I need help character crisis. I honestly feel like dormammu is holding me back. so im droping my old team spidey dorm dante.
things im looking for right now are uwt setups, gtfo assists, and decent dhc damage from maximum spider. I spent an hour in the lab today i just can’t get the spidersting crawler assault to combo.
current teams im looking at. spidey viper akuma. spider deadpool skrull. Also maybe we can work in nova somehow. if anyone can pick 2 or 3 teams you think i should try. I don’t know any of these character besides spidey. i want to be able to put on a lot of pressure if not then confirm hits off assists.
If you want to put some pressure, get a beam - plasma/unibeam or a lockdown assist - coldstar/weasel shot.
Dunno if this will help but try just doing spider sting then immediately after press 2 atk buttons. You should cancel into crawler assault unless you hit them while you are still grounded
i swear the god the moment i made the post. i started trying it again and I have the spidersting crawler assault down pretty well. can’t explain it but i just shortened the motions of the dp. I’m still messing around, im also thinking spidey nova coon/frank/.

Personally I don’t see anything wrong w/ this team which has some good dhc options for big damage. If that’s ur team order then u should definitely look into using stalking flare as ur dhc into dorm after maximum spider. This gives u a great opportunity to not only stock at least one to two charges but u have the chance to teleport w/ fierce n attack w/ j.S then place a flame carpet while calling jam session assist. Or you could raw tag Spidey back in after stalking flare n attempt a fp webthrow.
The point is u’ve got lots of options w/ that team. Hopefully ur using darkhole assist n jam session or weasel shot assist. I’d recommend spidersting assist due for combo extension or setup purposes.
Ppl always say they’re at a chrc crisis n want to swap out chrcs. Now don’t get me wrong obviously there’s some team synergy that can’t be denied that r extremely powetful. But the truth of the matter really comes down to the player n how well u know ur chrc.
Tons of ppl will swear up n down that they know how to play w/ their chrc or team but get beat by alot of the match ups that should’ve been in their favor.
First of all do u know all of the basic mechanics n bnb combos w/ ur chrcs? Do u fully understand their normal attacks such as range, frame data such as recovery n if its repetitive? Have you come to see the size of ur chrcs hurt boxes n hitboxes n which moves serve best as whiffs n anti airs? Taking time to learn how to wave dash cancel n plink dash are essential to high level play. Examples are like MH Unknown whos Wesker can get in almost anywhere.
Have you tried each chrc assist in training mode to see what brst suites ur teams composition n style. What one person may use may or may not b for u. How often can u land ur combos w/ out dropping them n how well can u react to hit confirms to come up w/ combos on the fly.
What’s ur team order gonna b? Who’s ur battery, tank & anchor. Do you play better defensively or offensively n could u learn how to do both for when the opportunity aroused?
All these things listed r the foundations to think about when composing a team. Some teams r fine as is but just need a better handle on the chrcs n assists. Nothing stabs more at someone’s pride like when having a mirror match w/ the exact same chrcs n assists then lose to that person consecutively n not b able to analyze themselves to figure out what am I doing wrong?

Jam session is prob best aa in game n has descent start up n nulifies most proj. Also has great combo ext plus xtra
pick up as otg w/ webzip.
Vajra is ok for punishing sj n tries to lock down but can be countered hard. Plus not much in the way of combo ext.
Plasma beam has great range n high duriability for beating out most assist n punishing bad movement or bad assist calls. Great for neutral games plus has ok combo extension. But its start up is a bit slow.
Greyhound is great for neutral game b start up is good. Great crossups n mixups. Combo ext are very good too. It
still may lose to faster proj or those w/ high durability.
EM Disruptor arguably the best proj assist in the game. Fast start up n recovery is great too. Combo ext possible but timing is a bit trickier. Beats out all proj assists in game.
Cold star has great lock down properties for creating mixups consisting of unblockables especially when opponent is in corner. Start up not very fast n range is diagonal down only.
