akira vs Kazuya
Lau vs Heihachi
Jeffrey vs Jack-6
Jacky vs Paul
Pai vs Ling
Goh vs Bryan
Aoi vs Asuka
Kage vs Yoshimitsu (or Raven)
Brad vs Steve
El Blaze vs Marduk
Vanessa vs Christie
Taka vs Ganryu
Jean vs Jin
Wolf vs King
Lei-Fei vs Feng Wei
Shun Di vs Lei Wu Long (or Wang Jinrei)

Which leaves Eileen and Lion. Not sure who would be an intruiging matchup for them.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

Look at that… that would be 38 characters with matches for Eileen and Lion. What a great start that would be.

I see VF5R is the Final Tuned of VF5. Sega just released it to keep arcade fans interested and probably aren’t looking to take it to consoles to compete with the fighting game renaissance where it will just get lost in the struggle. Japan’s console market is pretty lackluster compared to the US any ways and they know their fighter is a second rate fighter in America. It’s sad but people will buy up DOA5 in the US before they look at another VF game. Especially a VF game that isn’t even a true sequel. US will call BS on the game quickly.

Yeah, but what game engine will it use? I think it would be too much work to have the option to switch between Tekken and VF style in one game, like they did with Fighter’s Megamix between Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers.

Hell they could even add the FV’ers to increase the number of Sega’s cast to almost equal all 40 plus tekkenite’s… almost.

PS. I know hypothetical game wishing is a waste of time… although so is wishing for a VF5R port, so what else are we gonnas do while we wait for T6BR?

Me. Because I have the inside track!
