Some interessing ones, he sound more original and having personal opinions rather than usual cliche-Bison talking

What I did was Print Screen from the game and then put the image through Yandex: Translate text from photos from English and other languages – Yandex.Translate? or https://www.imagetranslate.com. Both are good options, but Imagetranslate is usually better at getting the Jpn text in its entirety. Yandex is faster, but it can be more hit or miss in general.
For example:
Rugal: ゆくゆく は 全て の 裏 組織 を 支配 する !
Bison: ほほう …… それ は 楽しみ だ な 。
So that’s pretty much all you need.
I was thinking about posting a Vasili… I mean Google Translate version of your quote, but I think waiting for Midgard’s probably best lol
Rugal: “Soon we’ll control all the underworld syndicates”
Bison: “A smile? It is fun, isn’t it?”
Or thereabouts
Ay. Imagine Rugal and Bison working together.
I’m no Midgard, but in my small year of studying Japanese, Dictator’s more like “heh, looking forward to it.”
Another image, this time from Vampire Saviour’s development:
Originally, Lilith was going to be an angel character named Genevieve. Later, it was decided that she should be an hermaphrodite instead but Haruo Murata rejected that idea because he felt that it was too shallow and the idea seemed to only exist to follow on trends and so Lilith was changed into a female succubus with some androgynous features.
Will have liked Lilith to be instead an “angel” character, ever in favor of new and different design instead “serialize” an existing one, specially if already in
I agree Cestus. I would have preferred an Angel version of Lilith. The roster of the Vampire series is too small to have derivative characters.
Angel would have indeed been the better option especially as a missing archetype from DS
Also…I had crazy good inspiration for a look for a modern SF character…considering how to visualize it
Yagami, I have a question about Rugal.
Do you know the extent of his copy abilities? When it comes to the games, we see him use Geese’ Reppuken and Krauser’s Kaiser Wave. Dark Barrier, Genocide Cutter, and God Press appear to be techniques he created on his own. Everything Omega Rugal does is unique as well.
In KOF Destiny, Heidern used his Cross Cutter to stop the Kaiser Wave, then we see Rugal immediately use it to knock Heidern out a few moments later. He then knocks Terry out with Crack shoot, before getting ready to do Kyo’s Shiki Orochi Nagi. Seeing him create Kyo’s flames made me think of how it’s stated only those from the Kusanagi bloodline can form those flames. Rugal somehow bypassed that limitation. I know Destiny isn’t considered canon, but I like how it gives us a better look at Rugal outside of the games.
So do you think the ability to mimic techniques is something innate to Rugal? And do you believe there’s a limit to what he could steal?
I always got the vibe that there was something creepily special about him. If you notice in his likes, he doesn’t really have a sport since he’s so good at ALL of them. It seems that to some extent, he just has to see them in action and try it out. I remember in the original plans, he was supposed to be able to get more abilities during his Omega Rugal boss fight in 95, but we only really got Athena’s reflect move.
Never understood how he could do this. As a kid, I kept wondering if he’d be revealed to be Orochi somehow, but looking back, with how Goenitz treated him and how he can’t handle the power I feel that’s been debunked. I’d love to hear some theories.
About limits, I don’t think he’d be able to mimic the Kusanagi flames, I’d put the limit there and say that’s just the non-canon nature of the show showing through. I think if it’s a technique needing ki and not something external like a bloodline, technology or magic, he can copy it with some effort. Either way, from the beginning there was something special about Rugal.
I always liked Lilith and enjoy her as she is now, but after giving it some thought, the Angel angle could have been fun as long as they kept her spunky personality. Morrigan is the alluring succubus, Lilith is the energetic little sister counterpart who’s glowing with sunshine. It would work quite well actually. She’s already pretty cheery other than some choice lines and moves. She could have taken her existing cheeriness, combine it with a “doesn’t know her own strength” aspect to account for some of her more violent moves, etc. Plus, combining her being an actual Angel with the fact Felicia’s a catholic could have led to some fun interactions.
I do hope that if by some miracle, DS comes back, they revisit the idea. Augh, there’s so much potential for the series. The lore was less touched upon than SF (yet some interesting details exist in the expanded materials), with recent years we’ve gotten more exposure to international monsters, and with modern approaches to storytelling, graphical power and whatnot, there’s room for some unique and exciting game elements.
