VF would have a dedicated scene if arcades actually carried the title.
Almost every mall arcade has Tekken. How many US arcades have Evo or Final Tuned? Exactly.
It’s partially Sega’s fault for poor distribution, and partially because VF games are on hella expensive hardware and setups.
Think about it, where would 3s be without it’s big arcade followings in California, Nevada, and elsewhere? Marvel without it’s EC and WC arcade scenes?
Marvel and Tekken got big distribution on the EC. VF did not (not sure about WC).
Arcades always breed the best, most dedicated and hardcore players, console never has and never will.
Get the game in arcades, and the following will be there.
maybe not the best, but there are enough console hardcore players outhere. that’s your only option when you and your play mates don’t live near an arcade with your specific game. (unless your playing MVC1…)
only problem with console is with meeting new players making the local scene bigger and bigger.
Yeah, it’s not even about just getting the machines for the arcades. I had a Cyberstation in a mall near me, and they got VF3 when it first hit American arcades and the crowds around it were enourmous, with people totally awe struck. Catch is everyone just watched the game demo, no one played it at all. The game was $2 a play, cause VF cabinets are so nice and oh so expensive. 5 is supposed to be even more expensive I think with the wicked monitor it’s got built in.
VF is a good example but that fits lot’s of other fighters a well.
i always thought that nowadays US and europe just need to change and develop a new kind of fighting scene that’s based on console distribution and not about arcades.
at least for games that aren’t mvc2 or 3s.
i mean, hardcore gamers tend to use the internet as they learn how to play better, so why not use the internet as a “place to meet new players at your area” as well?
if there was 1 big fighting game portal that every fighting game player would knew about like every internet user knows ‘google’, this could work.
Jesus Christ im not even a VF player and i want to play this game now. Rey Myster… Im mean El blaze looks freakin great. Gunna have to wait till console though cuz u know we have like -10% of it coming stateside.
It is just me or does the fact that El Blaze is NOT speaking spanish is bothering the crap out of me. I cant stand the fact he sounds like a 6’0 tall white guy. I even have an entrence quote for him: " Me vas a comer sus ninos!!!" lol:rock:
LOL yeah, it’s weird for me as well to hear a mexican luchador to speak such a overacted english voice, not to mention that they could’ve gave him a spanish name like “El Rayo” or “El Rafaga”
Anyway, here’s some more El Blaze’s goodness, thanks to cygnus for the links:
Hey, all future videos will be uploaded to http://hosted.filefront.com/vfdc. There are going to be new videos every day until the loketest ends at the end of this month.
Well, it’s been changed a few times already, but this is how it works in the current version. Normal (called “defensive move”) evade is up or down, and the old evade attack from it is done with P+K. This evade works mostly the same as VF4’s. An unsuccessful one is slow but can be canceled with a crouch dash, and a successful one is fast, though still waaay slower than it was in VF4. When you evade something in VF5, you mostly just get throw attempt guaranteed or medium frame advantage.
The new evade (called “offensive move”) is done with 8_2, P+K+G out of normal evade, and has 2 canned attacks you can from it with P or K. Usually one is a safe poke that gives frame advantage, and one is a punishable (P counterable at least) attack that crumples on MC or has some kind of damage reward. This evade has the same speed/animation whether you actually evade something or not, but it can’t be canceled with a crouchdash. This evade also moves further, allowing you to get to an opponent’s side/back more easily.
The side-stun stuff seems to affect the guessing game in significant ways. When you have advantage on a side turned opponent, it seems that they will not be able to evade properly, because evading simply re-aligns your character from this position (try evading from backturned in VF4). So you’d get hit if you tried to evade. So you can guard, and depending on range or how your character behaves from side-turned, throws may be very powerful here. This is only speculation so far, but it seems to open up an entirely new and powerful guessing game.
Ok now ive always wanted to get into Viruta Fighter but for some reason never did. If i wanted to start now and buy VF4:evo, would it be worth it or what?
Yes, it would be worth it, especially since the game is cheap as hell. VF5 is basically VF4 + a bunch of additional system stuff + new moves/characters.
