Not possible. Ww3 was the worst mini ever
is it just me, or did the pencils on this last issue seem incomplete and kind of sloppy?
Yeah this comic is terrible. Utterly unsalvagable. These are funny though:
From now on i’m just gonna follow it on that website, since i only care about the artwork anyway.
lol, sums up my feelings exactly.
lmao that was funny stuff i rather read that then what loeb been writing and he calls him self pro writer he cant write him self a s.o.s if he was suck in a tree on a iland cought on fire.
“Comrade Yumski”
oh god great stuff
Issue 3 preview.
Looks like the fun ride continues.
^Link doesn’t work. Anyway I started reading Ultimates last night and caught up today. Was there something I should’ve read before Vol. 3 #1?
Anyway the art is kickass, but I can’t say much on the story mainly cuz well…I was OK with it considering that I haven’t read as much comics as all you guys:confused:
Off the top of my head I would say ultimate power is a must read because of everything that happens with nick fury.
After looking over the ultimates 3 I always had a strange feeling. I figured it out this morning. I love joe mads art but his designs look to much like the 616 universe. Yes I know its petty but I started reading the ultimate books cause the designs were new and the storys and writing are just too good.
Edit: the link dosent work cause the whole web adress isnt posted. just go to comicbookresources.com and the preview should be on the front page.
If you ask me they should of thrown bendis on the ultimates . yes I know the man is now the go to guy for marvel but the man almost single handedly crafted the ultimate universe.
Oh well at least ultimate human looks to be going strong. unlike the ultimate hulk/wolverine mess, two years now and still waiting on issue 3, it will never happen now but I could dream.
I found Ultimate Power to be the most useless story ever.
I fixed the link! :arazz:
The only thing about the “616” costumes I didn’t care for were Iron man and Thor’s hammer. Everything else seemed “plausible” to me.
Especially Wolverine in the original UXM costume.
To me, Ultimates 3 is like reading All Star Batman. It’s just fun. Shut your brain off and go kinda fun.
I’ve heard Lenil has a script for issue 3, but is waiting on the whole series to be scripted before he works on it. (once his schedule frees up)
Except Frank Miller knows it’s not a serious book. Jeph Loeb is actually selling this thing as something it’s not: an actually serious story that will “change the Ultimates forever.”
For $3? At least admit that it’s all a horrible joke. Joe Mad’s art is the only thing saving this book. Nothing else.
They advertised that as a serious book originally. No one came out and said “this is tongue-in-cheek”.
With the team of “Mr. Dark Knight Returns” and “Jim-mfing-Lee” no less.
People still complain about the book, too.
And come on, every book every company does has the will “change the face of <title> forever!” hype.
Maybe he pulls a rabbit out of a hat?
Who can say? The book isn’t done yet.
Either way, it’s entertaining and that’s all I want out of it.
I paid 4 bucks to rent Die Hard 4 and had just as much fun watching that.
I’m paying 6$ (hypothetically) since they’re being bastards and re-releasing the issues with just the pencils.
Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll do it as a hardcover like they did with Simone’s Wolverine arc. (that does not exist)
What about the fact that Jan is no longer Asian? It’s like Joe Mad didn’t even bother looking at Hitchy’s art for previous reference.
The difference between Ultimates 3 and All-Star Batman is that Batman is written by a guy who gets the joke and drawn by a guy who doesn’t get the joke. Ultimates 3 is written and drawn by guys who don’t realize that they ARE the joke.
You pretty much nailed it. He just drew them all as he’d draw the regular avengers.
lol at Ultimates going from the best marvel comic to one of the worst.
Also lol at Jim Lee. “I bet Frank thinks this will be funnier too with more splash pages and cross hatching!”
Could not agree more. And when did caps eyebrows show outside of his mask?
I could be a bit bias on the subject cause ultimates 1 and 2 were both awsome but 4 to 5 issues for a 3rd run, come on man. and with the whole ultimatum stuff about to go down it looks like on book is getting the ax.
Of course it could be like the avengers, a few people die and the team disbands only to form a new team a year later.
I guess you’re not a big fan of the manga/anime/animerica style because NO ONE looks Japanese like they’re supposed to. So to me, it’s not a big deal.
I mean, we’re on a Street Fighter forum…this is nothing new.
Hell, Psylocke hasn’t been drawn asian since she BECAME asian.
I’m enjoying it, so are a lot of other people.
Comparing it to the previous Ultimates is silly. Even the creators said it wasn’t going to be remotely the same book, yet people are still comparing them.
If you’re not enjoying it, than that’s your thing, but insulting creators just makes you look like a dime-a-dozen internet fanboy.
2 issues of this so called “joke” have sold out, I’m sure the rest of them will too. So I’m sure they’re laughing all the way to the bank.
I think you missed the point, champ.
First of all, I do enjoy manga and anime. I just don’t think Joe Mad is a good artist. All style, no substance. Lots of nice pictures that could make hot posters, but not very convincing as a storyteller. For an example, go back to issue one. Look at that one page where Jan finally helps Cap realize that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver have an incestuous relationship. Their facial expressions are static and overexaggerated. Also, their body language is ridiculous. In one panel, Jan actually folds her hands together by her heart, like she thinks it’s sooooo romantic. If this is supposed to be a humor book, it’s not very clear.
I know why he’s popular, but I can’t enjoy Joe Mad’s work.
Everybody is entitled to drawing in a certain style, but he could at least make an effort at consistency with the characters. At least people who draw Psylocke give her kind of slinty eyes, and she usually has the same black or dark purple hair. If there’s any reason why Psylocke doesn’t look Asian, it’s because artists like to draw breasts that are way too big. Why does Ultimate Jan suddenly look like a slutty redhead? Think about it this way - what if Joe Mad draws Ultimate Nick Fury, and instead of Samuel L., we see a grizzled, 50-year old, cigar-chomping white dude with hair? Nobody can draw the Beast EXACTLY like Frank Quitely, but at least other artists have made an attempt to continue drawing Quitely’s particular redesign. Joe Mad’s lazy, and that’s proof right there.
And I don’t think it’s silly to compare it to Millar and Hitchy’s Ultimates. Loeb and Mad invite the comparison themselves. Why else would they use the same title? It’s not that I, or any other reasonable Millar/Hitch fan, demand more of the same. I know that’s an unreasonable expectation. But I think most people like to have something of substance that they can read. Ultimates 3 is not good comics. I don’t ask for every comic book I read to reinvent the medium, but I honestly feel that Ultimates 3 is embarrassing.
I don’t think I have insulted the creators. I’ve just been bluntly disparaging their work. True, I probably wouldn’t say the exact words I have been using if I met them face to face, but I’m hiding safely and comfortably behind my keyboard. You can call me a “dime-a-dozen internet fanboy” if you wanna, but I just have standards, man. In addition, I don’t think I have called you any insulting names to warrant this unmitigated slander. I demand an apology, or I will have no recourse but to report you to Sano, our wise and just moderator.
Lastly, I believe that the whole deal between “hot-selling” and “critically acclaimed” applies with Ultimates 3. Lots of stuff that sucks is popular. The masses are the lowest common denominator, after all. What’s rare is when something is hot-selling AND critically acclaimed - like Millar/Hitch’s Ultimates. If you think that selling thousands more copies of Ultimates 3 somehow validates Loeb and Joe Mad, go ahead and believe that. I’m sure they are more popular and top-selling than, like, Art Spiegelman. Does that make them better comics creators?
LOL here I am trying to stay out of it.
Zeph and Apathy - Both of you are Spider-Man Brand New Day supporters, kind of rare in this forum. Can’t you get along somehow, agree to disagree or something?
