I’m a fan of spidey/dorm in that order.
And while repulsor blast is an amazing assist, it comes paired with IM =( I think you’ll have a MUCH harder time learning IM than nova. For straight out damage purposes missiles, mystic ray and drones are the best assists hands down.
wesker gunshot also
What you fail to realize is that I learned IM a loooooong time ago, actually about the same time that Xero was learning him. I can do the modified Krispy Kreme BnB consistently, which is the one that turns a long range c. poke into a full combo, and that’s pretty much all I need in terms of air-to-ground and ground confirms. In fact, Iron Man is really just a mix between Nova and Sentinel; solid air control and range, *SCARY *high/low mixups due to his godlike ADD, j.:l:, and c.:l:, and the ability to change between a few vastly different styles for the MU at hand. I just need to work on my air-to-air hit confirms and lay off the the :s: a bit and I’ll do just as well.
Also, I’m guessing if I’m getting as much damage output with Repulsor Blast and Dark Hole as Hidden Missiles and Repulsor Blast (both 1Mil for 1 bar), I’d assume that Repulsor Blast and Dark Hole are top assists in terms of damage potential. Mystic Ray actually doesn’t supply as much damage as either of those assists because you only get 2 web throws and maybe a kara sting in between out of it. Repulsor Blast grants you Web Zip, j.:s: land st.:h: xx :h: Web Throw and then the stuff in between before the web throw, while Dark Hole grants you a web zip and j.:s: xx :h: Web Throw. Oh, and they do more damage than Mystic Ray.
I should be able to raw tag after a web throw into the corner towards the end of my combo into Iron and then do Smart Bomb xx Proton Cannon, where I can then choose to DHC to Maximum Spider if they’re somehow still alive, or just keep it in that order so that I can take advantage of the stupid synergy between Spidey and Dormammu. If I get confident enough with Iron Man, I may just actually toss Iron Man onto the anchor slot and run the team that way. After a Maximum Spider DHC to Stalking Flare, I have enough time to build 3 charges and then toss Dormammu onto anchor with 3 charges and put Iron Man on point. I have a stupid amount of options with this team.
your neutral assist is dark hole though. not necessarily the worst thing to have, but not the best.
And I can make it Unibeam without crippling my damage potential. What’s your point?
oh. unibeam is pretty good. it does hurt damage potential sometimes though - spencer utilizes it best with the 80k unscaled upgrapple. … ._.
kajoq is in the same pools as knives, rubeks, nyc fab, and kerahime. !!!
…damn. Thanks for the heads up, lol. Funny part is right when I read this post someone supposedly from Paducah, Kentucky started playing PR Rog on the livestream in AE 2012.
And I meant in terms of combo extension not intital hit, lol.
hey there
i’ve been wanting to put spidey in one of my main teams and i think i’ve found that Dante with crystal assist/Spidey with web ball assist/ and Doom with hidden missle assist work pretty well. basically what i like most is that with a somewhat extensive combo with Dante he builds enough meter for a DHC into Spidey making 900k damage which i think is really good and worth the meter. i want to get some insight on how well this team would work when Spidey is on point tho. hidden missles cover the vertical part of the screen well and gives Spidey a combo extender although you have to time it. but crystal assist doesn’t really do much horizontally besides being an otg assist into web throw or web ball into ultimate web reset. i could switch to weasel shot for better lockdown on the ground but i haven’t found out if i can combo otg web zip into weasel shot. (i’ve been busy with SFxT lately). is that possible? should i not worry about the horizontal space so much and just rely on hidden missles? as of now i have a Dante/Doom/Strider team
i’ve also been thinking about putting him on my Viper with seismo assist/Vergil with rapid slash assist which is good for Spidey. i think that team might work slightly better and i could just go ahead and leave Strider on my Dante/Doom team but the thing is there isn’t really a great anchor in that team. i suppose Viper would be the best anchor but i like her DHC synergy with Vergil. you can do her qcb super into spiral swords, do a ground bounce, hard tag viper back in, and then do another qcb super. and anyway seismo assist isn’t even the best otg assist for Spidey. as of now i have a Viper/Vergil/(still looking for a good third team member) team.