Combo ext r possible but between coldstar or weasel shot, preferably weasel shot cuz of its ability to hit at a better diagonal range n assist isn’t exposed as long.
Rapid slash gives u breathing room by taking opponent across full screen as long as it makes contact w/ opponent. Sets up good webthrow conversions n goood combo ext in the corner.
Spidey doesn’t need a neam assist on his team to win per say but a beam assist can’t hurt it either n beam assists should be based on ur style of play as Spidey.
I actually think plasma beam is better for spider-man than EM disruptor because its easier to hit confirm off of and it has great durability. I think Spidey has a difficult time converting off of disruptor in the neutral. Speaking of projectile assists, I think unibeam is above EM disruptor and that might be the best beam assist imo.
You really think Vajra is THAT bad? I think its almost as good as missiles outside of combos. Speaking of combos, the extension that you can get with vajra is similar to the one you get with disruptor, except its easier.
lol it might seem like I’m just shitting on disruptor, but I think its a really good assist. I just think you might be rating it a bit too high, I would rate it as high as plasma beam or maybe a little bit lower.
Best team would probably be with Doom <-> Vergil. TAC, beam assist and the best anchor.
The problem with Spidey though is that his bad or harder matchups are mostly against top tier point characters. Morrigan, Zero, Vergil and Dante to mention a few. You will also have a tough time playing someone with Strider assist.
For those who mentioned that Spidey doesn’t need a beam, could you explain how you go about your neutral game without one. I want to know how you effectively pressure your opponent to the corner without some sort of horizontal control to cover your approaches especially against good players and teams.
Personally I do just fine if not better with molecular shield assist which creates plenty of pressure n scary mixups. Plus personally I can lp webball from full screen n wave dash in so fast that I’m literally side by side with the webball. Plus tk webballs w/ lp n wave dashes in conjunction w/ webswing n webzips create plenty of onscreen movement for some of Spidey.
If a player learns how to actually play spidey the way he’s designed which is not air or ground webball webzip then webball or airdash n hit n run. But instead learn how to move properly on the ground w/ him in n out of opponents sweep range to setup footsie’s n limit their jumping somewhat while using his normals properly then an assist for neutral game will better enhance the team.
Like I said trial n error, try a few matches w/ out proj assist to see how u do.
The vajra assist in conjunction w/ spidey would almost have to be a bit premeditated. Sure you may get webzip otgs but to score bigger combos off a raw vajra is extremely hard n risky due to opponents who may be baiting the assist. Plus good high durable proj can keep spidey at bay even if vajra assist hits. Sorry I just don’t agree w/ it being a reliable assist especially against strong aaa like jam session n missles.
I have no problems playing without a beam as I had my fair share of comebacks playing Spidey alone. That said, it doesn’t mean though that Spidey can’t play more effectively without one. I’m thinking what assists others use as a replacement for beam. Spidey isn’t an easy character to build a team with so I’m curious. I’m only concerned with making his bad matchups more bearable.
Rocks loses to beams full screen iirc, even with web ball. Spidey is good from far away and next to the opponent but he doesn’t have enough chip game to be a threat from afar and the trajectory of his approach is either slow with air dash or telegraphed with zip and both are susceptible to grounded beam assists. His ground plink dashes are really good but without cover, you’ll just have to block beams and start over again.
I never said I’d use rock as an assist to combat w/ beam especially since it loses to any proj duration above 5. I use rocks when I’m within close range for them to touch the opponent or as a close aaa.
As far as wave/plink dashing against beams w/ spidey it isn’t a prob especially if u perform a fp webswing slightly above the ground but low enough to where spidey’s legs n butt don’t touch the beam thus enabling u to airdash in n cancel into webzip if its applicable. Hell depending on how close u get the fp webswing may just kick the opponent in the head.
Alot of the tech I make mention of is based off my personal exp in all marvel games w/ spidey. He’s got some new moves to use but his getting in approach from the past can still be used.
