The VF5 Thread: The future IS now. RIGHT NOW

Thanks!

Another question. How many frames do you have to input your P+K+G for exact recovery? And how many frames on recovering from a beatdown attack?

for the first question just before you hit the ground. I don’t think there’s really any frame for landing you just do it. As for the second ? no clue. I don’t really care for frame data too much.

That’s the main reason why many fighting games fail or arent even brought to the US. Hearing about certain games is hard enough (try to find an average American gamer who has heard of Melty Blood before) but then having people to play against? While its cool if maybe one other person you know plays…itll get boring if youre only playing against the same one person or the computer only. And even if the people on here that post in the Melty Blood thread would all buy the game, the casual gamer, which makes up most of the sales for games, wouldn’t just buy it out of nowhere.

So having nobody to play against in the states is a good reason to not play a game anymore. And sadly, thats what a major part of why fighting games and arcades are way bigger in other countries with a larger population density.

Apparently VF5 for PS3 is now going to be in 1080p, article is at IGN.

Wow, AM2 has flipflopped a lot with the port news for the game.

  • First, PS3 exclusive, but now it’s multiplatform in Western countries
  • Second, game would only be in 720p like the arcade version, but now it’s in True HD 1080p

lol

The power of moneyhats. Makes games magically appear on the X360 and jump resolutions from 720p to 1080p.

Regarding HeartNana’s point: It’s always the hardest move to make a scene something from nothing. You have to go from ‘eh why bother to learn this game, no one else plays it’ to ‘fuck it, I’m going to show people what’s up and make them want to play this game’. You have to really enjoy the game to get to that point; people who are playing for competition (who are a significant part of the playerbase, especially at tournaments) are happy playing 3S or MvC2 or whatever gets burn in their area.

And in addition, even if you do get people to play. If you guys want to actually be good enough to compete with regular players if you somehow meet up, one of you guys (usually the guy who wins the most) has to take the initiative to get better and learn higher level strats and all that jazz. Its a lot harder when one person in a small group is forced to learn new ways of playing and new tricks and that sort of thing to get better, and its a LOT of work as opposed to just seeing a buncha new things by going to the arcade or having a large group of friends who plays. For that, its easiest to just get into MvC2 or 3S or that sort of thing.

That makes more sense…

I don’t know…

http://www.vgcharts.org/usatotals.php

Some of the games are consistent with the lists given by omni and also the Magic Box, and some are completely different.

Maybe vgcharts is more accurate for newer games but I have no idea.
Some of the older games just don’t seem right at all…

There’s no way that SF2 Turbo for the SNES only did 315k…

VGcharts isn’t totally accurate, iirc they’re an indie site that tries to give data. So while you can a good idea of sales numbers, it’s not 100%.

That’s funny because those screens ARE FROM THE PS3 VERSION.

Compare the first shot on IGN to the first shot from the “xbox version”.

i guess you look for what you want to see, it’s funny cause i realized taht today to when ign published it. who knows not until we see an actual xbox screen i will keep my feet in my mouth.

VF5 Quest mode details:

I like how you get to choose which cabinet you go to, giving it more a rpg-ish feel. Wasn’t too sure about all the arcades being open from the begining but this more than makes up for it.

This game is gonna beast so much it’s not even funny.

Exact recovery like from a throw without taking damage? To recover from TRable throws without taking damage it is around 3~4 frames. From a slam/beatdown it’s more like 2~3. I don’t think anyone has ever gotten the exact data, which is strange now that I think about it. Also the tech from a move that spins you (like a sweep or Wolf’s screwhook) is 4~5 frames.

The tech from any normal knockdown is pretty huge so it’s not really worth discussing the numbers there.

Oh shit, that’s hawt.

The coolest shit ever is if you’d be able to customize yourself as the virtual arcade player, random j-rocker outfit for the win lmao.

I think had Sega actually exported VF5, they would have had a better chance to get more attention. Arcades nowadays in America are becoming more specialized and rare. Almost any new game now gets some measure of attention. It’s too bad most arcades around me ‘Baltimore’ aren’t competition friendly or wouldn’t get such an expensive cabinet.

Ok I just realized I had VF4 Evo after I did some spring cleaning.

Don’t ask.

Would I be completely out of the loop with VF5 hits if I spent time in tutorial mode with this game?

I’ll surely be hitting this up come February!

Nope you’d be fine with most of the VF system in 5. Sure some of the combos will have changed, but the system is mostly unchanged. I’d stay away from vanessa (I think she’s changed the most from EVO > Final Tuned > VF5.