but then there’s my third team Nova with centurian rush assist/ Frank with shopping cart assist. now the idea behind this team is to get Frank into level 5 real fast. just a simple BnB from Nova with that power of the nova force super into a whiffed qcb super into snapshot into Nova assist into another snapshot gets him level 5. although i’ve heard you can do this with Spidey also but you just have to have over 50 hits in your combo. if i can do that, then i’ll replace Nova with Spidey for better mobility and have Wesker as anchor and an otg assist for Spidey.
so yeah i’d like to put Spidey on one of these teams. are there any pointers pro spiderman players can give me here? how do these teams sound with Spidey? what can i do to improve them and how can i make them more effective with Spidey on point? i’m kinda thinking the first team is my best bet as of now but i’d like to get a second opinion.
or do i not know wtf i’m talking about and i’m a disgrace in team making and i should be ashamed of myself and never play the game again? LOL
Lol, you should never be ashamed of yourself here; you’re bringing forth to the table what you have and know of and are exchanging that for what we can provide, which happens to be the sole purpose of these boards.
I’ll be happy read through your lengthy post and reply with a possibly lengthier post, but in the meantime, I need to finish this video so I can get it up for someone that was asking Xero for advice on said person’s Spidey/Dante/Frank team.
Edit:
Honestly, I don’t think Crystal Shot is all that beneficial for Spidey in the first place, and I don’t believe Weasel Shot picks up off of that situation very well. Jam Session works well due to its ability to extend combos and it helps Spidey in more frustrating MU’s, universally-speaking, such as Trish or Zero. That being said, I would feel as if Plasma Beam would work better there instead of Hidden Missiles, although Hidden Missiles would still be quite effective as a lockdown assist and combo extender for Spidey. Idk, I just hate the assist in general so I’m biased as hell, LOL.
You could run either Viper/Spidey/Vergil or Spidey/Viper/Vergil for that team, but I would recommend Burning Kick assist because it should be possible to use it as a combo extender, but it also provides the overhead for the unblockable setup, which really helps Spidey because it turns Viper’s presence against a cornered opponent into a 50/50, where the opponent is forced to choose between chicken guarding to not get opened up by the unblockable or staying on the ground to avoid the UWT. ;O
Ahh, yes, my primary team. I could write for days about this team and why it works, despite everyone’s preemptive disbelief for its potential, but I should save it. I have a video currently being uploaded right now that shows what Spidey Frank Dante can do to level up Frank in several different ways, and the Nova team can do everything that the Dante team can do, aside from the meterless, exchangeless level 4 Frank stuff, but also provides the unblockable 50/50 mixup in the corner, not only for Spider-man, but for Frank too!

Hello! I’m kind of new to the MVC series, and prefer it a lot more than SF. Seems more fast paced and I just enjoy it more. I;m terrible at coming up with a team though. So…
Spiderman. Whatever team I have I want him to be on point. I love playing with him and he just feels natural for me.
Possible seconds:
Dante
Hulk
Taskmaster
Third:
Doom
Would anyone help me build a pretty good team off of this? The third and first are basically unmovable choices unless Doom really doesn’t fit. And for second, if you could help me with a team with any of those three is good, but i’ll take almost anyone there. Suggestions?
Welcome to Shoryuken! I personally say Taskmaster because he has arrows which can help with lockdown and combo extension and I recommend using hidden missiles if you choose to put Tasky on your team.
Thanks for the help!
no problem, but you shouldnt base your decision just on what I said. Other people here are a lot better at giving advice and team making than I am.
Welcome, Mclovin! I’m not quite sure which assist you are going to be running with Doom, but here’s my opinion:
a) If you run Plasma Beam, you’re going to need an assist that will provide air control. The assists out of those three would be Hulk’s Anti-Air Gamma Charge (which is more of a GTFO assist, due to it’s very short startup and super armor), Dante’s Jam Session, and Taskmaster’s Vertical Arrows.
b) If you run Hidden Missiles, you’re going to need an assist that will provide general space control, as well as being a useful lockdown assist in a snap. For that, you can use either Gamma wave or Grounded Gamma Charge for Hulk (that fizzles down to preference probably), either Weasel Shot or Jam Session for Dante (Weasel Shot provides better horizontal control, although Jam Session juts out pretty far in front of Spider-man, so both fair as efficient for lockdown and space control), and obviously Horizontal Arrows for Taskmaster.
