The Unofficial `Official’ NCR Arcade ST tourney @Nov 20-21 Embassy Suites Milpitas

Why is that? Star-cup is not team tourney. You specify your characters order first and cannot counter pick arbitrary.
It should take the same amount of time as singles.
Unless I misunderstood what you are saying…

Playing 3/5 in ST is still faster than playing one game of SSF4. Maybe equal the set if you time out on all games in ST. I don’t see a problem really. I think he’s just unaware of the rules.

One cool idea that I’m grabbing from the Melty Blood guys is a single elim team tourney. It’s basically get 2 huge teams and each person sticks with one character, no equipment change and just run through an order of players on both sides and whoever runs out of team members loses. Something like this can be 1 dollar entry fee, and it would easily work since we’re on a supergun setup. It’s fast and it’s surprisingly really fun. Obviously this wouldn’t be something main, but an after tourney kind of deal, this sounds pretty cool to me.

Also starcup style would be single game, right?

I didn’t say explicitly, but if we can start early, even char lock/singles I want to do 3/5. So star-cup should take the same amount of time. If we’re pressed for time, we can do 2v2 star-cup too (or 2/3 char lock/singles)

Hey, the 10+ vs 10+, east vs west, young vs adult team battle that I mentioned in the 1st post is exactly this. Now I know no one reads :nono: (like battosai didn’t know there is no reg fee)

But no equipment change thing that you brought up is an issue. People are very picky about their choice of controller.

I wish we don’t need to swap sticks for each set, it will make everything go so much faster, but I don’t see this is possible unless all of you tell me you can play on sanwa sticks/buttons.

But since this is just for fun, no $ involved battle, maybe we can enforce this no controller change rule.

Yes. if we go 3 chars = 3/5, otherwise 2 chars = 2/3.

Count me in bro…but the sticks better be top notch with no input dely of button moves either

If you are following the “Will we have SF2 @ EVO 2011?” thread in the HDR forum, we’re concerned that SF2 will disappear from EVO one day since new games are always coming out and EVO is looking to remove old games from the list.

I’m very thankful for John Choi allowing us to hold this tournament and agreeing to stream the TOP-X.

So for this ST tournament we’re also testing water for some ideas to make tournament go faster.

The biggest challenge is that we’ll run this after HDR pool (from last super ncr it might finish sometime after 11am).
SSF4 pool starts after lunch at 1pm.

Some people will have a high chance of not hanging around like John Choi or James Chen (if he comes), or any of you that also enter SSF4, or if you go to early/late lunch.

So we’ll try to ask people’s phone number (or email if you have push-capable phone) during registration (if you agree), and when we run the bracket, we’ll try to see if the players going for the next match is around.

If not, we can text you (NCR will have free wifi for the whole venue).

If you are sure you cannot make it, reply and we can immediately DQ you without blocking the next match.

Your contact information will be shredded after the tourney.

Another idea is we’ll focus on the loser bracket.

If we can remove as many people from the bracket as early as possible, it will be better since people can then go eat lunch earlier, and then come back early for team battle and casual.

Also like BTC said, we’ll follow what damdai did. If the player for the current match is not available, we’ll skip immediately to the next match where players are present. We’ll only start DQ when none of the matches can continue.

I’m going to use LightningStorm’s bracket maker to run the bracket. I did a trial run and it was superbly good.

Also I’ll try to bring a laptop and update the bracket online. So if you’re eating lunch you can check the bracket with your smart phones.

Do you guys have any concern with our plan?

Or if you have other ideas, please suggest!

BTW if any of you don’t enter any other games and offer to help us out, we welcome any helping hand we can get.

i’ll tell the other guys to post up im sure they will want to play if they go

Starcup is great. My favorite kind of tournament. If you’re going to do online bracket, use tonamento. People can prereg and add their phone numbers themselves and receive text messages automatically when their match is up, and u don’t have to worry about updating a separate online bracket. You can also run the tournament directly from you’re iPhone if you have one. I’m gonna try and make it out.

Starcup sounds good.

Wo Ho! Jason Cole confirmed via PM, and I quoted him “cant be letting choi have all the fun hehehe”

The adult team is looking strong, I tell ya…

Awesome! It wouldn’t be a complete OG ST tourney without Cole.

Time to start training mode, I want to make sure there’s enough 720’s to go around since it seems like the roster is adding up nicely. Papasi, just because your running it, I will be serving FREE, 720’s to everyone that attends. That’s right guys, you heard it, free of charge.

Too far.

Will the ST tourney only be on one day? I can probably only make it on Saturday.

Mizuki, it is mentioned in previous post.

if there are less than 20 people, everything will be finished on sat.

If the number is close to 32 or higher, top X will be on sunday. So if you are top X and cannot play on sunday, we’ll discuss how to resolve that.

Sign, I’m all in!

Cool, your name is added.

BTW, please help spread the words if you think your friends are interested, or you have acquaintances that live close to norcal / CA that might be going.

man, i would love to make this (i’m based in northern virginia)! i just got into the scene with sf4 and am looking to get seriously into st. wish you guys the best of luck with the turnout and hope things run smoothly

If you live in NoVA, then you’re in luck since MD/VA is one of the hotbeds of ST comp. We often have weekly casuals using supergun ST at Xanadu (Baltimore). And there are normally monthly tourneys. Just contact krost for more details.

And if you’re into big tourneys, NEC (Philly, early Dec.) will have ST on a cab. NEC typically has the fiercest comp on the east coast so it’d certainly worth attending if you have the time and interest.

Thanks bro ur the best!

Out of my kindness i will give everyone a free boot in yo ass by my Guile for participating and supporting this historical ST tourney that papasi has put together.

I am flying into the bay area on that monday (Family lives in Santa Clara). What day is the ST tourny? I checked the first post and could not see it. Once I have a date, I can look into changing my ticket.

@DGV: Thanks for the heads up!!!

If its in the thread, can you please update the first page so those interested don’t have to search the informtion out! PLEASE!!!
