Good guest characters are every character in a crossover game.
No non-crossover game needs guest characters.
Except Netherrealms games, cause who gives a shit.

Yeah, we cool. I just don’t see the merit in praising Capcom for a decision they didn’t really make; it’s like praising a toddler for not getting into the stuff you keep on the top shelf. The other points is mostly laughing at calling SFV strong (which was probably misread on my part). All that said, I still give Namco shit for their guests (among other things), so I’m hardly disagreeing with the base idea.
“Not wasting a slot” doesn’t hold up in a game with Kage. Other characters were also arguably wasted slots considering who they deliberately snubbed to fit them in (re. Abigail vs Hugo, like half the DLC cast vs Fei Long, fishing out the lamest half of Alpha 3). Like I was saying, don’t attribute to principle what can easily be attributed to ineptitude.
Yo wtf Sean starred in his own mobile game?
I never knew about this
EDIT: It’s called Sean no Basket and was released in 2001. I’ve literally never heard of this thing before but it was based on a subscription service so I highly doubt it’s playable now
There are tons there also like Poker and Ryu busting bricks
In japan they have their own version of SF2 that is different from the version for nokia phone and other popular phone that time.
Her backstory could be completely rewritten, and she doesn’t have to be italian. I think they thought “Italy” for Rose’s apprentice just cause Rose is from there, but like Menat proved, she could be from anywhere really.
Looking at her features, I’d think she was more irish anyway
Well, we got blond/ginger people too… but yes, that’s mostly capcom designing almost all western to have “nordic” colors (see the % of blonds in SF universe lol) to sell their japanese audience that they’re watching a western character
But i agree (and of course support) on her not having to be italian
Forget for a moment the “japanese young gang element” an tbh i will just like a super scrappy ginger irish girl repping bare knuckle boxing lol
Imagine the West vs East toughness contest with Makoto LOL
Well my point was, and still, that Capcom could have got a Guest if they wanted to (as lesser franchises got one) and consciously chosen to not, with my praise be on that decision
But i think we already covered our points, no?
Btw i agree on you on
Indeed bad guest is not the only way to waste a slot lol
I give a slot any day to a GOOD guest over Kage (and a bunch of others)
But i take Kage or even These-3-days-Evil-Sakura over something that completely disprect the host game like, lets say TWD dude in Tekken7 that stand proud like a turd over a vanilla cake
Guest can reach very high level of awesomeness, but can also fuck up like nothing else… that’s why my “better not” mindest
Plus is on general bad move on loyal fans of the series who are waiting “their” char to show up and see these things appear instead
I know example ShamSho fans are pissed at that, but to take another series in SC6 i’m still waiting to see Hwang, Setsuka, Rock and Lizardman… and we got 3 guest
Also the game got a ridicolous low amount of stages, including some pretty bland ones and still they gave the 3 guest a stage each, ignoring most of the SC cast lack one
Sadly @YagamiFire is correct on this one and another problem of Guest is exactly this
Not only who chose should be able to pick a fitting character, but before that other marketing/promotional priorities have to be satisfied first, or they will not make the move to begin with
Is still possible do a pick satisfy everything… example Terry or Geese (who recently did the Guest thing) would be both popular/hype af AND they would perfectly fit SF
But again, this is all about if you trust hem or not to do the right pick… if answer is no, i prefer no guest
Menat was great additional to the cast, Capcom is great in picking character design.
If you would compare that to the other concept it is surely that Menat stands out regardless even without the backstory,
Whoever thought in Capcom for bringing in Kage and replacing Evil Ryu for good is undeniable a genius. because it solve two major problems, yet it never made followers of those kind of character left out. Now Ryu wouldn’t be redundant and still having an edgy counterpart that doesn’t play like him because we got Kage which is a replacement for Evil Ryu, Kage is Evil Ryu without Ryu.
Great Job Capcom. One hit solve two.
Honestly, in terms of production value, Negan is actually kind of interesting in just how well they translated a “real” person into a Tekken game, visually speaking. Still a massive WTF, and kind of sad they didn’t try that with an actual martial artist or professional wrestler, but I can appreciate him even if he shouldn’t have made it past a trailer. Noctis on the other hand can die in a fire, as everything I just said doesn’t apply to him.
Street Fighter probably has the least defined identity of any major fighter (hence gameplay, character design/direction, and art change radically between games) and in theory would handle guests better than any of the others.
Yes. If they drop the sukebon design, that would totally work.
No it’s not, because no guest character would be satisfying in SF.
The problem won’t be solved until Kage has his own physical body. Because the way he is now, as Ryu’s disembodied dark side, they could still have him taking over Ryu whenever they feel like it.
And even then…it’s still a dumb waste of a character slot. Just less so that it was before.
SNK are sellouts bro, been saying this since they abandoned pachinko for chinese mobile games.
They probably gonna put a team of underaged gigatit ninjas from Senran Kagura in KOF15. With no rollback netcode.
You realize SNK has been like…3 separate companies, right?
Who criticized SNK for abandoning the pachinko market? Even with the focus on mobile, Metal Slug Defense seemed fairly widely praised, while the other mobile games didn’t seem to be hated. Meanwhile, SNK was reviving its fighting game efforts. (That’s without even getting into people just being happy to see a company go the opposite direction of Konami.)
As for Senran Kagura, I’d much rather see Senran Kagura guest stars in Samurai Shodown than generic knight guy from For Honor. (Senran Kagura girls would fit right in with Iroha anyway.) Not that SNK would likely pick any of the characters that are interesting. No, it would be someone like uber-bland protagonist Asuka.
The state of Senran Kagura is somewhat disappointing. The beat’em-ups had a decent core, while the console versions were drifting into the under-represented Koei Warriors mass brawlers. It was a solid enough foundation that could have become something special with more attention and polish on the gameplay side. (The story was badly flawed and a bit stupid, but it had some potential as well that could have been explored.) But mindless T&A sells, so that’s where all the (minimal) effort was put.
Need a full blown Soul Caliber x SamSho IMO
That’s why I want him to merge with Necali or tries to manipulate Necali since they had kinda similar edgy like appeal
And the best thing is that we won’t see evil Ryu back I hope so, and I hope we won’t see Ryu again having inner struggle. That’s the real problem and struggle for many SF and crossover titles in years that was there especially in SF4 and it was solve. It was a great job by whoever in Capcom.
I don’t bother imho seeing a Resetmaru figure like to be roaming around than endless evil ryu with redundancy and endless story ryu dealing with inner struggle. Fused with Necali also clears up everything.
Yeah due to poor decisions and plain stupidity on their part.
Without go this far, after Haohmaru in SC6 they could have tried get a Soul Calibur Guest (almost anybody would fit very well) instead generic shit from For Honor or cheap fantasy stuff from not-Leagueoflegends
Or no guest at all, they got still many fan favourites still out
This is the guest character I’d want.
But, to be true, a SFxVF crossover doesn’t feel like it would mix.
Did you just call Musou games underrepresented?
