The VF5 Thread: The future IS now. RIGHT NOW

Fuck this game

OF stance is lookin hawt. And they finally let you switch stances during the countdown. About damn time.

here’s hoping theres more than 3 buttons, one of which blocks :frowning:

VF3 was the Tekken 4 of the series and it had more than 3 buttons, btw… And there’s already a block button; I dunno wtf you’re talking about…

Yeah VF has always had a block button. And I wouldn’t call VF3 the T4 of the series, it was very popular, and well not looked down upon. It also wasn’t a one character fest.

http://youtube.com/profile?user=VF5Akira <- this guy updates with new vids every day

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=ogikage <- not as many vids, but this guy also has tourny videos from VF4, FT, Evo, 3, and even 2 and 2.1

^ nice find!

YES!! Now I pretty much perfected the crouch-dash thing. I can’t believe how simple it acutally is (just do a QCFx2 and bwalah! TFT combos are now in your grasp!). Only problem is that I have trouble landing Akira’s double palm move at the end of a launcher. I honestly can’t do the knee (seriously, that move is pure bullshit), but that’s somewhat okay considering Akira has 2 other good launchers (that shoulder launcher and the youhou launcher). Why is this guy considered mid tier in VF4:FT and VF5 again? Every time I see him, some kind of crazy ass rushdown occurs in Akira’s favor.

He’s linear, if you can break forward and down forward consistently his throw game goes to crap, his low game is kind of crappy but then again that’s not really his forte anyway. Also I think his wake up kicks suck or something like that, don’t remember.

Otherwise, yes Akira is a scary rush down machine. But so are other characters.

How is Lei Fei? VFDC info on him is still pretty scarse. I heard that he was absolute bottom in FT and that he was slightly better in VF5 but that’s the extent of what I know. I saw some videos of Heruru destroying but that’s to be expected. He didn’t seem to have a big following in the last few tournaments either.

Well according to a Tougeki magazine, VF5 character placement is:

S: Shun, Pai
A: Vanessa, Eileen, Kage, Lei Fei
B: Brad, Wolf, Lau, Jacky
C: Akira, Goh
D: Lion, Sarah, Aoi
E: Jeffry, El Blaze

But take it with a grain of salt cause I’m pretty sure this might be outdated. But either way, Lei is pretty high. Most people in NA don’t play Lei so information about him is rather limited. We do have dedicated Lei player here in SoCal but I’ve yet to play his Lei cause he still pwns my n00b Sarah with his Jacky/Jeffry.

Still it’s rather comforting to know the winner of Otenami Haiken 5 was using low ranked Lion versus top ranked Kage and won. Got to love VF.

That fucking sucks…WHY AM2…just…WHY?!

I am going to claim some hapless soul at that goddamn AM2 building.

man, I love using Lion, why is he always ranked so damn low… ;_;

Im getting my ps3 in about two weeks and im tryin to get back into VF so we can play some games when it comes out

That’s what I love about VF. When you have things like:

  • A low tier character making it to the finals
  • One of the best players using a mid-low character
  • A mid character having a reputation for being a monster
  • A bottom tier character winning EVO
  • A mid character pulling an OCV at SBO in the finals
  • Tons of top players having completely unique playstyles that are their own

It just makes the game seem a whole lot more fun and a lot more reassuring when it comes time to choose a character.

too bad the joysticks that are coming out don’t have the optional purple or pink and green buttons. can’t wait for this game.

pai is a bitch.

NCSX is shipping preorders for VF5 on Monday. Pretty sure this only applies to people who have already pre-ordered, best shit ever.

from VFDC:
“One of the biggest shocks to fans regarding this home port is the lack of any tutorial or challenge training. These highly regarded features from the previous PS2 versions will be missed.”

seems like the past is now. right now.