I really can’t tell you which character would be best for that spot, since it’s all a matter of preference and personal experimentation, so I’ll leave that to you to answer for yourself.
If you have any questions regarding other potential 2nd spot characters that you are interested in, feel free to post them here and we’ll gladly give you information that will help influence your decision!
Hi and welcome! Here are my opinions on your choices.
They’re pretty solid picks if you ask me. All have safe tag DHCs and good DHC from MS, except for Dante. I run Spidey+Hawkeye+Doom so Tasky works in the same vain.
Hulk carries a strong DHC from MS and works well with Doom missiles. Check how Kuronn does it with his team. Hulk to Spidey is quite tricky depending on what you DHC into though. Still a very solid pick and I did contemplate on using Hulk as a sub for Hawkeye for fun. Assist wise, his gamma wave works quite nicely with Spidey as it controls good space horizontally and comes with high durability plus, it doubles as an OTG.
Dante, like before is still a solid pick. If you’re going for jam session assist, drop Doom missiles and use his beam assist instead. If you like to stick to missiles, get weasel shot for a bit of horizontal control. As for DHC, MS to million dollars isn’t that good as you’ll miss on some hits. What you can do instead is to do a long combo ending in either a first bounce spider sting or web throw to corner. This would allow you to tag in Dante to get cold shower to stinger wall bounce leading to any combo you can extend off it then million dollars to MS. I think I have a combo in my sig that shows the idea along with Doom missile usage in combo extension.
Good luck!
Hi guys! I’m also new to UMVC3 and the Shoryuken Forums as a whole. So I apologize if everything I say doesn’t make sense at all…
Anyway, I want to make a Spiderman team, and one of the teams I was thinking of making is Spiderman (Web Throw?)/Rocket Raccoon (Pendulum)/Arthur (Daggers).
What I was thinking was that Pendulum gives Spidey some protection in the air and moving around in general, and Arthur’s daggers provide semi-lockdown (I could be totally off about this) and horizontal control for both Spiderman and RR.
Any thoughts? Should I change things around, or is the team actually good as is?
Welcome, Leader! That sounds like a super stellar team to me! I still need to mess around with the synergy between RR and Spidey because I have a really good feeling there’s something stupidly amazing you can do with them (i.e. Maximum Spider DHC Big Ol’ Trap thingy, raw tag back to Spidey and Web Throw them off the trap going off into another Maximum Spider… repeat!.. it’s just a hypothesis).
For some reason, I feel like RR would be my type of character, lol…
Check endlesscomboz second umvc3 combo video there’s ideas there
I blame it on Airborne… shrug
that team (spidey/rr/arthur) is cool but it’s not very flexible in terms of x factor / meter since you sometimes want to save meter for arthur, and you always want to save xf for arthur.
if you can play very consistently, the team will be good to you. if you’re a more wild player, stuff like wesker or doctor doom or even dante are all great picks so that you can rely on them if spiderman goes down. if you’re just picking up the game, start out with wesker somewhere on the team. he’ll teach you the basics of general umvc3 strategy with x factor guard cancels, air throws, dashing into normals, dashing into command grabs, etc. learning wesker also helps you understand the matchup VS wesker in the future as well! even if you just hate the character, i think he’s always a good pick.
beware: rocket raccoon and spiderman are above average technical characters. if you’re just picking up the game, i highly recommend you start with other characters first.
Thanks for the advice!
It’s good to know that the team is better than I thought, although it is probably true that the Spidey/RR synergy involves meter that I don’t want to take from Arthur. I also am having a bit of a tough time learning these characters, so I wonder if I should take phantasy’s advice on learning simpler characters instead…
