The VF5 Thread: The future IS now. RIGHT NOW

OH NOOES PEEPLE ARE GIVING A 3D FIGHTER PROPS!!! LONG LIVE 2D!!!1!

Anyways since this is still in the testing stage I think AM2 will overhaul the hitting sound effects but it’s no biggie. My only complaint is the music. I wish they would bring the music from VF2 in this game…or at least make another Chigago stage w/ music intact. I can still dream…

DLing the new vids

What 3D fighters do you play?

Edit: I love the music, personally.

What was the last 3d fighter you played with a ‘degree of realism’??

Last I checked, in real life you couldn’t juggle human beings in the air with punches like in Tekken and Virtua Fighter.

Last I checked swords didn’t glow and getting stabbed multiple times not kill you , or make you bleed (Soul Calibur).

Dead or Alive…lets not even go there lol.

Outside of UFC, or say Bushido Blade, what 3d fighting game do you play that exhibit a ‘degree of realism’??

What do you mean? Looks fine to me .

The fact is, this is the location test version of the game. Outside of minor gameplay tweaks, you are looking at the final game. So all of you hoping for different sound effects or music, or graphics in this case, it’s probably not going to happen.

Begin Rant
The game is very much Virtua Fighter 4-2. Has the same art style and ‘look’ as 4. Which isn’t surprisng.

Keeping the same announcer and sound effects as 4, that’s not really surprising either. 1-3 pretty much had the same sound effects.

The -Wooosh- effect, etc. may be corny but it is trademark VF and it ain’t going anywhere. So are the absolute cheesy voices. Where have you been for the last 13 years? lol.

I know I’m not alone when I say I wish they would go back to blue blue skies VF1-3 type art style. I miss the -zoom ins-…you know, when the announcer went “Fight 1” and the camera came in from the sky, or around the corner, or from the back of the fighter, etc., then focused in on the two fighters…That was sooo trademark VF. Now it just goes “Fight 1” and it’s just the two fighters. Lame.

And the music needs to go back to the corny, up-beat cheese of VF1-2-3.

Also, you can pretty much expect this one to play -very- similar to 4. Which is either a good thing or an -ok- thing from your perspective.

Finally I want to say that the graphics are just -poop in my pants- fantastic. Here’s hoping for a perfect PS3 port someday, cause the chances of you finding this in your local arcade (if you even have a local arcade), are slim and none.

end rant

Just watched the vids…

  • The music is on point. The Sarah/Shun fight, Goh/Jeff fight, El Blaze/Pai fight are what I was hoping would be in the game. Thank you AM2.

  • Goh looks sweet as hell in this one. I loved him in 4 and now I’ll love him even more.

  • El Blaze > your soul

“Start running…NOW!”

I don’t like his pants is all.

I also wanna see what you have to say in response, Sex, before I ban you for being a douche. There hasn’t been a competitive 3D fighting game yet that hasn’t had at least some of these features in it.

Here’s another new one.

This is the best clip so far imo. Kage is fucking dope.

Why the hate on the sounds? Aren’t the sounds que for move properties? Like the ‘Swooosh’ means you can’t sidestep the move. And the ‘Ka-boom’ means the move has stagger. Or something like that?

any brad vids yet?

Those Goh vids were pretty interesting, looks like he has at least a few new interesting tricks.

Cygnus, I agree with you on Jeffrey’s pants, they just dont look quite the right color and they look too stiff. I doubt it’ll get changed though.

TFT FTW

Holy shit… The way that Kage’s armor looks and moves is crazy!!! The shine is so… beautiful!

Nice find cygnus.

I’m a little surprised people here are praising the graphics. That Wolf vs Lion vid currentaly has score of 5.4/10 average rating of 15 votes on gametrailers. Some comments I read were things like the game being too slow, looking like VF4, bad voice acting. And on this thread Sexperienced talks about it lacking “realism”.

I’ve already talked about this before so I won’t repeat myself in detail, but Virtua Fighter 5 lacks the next-gen presentation that casual gamers want. Coupled with VF’s terrible dialogue/voice acting and “not as cool as Tekken” character designs and you end up with a game that has poor chances in the US (more so than previous VFs). Only overhype from the gaming media could save this game.

Who cares what they think? If VF5 sold more than DOA or Tekken combined, would that make the competitive community that much larger? Or just more scrubs to beat up? It’s not going to have online play, so you won’t even see any of these people at a gathering or tounament. So why does their opinion matter?

It’s the same for any game. Let’s say DR got announced for PS2 and all the comments are positive…“OMG Lili is so hot!”, “Tekken is awesome!”. But if you are a competitive Tekken player, why should you care? Sure, it’s nice that the game is popular, but will you see “splintercell41” at a Tekken tournament? Probably not.

How does VF5 NOT have next gen presentation? The ps2 is very much NOT capable of that at all.

Also, VF has never been a series to please casual gamers, and this one wont likely have them looking. VF is MADE for the non-casual gamer, and although VF4Evo’s tutorial mode made the game a lot easier to at least get into, AM2 takes great care into making it harder for people to get results from playing it mindlessly (whereas half of Tekken’s cast is MADE for button mashers).

Lol this part had me cracking up.

Also, for the record VF4 sold something in the range of 500k copies in the US alone. Which, for a game that hardcore, is pretty amazing. There is nothing casual about VF4. And if you think the -tutorial- mode helps, forget about it, that tutorial shit in VF4 is fucking Nazi training camp to casual ppl. Lol.

And VF is deserving of the praise it gets in mainstream press. I think if VF actually had an arcade presence here, it would have as big a tourney following as Tekken.

Okay, here is where I get confused. Is there a fighting game that looks better in motion than what VF5 is shaping out to look like?

QFT

No. Not even close.

I guess by -next Gen presentation- he means the inferior looking in every way, “Casual Hit” DOA4.

How can anyone (who’s been following VF since day one) not be impressed with VF5? One of VF’s strongest aspects is that the series never relied on gimmicks or cheap thrills to boost it’s popularity. VF attempting to gain mainstream acceptance would be like taking one step forward & two steps back. Alot of fighters which rely on the casual approach (DOA, MKD, Marvel Nem etc.) are popular for their first few weeks (or so) after release, then they’re soon forgotten, almost as if they never existed (and those gamers move onto other games). Yet, games like 3S and VF4 are still rockin hard. Even without online play.

AM2’s goal isn’t “Let’s see how many gamers we can attract,” but rather “See how far we’ve come.”

Then again, if you simply got into fighters with DOA, no wonder…

Everything else you said was spot on.

In regards to this statement, I’m not disapointed, but VF5 definately isn’t as impressive as VF2 or VF3 were back in the day.

That’s not a knock, just saying, when you saw Virtua Fighter 2 for the first time in an arcade it was just shock value. For 1995 that was just fucking too amazing.

VF3 same deal. In 1996 you basically had PS2 and Xbox calibur graphics in the model 3 games. At the time it was just overwhelming.