Kinda reminds me of Taskmaster. Before they retconned his backstory, he was just a guy that had natural photographic memory since he was a child. It just isn’t as ridiculous as Rugal’s version.
It does seem like a natural ability to Rugal. In KOF 11, Magaki states that Adelheid has an “amazing, inate ability”, which is a big deal considering how useless he thinks most humans are. Adelheid was never close to his father, so he had to have inherited Rugal’s fighting prowess. Sounds similar to Rock being able to utilize many of Geese’s techniques.
In CVS2, he developed the ability to siphon one’s power and make it his own. He absorbed the Satsui no Hado and tells Bison in his opening quote that he’s going to take his power. In the KOF series, Heidern and Leona could siphon your health and add it to their own. I’m leaning towards Rugal copying the skill from Heidern…with the Orochi power allowing Rugal to have an added effect of draining their powers.
The stuff about sports reminds me of his quote to Nakororu. He basically says his extensive knowledge of various martial arts also applies to swordsmanship. So he really does seem like a “Whatever you can do, I can do…but better” type of guy.
That wasn’t a scrapped air throw. It was the pose Roll assumed while landing a tag super piledriver when paired with Zangief (and that’s exactly what the relative text says, by the way). You can see it at 2’50’’ here:
Incidentally, Roll already had an air throw that used the same sprites as her normal throw (it’s in the same video, somewhere before the piledriver).
There’s lots of interesting info here and there in Sakura’s journey, like the fact that SAGAT UNIFIED THE LUMPINEE AND RAJADAMNERN TITLES before Ryu beat him… Working on it.
@Doctrine_Dark
I’m starting to think I should ask for a payment… The OCR did a good job, but a few characters were misinterpreted here and there rendering the phrases meaningless; so I had to resort to a Japanese site that has all the quotes compiled for reference. Still working on it…
@TazyryLipo
“Genevieve” isn’t written anywhere in the original Japanese text, however; a quick research brings out the suspect that’s a fan nickname that came out in the West, a bit like Lucia MORGAN… What IS in the text, on the other hand, is EXTREMELY interesting. Basically, they say that her moveset was “inspired by classic ballet, so that she doesn’t seem to actually willingly attack her opponent, rather dancing and beating him while doing it”. That’s EXACTLY the description of INGRID’s moveset. I strongly suspect they recycled many “AngelLilith”'s moves ideas with Ingrid…
IIRC, Roll may blurt out “ecchi” when she jumps. Ecchi means something like dirty/pervert/creep but I could be wrong. Dr.Light also has lines in MVC where he either congratulates Megaman/Roll or offers them cake. Light’s lines were omitted from international releases of MVC but were added back in for the PS1 port.
Thanks man. I am definitely the furthest from knowing anything about JPN characters, so I assumed the OCR was replicating what was in the image. I have all of the dialogue directly from the game, but I thought it’d be more convenient having them in text form. Nice to know it wasn’t entirely bad.
So for future reference, if I would like to know what Guile says to Eagle, it’d make more sense to post a line directly like this:
in order to make sure all of the characters and phrases are intact. Got it. Thanks.
That’s the meaning, although I never heard Roll say “ecchi” in game.
I don’t see any line, but if you want the quote from Guile to Eagle, the Japanese site reports
この手の輩は軍にもいるが...俺はカンベン願いたい。
“I already have a friend in the army that acts like you, too… Gimme a break.”
Incidentally, @ToreyBeans’s interpretation of Dictator’s reply to Rugal is correct.
Yeah, Dropbox didn’t let me embed it for some reason.
So Guile does indeed have a friend that acts like Eagle in the army.
Does Rugal talk about sending Kyosuke to the land of the dead or something here?
Here, does Rugal mention the Assassin’s Fist being overrated/exaggerated compared to rumors he’s heard?
These ones were always on my mind for the longest.
Yes.
そう急がずともよかろう。黄泉への一本道は、すでに用意されている!
No need to fret. Your straight path to the underworld has been already prepared!
Yes.
噂に聞く必殺拳も、しょせんは誇張されたものだったか!
So, even the killing fist I heard about was exaggerated, after all?
