I’m after a proper, heavy duty Jap arcade stick to play at home. The consoles I have are Saturn, DC and Ps2. I’ve trie dthe sticks at Game Focus on Goodge street…
If I was to buy, say, a PS2 one, and play on DC with an adaptor, is there any lag? I know it’s a bit anal, but if Im forking out 150 notes+ for a stick and an adaptor, I want it to be as close to playing on arcade as possible… any ideas? I want to avoid buying on-line, have to try the stick first…
Get a HRAP, either the Original, CFJ or Tekken 5 ones, well more like the Original or CFJ over the Tekken 5 one.
The HRAP is outfitted with a Sanwa JLF just like Japanese arcade cabs, but it has pretty good Hori buttons. But the cool thing is that for the CFJ and Original HRAP at least, the buttons use quick disconnects so it’s an easy swap for Sanwa pushbuttons.
The Tekken 5 HRAP has the buttons soldered onto the PCB, and the button layout for it is:
[]/\L1R1
XOL2R2
Which is kinda annoying, but you can always change the buttons in game, oh yeah if you are wondering, the CFJ and Original HRAPs have the standard layout for most sticks:
For all the U.K. guys. I live in Cleveland Ohio, and the last decent arcade just got shut down by a chinese food restaurant. But we will never stop playing and we all come together weekly to play. Do not let the scene die, I live in a small town outside of Cleveland actually and there was like me and my friend that actually played, but now we have gotten the tally up to 6. You can get people into the games, just dont let the option of quitting beacause of no question kill the scene.
We have no arcades but one, and it has a broken 3S machine. But that doesn’t stop us from running our yearly tournament, which will be in it’s fifth running this year in July, the Ohio Mid Noon Mass.
I didn’t read the whole thread, just the begging, so I am sorry if I soudn like an ass. I’m just trying to let you guys know that the fight game scene isn’t booming all over America either. So don’t give up. :karate:
There’s one in Ster Century Cinemas, in The Light. I meant to go down ages ago and post up the details of the settings but I could never be bothered. PES4/RE4 taking up too much of my limited spare time at the mo.
Any of you guys go to Vegas@Namco arcade in Nottingham? I passed by there this weekend but I didn’t have a chance to take a look around.
Nottingham is way cool by the way, the nightlife is pretty live and there’s plenty of places to go shopping and hang out. I think it’s a nicer city than London.
Namco at nottingham is cool. i think they have tekken 5 and a 3s in there but I haven’t been in a while. whenever i’m in notts I always try to check it out.
a friend of mine went there recently and he said the people there were really stuck up, like if you weren’t awesome at games people would be dicks to you but i’ve never been there when it’s busy.i hope that’s not true.
anyway i’m sure a few nottingham guys post on here. they can put me straight.
I was at nottingham uni at the start of last year and when I went on a saturday one time, when I had been told was the time when the best players [played, everyone was really cool and friendly. Marvel was the big game there… I would’ve thought T5 and 3S are probbably big now…
thing I liked was that they had everything (not everything obviously), but all the sticks and buttons were ok, and when they broke they got fixed straight away…
Probaby the best arcade in Britain I’d say, no joke!
For those of you that were in Troc last night… was Ryu there? been trying to get hold of him, it isn’t easy for someone like me who is ALWAYS on the move to keep in touch with a dude with no mobile or net access.
I was in Sheffeild a few days ago looking for a arcade cab at Sheffield caterers. Unluckily they’d sold the cabinet I’d been looking for, for the past 2 years.
Where did you get those cabinets from (if they’re your’s).
I was in troc the other week, it was sweet. I hadn’t been for a while (i live quite far away) but I told a few guys i’d be going and they came down and met me  . everyone was super nice and although I couldn’t stay long I had a great time. I had a few challenges on 3s but light kick didn’t work which ment a. no throws and b. I got my ass kicked, lol. dunno if peeps will be pissed us bumping an old thread like this. actually you should head over to neoempire. It’s a UK based site and as such is great.
Sadly UK seems to = London and when you’re as poor as me… and 250+ miles away from london… it’s tough. I plan to hit up London one day, but I need to get a job again.
there’s news of the troc closing down (dunno if you knew this already) apparently it’s being bought out by a hotel chain or something. not sure exactly when it’s happening. peeps have been saying it won’t close till next year and some have speculated that they might keep a few arcades there but I’m not so sure. if you’re planning on heading down to london I’d do it sooner rather than later cos the troc is definately the best place to meet up with people cos it’s big and so easy to find (and it’s got ST, bonus). your right about UK=london, it sucks but lack of arcades (or people to play them!) means that’s just how it is.
are you really 250 miles from london? where the do you live?
Whoops, it was 160 miles. I must have added the 100 for that one special trip we did from north england to london… my bad. But still, over 3 hours just to play a few arcades? Maybe if some kind of future tournament was organized I’d go.
Well, my A levels are finally over, now I wait and see if I get the grades I need . If I do, you Leeds guys (all two or three of you) up for some games?
