The Ultimate Tron Bonne Matchup and Match Videos Thread

^ Some good stuff there. Always learn something new and useful.

Heres a treat:

Some really good Tron play from our friends in Mexico~! Really good Tron/Viper tech here.

Just got the pool for FR.

Notable players are Noel Brown and Jan.

Wolverine matchup is icky, HulkDrones matchup is even more icky.

I figured Hulk was kinda iffy with this character (I’m just bad against Hulk as well as bad in that matchup with the characters I play), but man if Hulk wants to be stubborn, Tron seems to have a hard time containing that.

Spent most of the day getting revenge-:h:'d by my buddy on stream. x_x;

^ I tried to watch that on stream, but it was lagging for me. -_-

Yeah, I think I fixed that issue for the future, sorry about that. If you ever stop by again and it’s still that bad, please let me know.

In not so related news, Tron’s point matchups really blow. For a character with such gorilla arms, she needs a lot of finesse applied to her approaches. Does she have anything to stop jumps and super jumps besides instant air throw?

Anti-Air List:

-Gustaff Fire
-Servbot Launcher
-Beacon Bomb H
-Stand S
-Stand L

Takes some practice to know when to use them, but she does have answers.

Heres a recent set with another underage player. I don’t think I do anything spectacular aside from just good Tron neutral. Actually dropped a lot of combos for whatever reason :stuck_out_tongue:

I have some casuals here with KillerKai and another Zero player if you’d like to see. Any constructive criticism is welcome, thanks guys~

Hey guys. I was at a monthly down in Baton Rouge this weekend and I got a couple sets on stream.

I played pretty solid I feel(for the most part)

first match is at about the 38 minute mark.

Second match is 3 hour 20 minute mark.

(second set is booty. I hate Dormamu)

Advice welcome.

This will probably sound bad at first but I am having trouble with…Phoenix Wright…

His Maya Shield with certain assists is near inpenetrable because the shield ends up protecting his assists too so when I try to rush with Tron it ultimately fails. Assists like Dante, Vergil, Haggar and Frank’s are really really really annoying to try get in on him because of the shield. I’ve tried using Sent to spam beams to try deal with him at range and pray he only gets bad evidence but it’s frustrating :V

Example Tron/Frank/Sent vs Wright/Haggar/Doom.

How on earth to you get past this? Without a strong beam hyper and beam assist I really have little options to deal with him and his shield with these assists at any range :V

The main thing you would have to rely on then with Tron and Sentinel are their command grabs. Try to be wary of wear PW is standing when he searches for evidence, but of course be cautious of the assists. Depending on how far behind Maya’s shield PW is, you may have to use a different strength for Tron’s grabs.

How would you guys deal with Captain America with Taskmaster (Horizontal) assist?
It’s funny, one of my friends plays Wesker/Dante/Vergil and although I get blown up by it I feel that I do OK against it.
However another plays Cap/Task/Wesker or Arthur and I do consistantly bad against it. The only time I do well is if I get some random lucky hit and manage to convert (Which can be difficult because of the area of the screen Cap uses).
Basically he has the plan of jumping Shield Slash L while calling Taskmaster then dashing/backflipping over to convert into a 950k-1.1m. If I just block it he gets to just do it over and over.
I’ve tried using f+M or standing H while calling Beam Assist but one of three things seem to happen.

  1. Shield is too fast - hits Tron and assist. 2 Dead Characters
  2. Fire/H eats the projectiles and beam hits Taskmaster. Captain gets away fine due to his double jump avoiding the beam + the drill (Attempt at mid screen conversion).
  3. I use f+M too early; Beats shield but then eat Taskmaster arrows.

Also (And this is more of a moan xD) he has a habit of doing really unsafe stuff (Like Hyper Charging Star in neutral) and then Xfactoring when you press a button to do the backflip while calling an assist. Everytime he does it I facepalm but it works. Granted he has wasted xfactor but if you tried to punish he gets to kill and if not (because you know he’s going to do it) he has access to unblockables with Wesker (j.L, j.L, j.S).

Man I hate Captain America…

So I read the first line of your post and was like, “Man Cap is so gay, at least this guy doesn’t have to fight against Cap/Arthur,” and then I read the third line and thought to myself, “My condolences.”

Cap/Taskmaster and Cap/Arthur are extra homo, but the only advice I can give you is to not worry about negating projectiles. There are too many angles Cap can attack from while moving forward and it’s just not going to end well for you. If you must negate projectiles, try to chain up so you can negate multiple waves of things. For example, use s.:m: or s.:h: first and then chain into Gustaff Fire or Bandit Boulder with a delayed assist call. This way, you can not only technically negate three waves of projectiles, but you can also cancel either command normal into Bonne Strike to move forward.

Remember, just because you’re not always hitting Cap or because Cap gets away sometimes doesn’t necessarily mean you’re losing. It’s important to realize that he HAS to run around most times just because even though he has so many attack angles, he lacks ways to actually get in to do the big damage combos. Cap also only calls assists when the opponent plays passively, as he has very few safe ways to get an enemy off of his assist should it get tagged in the open. You kinda have to play smart and ballsy at the same time while being patient about the chip you’ll take. It’s frustrating because you have to combine two different styles of play to deal with him (in my opinion), but if you show enough patience along with the willingness to push the appropriate buttons, you’ll see that Cap doesn’t have much to do when the opponent knows his style.

Remember to also grab backflips (please grab them) and to not try to frame trap him too much because of c.:l:. If you choose to frame trap him, be extra careful. Random Charging Starts are also dumb, but only if you block them; stay on the move and make sure to get out of his way. Cap gets a lot of mileage out of his offense when the opponent blocks instead of moving to get out of the way.

Cap is one character I figure should work in Tron’s favor so long as you keep your distance. Most of my success in dealing with Cap has been from tossing some Beacon Bombs from afar with the help of my own projectile assists, compared to trying to jump in with an attack and get caught with Shield Slash. If anything, the best air normal against him might be j.M up close.

Speaking of the Cap matchup, I never really fought cap until that monthly i went to earlier this month,

The link is in my last post in this thread if you people are interested. XD

For Cap you kinda need some form of non projectiles coverage to protect Tron since a lot of beams/missiles just won’t work or won’t hit Cap quick enough to stop his shield slash or charging star. Frank’s cart has been protecting me for the most part but cap jumping back tossing shields is still kinda annoying. Trying to get under him and using boulder will often catch his attempt to throw out shields with the boulder itself acting as a sponge for if he does.

Ooookay new annoyance…Hawkeye…I have no idea where to begin with this. His zoning is just so so annoying especially with assist coverage

So, if I’m reading most of this correctly, it’s better to attempt to avoid the projectiles and just look for an opening rather that contest the ground with Fire and stuffs (Unless it’s the most optimal thing to do at the time). Going to have a few matches against him tonight (I did on Saturday night but we were also drunk so even ABC combos proved more difficult than they should’ve been) and will try this approach.
Thanks all for the help and I will let you know how it goes.

Does anyone have any idea how to fight Chris, Hawkeye and Strider?
I am absolutely dumbfounded and can’t find a way past any involvement of these 3. Strider assist pins down any approach options possible and often just gives the opponent a free combo if they have an OTG and both Chris and Hawkeye are incredibly annoying as cover AND for zoning.
