The Ultra Inevitable Street Fighter V Story Thread

Zombie Bison… Noo…

That’s been done before

I would be okay if the purple had to do something with the being an astral projection or a psycho power manifestation.

A aftermath and directors cut would be interesting.

I know this isn’t really a constructive post and hate to be another negative person online but damn are those some awful (or at the very least ill suited) pictures for Street Fighter. Embarrassing.

Not Zombie Bison, it’s Final Bison like the Story Costume.

Would you prefer Phantom Bison finally had a decent role other than being a CFN Profile?’

Mike Tyson said he was honored by Mike Bison. Lol

All this name changing foolishness (probably minus Gouki) could’ve been solved if Japan would’ve just approached Tyson and said, “hey, we did a thing with your likeness! You good with us calling him Mike Bison globally? PERFECT - enjoy the game~!!!”

Except that Balrog is a stupid name for somebody from Spain.

Dictator should’ve been Balrog

Claw stays Vega

Boxer stays M.Bison

100%.
Vega is a Spanish name.
Bison is a great name for a big dumb musclehead.
Balrog is a great name for a demon of shadow and fire.

Seems to me for Dictator, Capcom JP was going for the brightest star (Vega) in the Alpha Lyra constellation.

That’s all I got.

The point is, the Japanese were already accustomed to “Vega” as a fully believable name for a supervillain. The origin of the name comes surely from the star, but the first instance of “Vega” as a supervillain was in UFO Robot Grendizer, a 1975 animated series by Gō Nagai. King Vega was the ruthless dictator of planet Vega, who obviously sought to invade Earth. No actual resemblance to Bison, but the name was already there. The anime was so popular in Europe that I bet @Cestus_II remembers very well the character…

Should have named him Sirius.

Will you guys okay that Mike would retcon out as Bison before later?

any thoughts or opinion?

Why it’s good or bad?

Only people that would care are ST people, and they’re already using Dictator, Claw, Boxer.

Yoooo Grendizer mention, the theme song for the series was kick ass

@Midgardsorm
Yeah, not my generation but for people 10 years older was THE anime… thing the italian version song sold almost 2 MILLION copies lol

While there are more direct inspirations for the design (the SF character prototype was straight listed as Washizaki iirc), i say they took some traits/mannerism fom ufo robot’s King Vega

" King Vega is a ruthless and very cruel man, ruling Planet Vega with an iron fist. Seeing military might as the only true way to rule, he never hesitates to make underhanded tactics to get what he wants. One example is the engagement between Rubina and Duke he supposedly agreed to but actually had no plans to turn over his daughter and instead used it to spearhead the invasion of Planet Fleed. He is also very stubborn, refusing to admit the fault that it was the mining of Vegatron that is causing the death of Planet Vega. Despite being ruler of his planet, King Vega cares little for his people, leaving many of them to die when the core of the planet begins to break down."

Another example here King Vega die laughing like ASF Bison (timestamped)

Another link may be he got 3 main Generals that serve him

He also had a daughter that he wanted to use for his plans, who hate him and side with good guys, wich may remember a bit Cammy situation

Still i’m on this boat

at least for western version, where we did’nt got originals names anyway (evebn if i understand it will not fit the very reason they did it in the west lol)

Not only that, Rog’s animal symbol is the buffalo just like Sagat’s is the tiger

Bison is’nt buffalo, but still large fierce wild bovids

Outside that it also SOUND a very american name, being “bison” the english name of a very USA symbolic animal, while on other hand Balrog does’nt sound english language

Ultimately my dream pick will have been:

  • Dictator- totally another name

  • Claw- Vega

  • Boxer- M.Bison (with M being Mike)

I 100% support Mike getting retconned into being Balrog.
I also support Joe being retconned into Cody and Geki being retconned into Zeku.

I support this

but not this

My ideal “origins” will have been

  • MIKE: ok him being Rog. Actually will have even liked SF1 Mike being a broken former world Champ who fallen hard end up in jail and shit, with M.Bison recruiting him as second chance of power/wealth, and RENAMED him Balrog (with “Balrog” being essentially his Shadaloo codename)

  • GEKI: No much reason to have Zeku as him, specially considering Geki was kind of a can and used a weapon, while Zeku is very powerful char and Bushinryu ninjutsu it’s highly focused on taijutsu (bare-hands fighting).
On other hand Geki could have been immensely useful to add pieces to Vega’s story, explaining how a spanish matador end up using ninjutsu moves and that asian claw instead his matador light sword.
Maybe have Geki as banned from the ninja clan and working as early-shadaloo member, training a very young, recently recruited Vega.
Maybe even make him occupy the previous position as shada-king, with Vega taking it by killing him evil-anime-disciple style lol

  • JOE: No. The whole concept of Cody was him just being a local badass brawler who get serious zero-to-hero due GF kidnapping being the trigger… him having any part in SF1 will interfere with that to me. Sure, Cody having clear and technical Full Contact/US Kickboxing base does’nt fit much the “just a talented no-style brawler” narrative, but this is another story

The guy can literally turn himself into a ball of purple fire. He’s a living interdimensional sun of negative energy. There’s plenty of reason why his name is Vega, and none have to do with Spanish. Vega may be common name in Spain, but the name precedes Spanish culture.

Interesting - mind elaborating…?

We had discuss Shadaloo Code name and aliases long ago. I think it came first with @Yagamifire. The Idea was for him as Mike having a huge debt because of casino lending him a “new alias” to hide him from the authorities.

That’s cool and all, and I get it (although to be fair, it was until I read the explanation) but it’s not super weird that myself and other people read/listen “Vega” and relate it more to the Spanish/latin surname instead of to some fiery star from a culture they may not be very knowledgeable of (or real astronomy).

And last (this is subjective I know) but vega doesn’t sound imposing enough to me for Dictator, phonetically it fits Claw much more IMO.
