Tekken’s actually number 1 throughout Asia (I should know. I’m here.)
VF2 used to be number 1… when Sega wasn’t so retarded about their distribution rules. I remember seeing a big-ass VF2 machine at some department store in the Philippines like 10 years ago or so, and kids and their dads were playing while the moms were shopping.
What? Virtua Fighter 4 was the #1 arcade game in Japan and South Korea for years. The only game that beat VF4 in Japan was Gundam. You don’t know anything.
VF5 is still a top 10 fighting game in Japan, which is certainly good, but it’s not as dominant as VF4 was.
I don’t think we should Write off VF as a franchise just yet. As VirtuaFighterFour said, VF5R is still kicking in the top ten in Japan, which isn’t too bad.
I wasn’t disputing VF4’s standing. I just remembered the time when Sega’s distribution was a lot less bureaucratic. Even during VF4’s era it was starting to become a bit iffy. Let’s put it this way: during VF4, I was living in the UK, and when I went to Sega’s arcade (Trocadero in London IIRC), I didn’t see VF4…
I saw… Tekken.
(and I was there a some years prior - 1999 IIRC, and Trocadero had 2-3 VF3 machines)
Isn’t that supposed to happen in like 20 years? I’ll try to make enough money in 10 years or so to move to Cali and then by the time VF8 comes out I’ll be in Japan!
sega are fuckin nitwits. just release the game on ps3 and xbox. tons of fucking garbage sonic games get released for those systems, and yet they can not put this game on a home console?
Why did you start this up again? After people were finally starting to get the point that Sega dropkicks kittens? That’s all this thread is. Constant ups and downs of hopes and dreams. Repeat.
No offense, but you all will never get your grubby little weabo paws on VF5R so just play Tekken 6 like everyone else and shut the fuck up. Stop trying to be different when you no longer have anything to differentiate yourselves with anymore. This isn’t 1994, with VF2 hotness, or 2001, with VF4 and Serena Williams’ ass Vanessa Lewis. This is now, 2009, and you all are still loyal dogs to the hand that has fed you in the past and now left you in a campus dormroom with 1 pack of ramen noodles left. Sega’s final transformation is almost complete. The world will never be the same again…
Come. Play Tekken again like you used to before you got beasted by that one guy who only knew 10 strings and chain grabs. Customize Law to look like Jacky. It is all that can be done in this life now.
Do you even like VF? Are you like the Tekken police?
Some people think that the Tekken series, including 6BR, is marginally inferior to the VF series, including VF5 (and not just VF5R). Just because VF5R isn’t coming to consoles doesn’t mean that people must switch over to T6BR.
Me too but I just can’t play a game when I know there is a newer, better version of it out there. I’m gonna play T6 but would gladly jump back to VF if an updated version is released for consoles.
I love VF. And even if there is a part of me that likes it slightly more than Tek, so be it. But you’ll never truly know though.
I’m a serious Tek player now. Would’ve been anyway, probably even if VF5R was released. But it’s not. And I’m certainly not going to stand on the edge of the cliff and turn to stone like the woman who waited for her husband to return from war. Time goes on.
I’ll still be around in 2016 when Sega releases VF5R in a “classics collection” though. Maybe we can play then. :wgrin:
I can not imagine a veteran vf player suddenly jumping straight to T6. Games are so different fundamentally, although; vf has been a tad bit stringy since 4.
The amusing thing is, in the arcades in Asia, some Tekken players are whining that BR is too much like VF. “Too much emphasis on SS/SW! Not enough back dash cancels! Too many move-specific properties” and all that. The better players have adapted though, hence the heavy use of SS/SW/adjusted bd-cancels in the Korean Tekken Crash matches.
I play both games, believe me, neither game is inferior/superior, just different. You don’t have to “quit” or “betray” VF to play Tekken. That’s silly high-school stuff (OMG! You’re not my friend anymore! You spoke to my most hated rival! You betrayed me!!!)
One game could be your serious game, the other could be your casual choice. No biggie.
