The Ultimate Magnus Thread. The godlike stuff

Has anyone been getting good mileage out of raw hyper gravs? I’ve been trying to implement them against rush heavy characters to make them think about their buttons, but more often than not the grav won’t track well and whiffs. In the cases of crossup heavy characters it won’t even track behind you (usually leaving you in a REALLY bad position). I’m just about to rule it obsolete… anyone manage to find some viable uses for it?

I use heavy hypergrav mainly when I’m offscreen, like if my opponent super-jumps, it can catch them off-guard. Apart from that though i use it with sent midscreen just to buy some time when I’m thinking about what to do next, because it does somewhat track backed with drones and is obvious, for me anyway people do tend to respect it and won’t press buttons when its out or when they see mags is charging it.

TBH, I dont like doing raw hyper gravs to “catch people” in neutral situation. Too risky IMO. Sure some people may respect it…but they wont respect it all the time. And the ones that knows how and when to punish it = dead Magneto.

It does have its uses like punishing someone doing a super when Magneto is in the air ex:
Akuma super jumps to do a raw Super for chip, Magneto super jumps, flys xx hyper grav, confirm.

Yes, its great as a punish but i fucking hate seeing magnetos just throw it out trying to get lucky.

Anyway, universal confirm off of a sj. hypergrav is j.S xx L magblast

Fuck happened to the attack icons? are they gone again?

People are finally seeing how strong Magneto is with Plasma Beam.

Thanks for this. Most of the time I can see my imputs going OK but either nothing happens or I just addf with no j.L or Mblast, it’s getting really frustrating

A couple of quick questions. 1. Why isn’t there are team building thread? 2. For someone just learning Magneto and a novice at the game, is it better to learn him with drones or missiles? 3. How does a team of Magneto/Skrull/Sentinel sound?

We don’t need a team building thread when we have all these guides and a questions thread. “Is team X good” is pretty much all that goes on in team building threads, so you can use any guide/question thread for that.

And yes that teams sounds great. I believe Nickcam from canada uses something similar, but with Dorm instead of magneto.

As for drones vs Missiles, I’d say drones, I guess, since it doesn’t cover your mistakes as much as missiles.

I’d recommend playing a little with both, but drones is definitely the better choice for beginners.

Only thing I’d say about mag/skrull/sent is to make sure you’re picking a skrull assist that complements magneto’s neutral. I feel like the current meta is point char, assist, assist, and how well you do will rely on how well your point char works with his assists, but more specifically how well your assists work as a pairing if your point char manages to go down. I don’t know how well skrull works with drones, someone with air mobility would probably make better use of them.

In the same breath, if you want to play skrull, by God PLEASE play what you want and don’t let an elitist asshole’s rambling change your mind.

Skrull + Drones is really good. extended combos, safe command grab setups, and the favorite Drones + YOLO meteor smash that is safe.

As for what assist you should have on Skrull, Orbital Grudge has 1 hit of armor, it’s like a Repulsor Blast and Tatsu’s bastard child, so I’d use that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I figured grudge would be the best assist to choose with Skrull. But I don’t really know how to use it with Magneto–not a big issue for now considering I can’t properly play Magneto as of now. And Kanta is spot on about Skrull with drones. It’s by far his best assist. I don’t even believe in playing him point without it. Otherwise he’s just too unsafe-bolts might be the closest alternative.

Any Magnetos with experience in the morridoom matchup know if his forcefield counters are any good vs soul fist patterns? Brief test in t-mode and they seem to nullify both soul fists from the back and the front.

you already know drones is a top 6 assist for magneto on point. some uses for orbital grudge i believe would be more suited for some good reset or cross up situations in the corner. like say for example you get the incoming mix up and you call OG then dash under and fake the grab for an option select. you throw and combo into sentinel tac infinite or go into another mix up.

it’s okay to an extent but it’s pretty ass if your team isn’t constructed with use of forcefield in mind. the start up of the move is what really gets me in practical situations like start of the round vs hulk or wolverine, neutral positioning with an assist. in the case of the latter you should just super jump emd/magnetic blast into a dash into flight to escape the soulfists

@Cheech: RayRay uses it sparringly and superjumps after doing one to lame it out on top of the screen.

i always thought that shit was kind of weird but i like it when you do that and call plasma beam then sj

I just realized that going straight into the hypergrav loop after a corner throw gets you 7 reps (8 if using an assist), builds more meter, and does around 75-100k more damage than any other corner variant combo starter.

I feel fraudulent now, but seriously, why don’t people do this with Mags more often?

I guess its because just HGL’ing is boring, but yeah, it’s the “optimal” choice.

Good to see another Mag Skrull user about. Orbital Grudge is his best assist for Magneto I feel, Its like Tastu with 1 hit of super armor and like a get off the fuck off me type. Can also get another hyper grav rep. Tenderizer assist plays the guessing game of where do I block but scales alot. Best to do from a grab in the corner c.L call Skrull then it begins!. Could also be used like Cold Star Attraction then Tenderizer begin opening them up. Stone Smite OTGs and wall bounces the victim with this assist I’ve not invested time into but could be very beneficial with time put into it.

As said above Skrull + Drones is amazing. You can reset his ground bounce with it but I’m not to sure how to do it. As Kanta-Kun said nickcam is your person to watch for more info on it.

Find out what works and what you like best

Magneto can start the dumb Variable Cross Glich using his cr.M and plasma beam to chip kill.

So I’m looking to get some thoughts from you Magneto players… I’m looking to pick him up for my team but I’m having a hard time deciding on an anchor. I am going to be running Storm in the middle since she’s my main character (even though she sucks in this game T_T). I know that Fanatiq runs Mag/Storm/Sent but I don’t want to go that route for 2 reasons: 1 is that Sentinel isn’t the greatest anchor and 2 is that I don’t really like having to sit back and protect my assists. So these are some of the teams I came up with in theory mode:

Mag/Storm/Doom - Obvious. I’d be running plasma beam. Concerns are that Doom is an anchor but other people have seem to have made it work for them so far. I’m also concerned about DHC synergy from Storm to Doom. Plus side is that he has infinites to solve Storm’s dmg/meter gain issues.

Mag/Storm/Iron Man - I’ve heard some people say that unibeam is better than plasma beam but I feel like the tradeoff is having someone who is even worse than Doom as an anchor. Not sure if the tradeoff is worth it or not. Plus side is that he has better DHCs from Storm. He also has infinites to help Storm.

Mag/Storm/Strange - Concerns are that Strange is out in potential danger for a long period of time. He seems to have some wonky conversions at times too. He doesn’t have an infinite from Storm to solve her meter/dmg problem but his FoF loops seem strong enough to get the job done. Not really sold on him as an anchor either.

Mag/Storm/Ammy - I like the lockdown but my concerns are that she is out for a long time as well as me not being sold on how much it will help in neutral. It’s probably fantastic if I get someone cornered though. She also seems to be the best anchor so far. I know she has an infinite but from what I hear its that it is surprisingly difficult and not practical… therefore not solving Storm’s meter gain and damage issue.

Mag/Storm/Dante - Again my concern is that he is out for a long period of time. Not sure on how useful having a vertical assist is over a horizontal one. Especially considering how lackluster Storm’s whirlwind assist is. I’m not sure if he has any practical infinites or if he can kill off a DHC or TAC from Storm. I’ve also heard varying opinions on how he does in anchor slot.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions please let me know! I appreciate it.
