Plenty of good footage to study of the MU with 4 top Wolvie players(PR rog,Justin,Ricky,Noel) and 4 godlike Magnetos(Fanatiq,RayRay,Tokido,Joker). FChamp sadly didn’t play Magneto much.
I saw a few matches with Wolverine vs Magneto but none that was note worthy saying “Hey this is what you what should be doing” I think there was one with either Quandizzle or RayRay and they did a nice balance of playing the both offense and defense against Wolvie but again nothing worth taking notes on because it was a under pressure moment seeing who would be blocking and what not…
I will still stand by the best way to fight wolverine is to zone him and if you get an opening make it count
To be fair, every notable Magneto player got eliminated by a Wolverine lol.
lol sad but true…I would think as good as RayRay is with magneto he would have tried to play the match-up but sadly he didn’t.
So what do you guys think are considerable bad match-ups for Magneto?
Theres a list a couple pages back…let me see if I can remember it:
Hulk, Wolv, Vergil, …hmm and maybe Zero.
Hulk is in no way a bad matchup, it’s harder in practice than it is in theory, but it’s not a bad matchup and Magneto can keep Hulk out pretty well and it’s hard for Hulk to land a hit on Magneto.
IMO his only truly bad matchup is Morrigan where it’s very hard to rush her down and she can outzone him relatively easily, his Tridash jL doesn’t even work in this mu, and it’s hard t o get in or open up a defensive Morrigan, and once she activates astral vision he has no options besides superjump blocking.
Other Questionable “Bad” matchups where it’s not that hard on paper but hard on practice:
Wolverine/Taskmaster/Vergil/Zero
I agree with leafcolonel… Hulk is definitly not a bad match up for mag… I think mag is too fast for him and if u have a good projectile Assist/drones/missile it shouldn’t be a problem.
I think wolv/task/virg/zero are the worse match ups. Morrigan is also a bad match up, u just have to pick and choose wisely when to get in on her.
Ps. I hate wolv ever since the xmvsf days! I’ve always had a wolv phobia…
Hulk isn’t a bad match up but it’s definitely not as clear cut in practice as it is in theory (personally I can’t stand theory 70% of the time). You have all the advantages on paper but you just have to make sure to play without making any mistakes because one mistake and Hulk TODs you while Hulk, although he has a much harder obstacle, has plenty of chances for mistakes. It’s definitely not a bad match up, but I don’t think it’s nearly as lopsided as one might think.
IMO the bad matchups are Morrigan, Wolverine, Taskmaster, Zero, Vergil, and Dormammu.
Don’t see how dormammu is bad.
The rest i see, but I’d like you guys to explain taskmaster to me, since I don’t play against Task, at all.
Yeah was kind of surprised to see Taskmaster too but then again like Kanta-Kun, I dont play too many Tasks around here.
Edit: I just remembered playing josh wongs task awhile back but I dont remember if I used Magneto during that set.
everyone thinks the characters they lose to are bad match ups.
Taskmasters normals outrange and outpoke Magneto’s pokes pretty easily. See his jump H, stM stH crB. Jump H is one of the most underrated and stupidest normals in the game. And Shield Skills:
Shield Skills might as well be Hulk stH, huge range and huge priority , gives no fucks about anytime Magneto is moving in the air and stuffs any tridash attack or any addf or adf Magnetic Blast. Shield Skills also gives no fucks about missiles if you are playing Magneto/Missiles too.
So that’s pretty similar to the Vergil or Hulk Matchup, you’d try to zone them out and approach behind assists. The problem here arises as Taskmaster zoning deals to far more damage than Magneto due to his ability to confirm into arrows off any hits and the ability to snipe your assists fairly easily. A Disruptor from you leads to 90-120k damage, whileas arrows deal 135k or 400k if he confirms into super(even more on DHCs), jumping M arrows also covers a really annoying angle for Magneto.
Oh, and another important aspect in this MU is that Task kills Magneto off every confirm he gets or even through simply zoning with assists, whileas Magneto generally needs 2 confirms to kill Taskmaster if you are playing point vs point. It’s also risky for Magneto to approach him at the start of the round as his Shield Skills and jH OS’s are very strong.

magnetos zoning is really good against taskmaster though. tk disruptor or sometimes ground disruptor will stop any arrow attempts. also this matchup involves really being able to use magnetos movement to get around the taskmaster arrows eg. superjumping and dashing downforward over M arrows. this means that there is a huge range where if taskmaster does M arrows, he can get hit by a j. H. yes shieldskills can beat out magnetos normals but one should not be going bonkers right in front of taskmaster so as to give him time to do shieldskills. pick your spots and maneuvering around taskmasters shit well will make this not a bad matchup.

This. The only “bad” MU for mags are other S tier characters. Or a better mags
