The ULTIMATE, Friendly-Neigborhood, Spider-man Team-building Thread

Nova’s Centurion Rush assist extends for Spidey exceptionally well, not to mention the assist is fantastic for resets in the corner, where the opponent is forced in 50/50 of staying on the ground to take the unblockable or attempting to chicken guard into an UWT. However, the reason why Centurion Rush doesn’t provide additional damage output is because the assist itself doesn’t do very much damage with maximum HSD. Besides, Nova’s infinite is apparently one of the easier ones from what I’ve heard so you have all of the TAC bullshit with him on your team.

As for DHC’s, the only bad one is going from Maximum Spider at super jump height, which is actually a very strong DHC off of a raw MS. DHC into High Speed Tackle, but go straight down immediately after flash and cancel it. Then, OTG with Nova Slam and continue into a launch combo. It’s better than most damage that you would get off of a raw Maximum Spider without popping X-Factor. As for other DHC’s, anytime you’re able to combo into a level 2 or level 3 Gravimetric Blaster in the corner, be it Nova played on point or raw tagging into him mid-combo, you’re able to DHC into Crawler Assault for a nice chunk of damage at the end of the combo. From there, you can continue the combo if you have an assist left with a startup faster than 40 frames (i.e. Tatsu, Shopping Cart, Jam Session, Greyhound, etc.).

But yeah, in general, the only bad thing about the synergy between Spidey and Nova is that they hinder each other’s damage potential, due to the fact that neither one’s set of assists provides that bullshit that gives the other the reason why they’re able to put out such high damage off of a hit (Spidey’s multiple web throws at the end of a combo, Nova with Slant Grapple and some ridiculous character on the end). However, Nova still receives great benefits off of all 3 of Spidey’s assists (Web Ball is Web Ball, Web Swing is Web Swing, Spider Sting gives combo extension and sets up for some cool Energy Javelin stuff), while Spidey receives great benefits from Nova’s (Gravimetric Pulse is insaaaaaaaaaneeeeee, Centurion Rush is an overhead assist with a huge hitbox and causes indefinite ground bounces on aerial opponents, Nova Rocket is decent horizontal space coverage, I guess).

I have had the summary for this synergy written up in some random notebook in my closet for months now, but I just need to add a few things to it before I add it to the OP. /laziness

Hey guys, just wondering could firebrand and spiderman potentially work together well in umvc3?

Both are point characters that need teams built around them to be effective. Neither have assists to significantly enhance each one’s neutral nor combos. So for a serious team, no.

for firebrand you want a lockdown assist to get his unblockable bon voyage and probably a TAC infinite character.

are probably his best teams. you’d be using plasma beam as well as it provide a bit of lockdown as well as helping firebrands neutral game.

Currently, my team is Spidey (Web Swing), Iron Man (Unibeam), and Iron Fist. (Rising Fang). My Iron Fist isn’t up to par with the rest of the cast, even though he’s great for meter, and my Iron Man just lacks the mobility (or at least, I lack the execution) for better mobility options. Help?

Any character you think will work well with Spidey I’ll take into consideration. Anything to win, right?

Drop Iron Fist and replace him with Doom. Run Spid/Doom/IM. This way you get to keep IM and you have a more well-rounded team overall.

Opinions on Spiderman/Skrull(smite)/Doom(plasma)?
I would use Sentinel on anchor but Spiderman can’t protect Sentinel while calling drones and I overall just hate using him in general. Skrull is so much fun to use and is much better with an assist to protect all of his unsafe moves. Plasma beam definitely helps Spiderman (would work for the same purpose as unibeam I would assume) and Stone smite is a pretty good otg assist. My favorite of all is the inferno DHC which does metric shit tons of damage.
Anyway, I would like to hear thoughts? Is it pretty viable? Is Skrull/Doom a good shell?

Also: has anyone explored Spidey/Haggar synergy yet?

you should change the order to spiderman/doom/skrull. Skrull is secretly almost Vergil level derp as an anchor.

I would definitely do that but the inferno dhc does significantly more damage than sphere flame. Doom isn’t a horrible anchor, however if I put him second I’m not sure how he benefits from Stone smite besides maybe an extra footdive. Skrull/Doom(plasma) seems to work pretty well as seen by Apologyman. Though better with Drones, Skrull benefits from an assist because it fixes his flaws of none of his moves being safe. Worst case scenario I just safe dhc to finger lasers Doom.

Spiderman/Skrull seems to be very underrated. Has anyone ever tried using it? It is definitely one of my favorite synergies for Spiderman.

I’m actually messing with Spiderman/Doom/Skrull right now. I use missiles instead of beam. Stone Smite actually gives spiderman a lot of awkward options in the mid-screen and it doesn’t hurt scaling much so it’s pretty good. Doing block strings into grounded ziplines -> overheads becomes viable in mid-screen situations because if it hits stone smite will send them flying in your direction also. It can also create goofy left/right mixups since it’s easy to control whether spiderman crosses up if you do grounded ziplines since you can just decide to whiff an air normal to keep the fly properties.

Props to this guy for showing off a little of what Spidey/Skrull can do. It’s pretty neat, I suggest you check it out.
Also I don’t like using hidden missiles as a neutral. Not sure if it benefits Skrull more than plasma beam though.

Doom is second for safe dhc’s. Tac infinites. UWT guard breaks. Also, with spider-man doom you’re suppose to throw into corner and do crawler assault then dhc into photon array.

My main concerns if my damage will be compromised significantly and if stone smite offers anything to Doom. (tenderizer if pretty good for doom, but not as good as a combo extender for spidey)
I don’t really care for Tac infinites much, I rarely use them because most of my combos one touch kill anyway.

Safe dhc’s are very important. Thats the difference between saving a character or not. Tac infinites are important too. You get kills off throws and awkward air to air confirms. Also, anchor skrull is waaaaay better than anchor doom.

But what does Skrull offer to Doom besides a little bit if a corner combo extension?

So Spiderman/Doom/Skrull won’t work after all?

stone smite gives doom some decent mixup options on incoming chars. It’s not his best assist but it’s still workable. The big draw of stone smite especially for a character like Doom is how much of the screen he covers up. A lot of the time you can take advantage of his large attack animation and go for high/lows that can’t really be seen.

I still feel pretty meh about it. I haven’t seen anyone use Doom with stone smite assist and I’m not sure how to make it work. Should I just make Sentinel my anchor instead or will that still not work?

I’m getting a little frustrated with this current team crisis. Is Dorm difficult to pick up and learn quickly?

If you have skrull anchor instead of doom, you can change plasma beam to hidden missiles to still get damaging combos with spider-man and change stone smite to tenderizer. The big problem with that though is that spider-man won’t have a very good neutral assist. I think just leaving the assists the way they are and making the order Spidey/Doom/Skrull is better because it gives spider-man a good beam assist for the neutral and you have access to TAC infinite to get big damage. I haven’t actually used skrull before, I just know that I hate fighting X-factor lvl 3 skrull.

Isn’t skrull torch somewhat safe?

Ugh, this is too much of a hassle for me to really bother with. I’m going to go with Spiderman/???/Wesker because why not. I’ll just put Super Skrull on my reserve team. Who else benefits from gunshot? I know Dormammu does, so I’ll probably be running Spiderman/Dormammu/Wesker, but any other ideas?
