The UMvC3 Tron Bonne Changes

Finally a video. The higher knockback on jH makes me almost certain that j:h:->j:rdp::h: will now work on all grounded characters (used to not work well on Ammy, Arthur etc)!

Edit: Wow I’m stupid. jH still won’t hit them until she’s low enough to be unable to do air drill.

yeah i hate these tron nerfs… they dont make sense. i also am pretty salty on the whole cause of the nerfs cause the characters that i use got nerfed so hard even though they arent necessarily the best (tron and ironman) cant see the thinking behind either characters nerfs. crapcom strikes again.

I’m starting to think the buffs she got may be worth the J.H nerf. Hopefully there will be some new tech or ability from them

I think that her (unwarranted) nerfs are making me salty because Tron is one of the few characters I consistently enjoyed while playing Vanilla (as in, she never lost her spot on my team), and one of the only two characters who carried over from my MvC2 days (the other being Dr. Doom) and actually had gotten better, the dumb glitched assist was just replaced by a dumb broken assist in MvC3 lol.

It’s a little disappointing to see one of your favorite characters get nerfed regardless of the game you’re playing, people just usually see it coming because there’s a reason for it, Tron has NO real reason to be nerfed, her assist yes, and that WAS nerfed appropriately, but why the hell did they mess with her so much on point? I just can’t understand, buffs or no, everything they changed about her seems kind of random and unnecessary.

/rant - I’ll bottle my Tron nerf-salt until Ultimate drops and pour it into the wounds of every scrubby netplayer I see (hopefully with Tron Bonne).

For what it’s worth, jH->Bonne Strike H still leads to over 800k damage if you have an assist like Jam Session, or Hyakuretsukyaku anyway (even with Capture Gun, sM, and jH nerfs [assuming that jH xx jRDP-H works flawlessly in UMVC]).

Edit: or at least, I get about 866,600 with Dante…
Edit2: Got about 861,200 with Chunners. This probably works with pretty much any assist to “hold” them.

So far I can get 451,500 damage meterless/assistless while building over 1.5 bars off a jHxxjRDP-H series into Bandit Boulder assuming the sM, jH, Beacon Bomb nerfs are staying. If we can do sH off an otg Bandit Boulder I will be VERY HAPPY!:shake:

I guess this isn’t much compared to Vanilla (where I would get over 900k with the ClakeyD combo), but with the many health nerfs taken into account; she may not be that bad after all…:bluu:

Edit3: I kind of forgot that most combos that actually get landed are going to be scaled b/c an assist was likely used to start the combo…

Well guys, I started with Drones, jHxxjRDP-H and used Jam Session to end it. Got 932,000 if all three drones hit. This isn’t a bad scenario by any means (and I do often pair Tron with Sent); but I imagine starting with Jam Session or Unibeam etc would dampen the combo. (edit:4) Just tried it by starting with Jam Session and ending with Drones; and still got 841,600 with 1/3 of a meter left. Also just started with Unibeam assist, and used Gamma Charge assist to finish and got 882,300.

None of these are probably practical btw; I’m just having fun trying to come up with UMVC post nerf combos…too bad all of mine require 1/2 assists (Unless you can jH off a Bandit Bolder now)…

:lame:

With all the j.H, Beacon Bomb, etc. nerfs, if Tron’s capable of OTG’ing with Bandit Boulder with NO assist, I’ll be happy.

I’ve heard she can, so that is rather nice. I just wish we didn’t get that at the cost of nerfing her ability to start her combos

I thought I read somewhere that Boulder was special cancelable? So probably no to a jH, but boulder straight to lunchtime, or drill xx lunchtime should work.

I’m actually really curious about Bandit Boulder now. If the hitstun is good enough, we could have some really nice combos on our hands, and it might actually work as a new combo starter if you can cancel into a special from the boulder Toss part of the animations. like, Boulder hit xx Drill into combo? if stuff like that works, then tron might have come out of this with a net gain.

Wish I could ge my hands on a build and test this shit

Tested the game out recently, was pretty underwhelmed.
Going back to Eurogamer tomorrow though, anything people want checked?

I was watching the one match on the SDCC version of the game to find out that she could cancel her boulder into specials at least, so hopefully she can go into Lunch Rush afterwards.

@Howtoread, one thing i’d like to know right now (if it hasn’t been done already) is if the distance of her boulder (forward h) has been improved in distance, like if it travels pretty much full screen.

That was my assist throughout the day, and I think it does, but I’ll make sure tomorrow

Ok, good luck with that, it would be nice for Tron if she had some sort of a reliable projectile that can go full screen on point, if you can find anything else about her would be nice to know, like possibly a new move but i’m not gonna getting my hopes up on that.

I think Capcom’s idea of a ‘new move’ was to give her the ability to fire three servbots one after the other…
Looks funny, though.

So is she as worthless now as I fear? Or did you see anything redeeming in her at all?

The assist version of bandit boulder has always gone fullscreen, while the point version goes about half (maybe less, rarely use it, lol).

With the nerfs and buffs, it kinda seems like Capcom wants Tron to be a grappler + zoning hybrid character, wheras in vanilla, she was more of a rushdown + grappler hybrid.

People are complaining about beacon bomb speedup being a useless buff, but think about how broken beacon bomb would be if the startup/recovery were fast; an extremely easy to hitconfirm projectile that leads to 800k+ dmg? Personally, I use H beacon bomb all the time to punish runaway zoners hard; works great on Trish and Zero, who die in one combo.

That being said, please test Beacon bomb a few times and get a feel for how much faster it really is.

is it actually useful though? or just " hey look! servbots!"

Right now it’s already useful for mixups on incoming characters, but not much else. If the recovery is a little faster, I could see them functioning similar to Ammy’s paper.

If capcom is indeed going for the zoning + grappler angle, then they’ve kinda dropped the ball. As of now, her zoning is still subpar at best, and as for grappling, her command grab (annoyingly like most grappler based command grabs in this game) has range that just doesn’t cut it in Marvel.

Does anyone find it strange that the only characters with genuinely functioning and scary command grabs are
Sentinel and Skrull, and to a lesser extent X-23? Ya know why? CUZ THEY ACTUALLY HAVE RANGE

Now, if Trons command grab had Sentinel level range (personally, I think Haggar and Thor deserve that as well), THEN she’d be a frightening zoner/grappler, since her close ranged projectiles would accentuate her no longer useless command grab.

If they’re really going for zoning + grappling, they’ve failed pretty badly. Tron cannot zone out ANYONE, given the a super jump gets them over any Servbots in the air and her beacon bomb is worthless outside of combos (which means that in Ultimate, it is utterly valueless). Grappling? Her command grabs are pure gimmicks that might work once or twice off of a blocked drill but are generally worthless. Vanilla Tron on point is a very flawed rushdown character with pathetic grappling and zoning elements thrown in there.
