the UK fighting game scene

hey guys… went to trocadero last night (Friday). First time I’d played SF in a UK arcade since CVS1 came out in casino time ago. Standard was suprisingly high, especially considering how there are like two SF cabs in the UK these days… for the record, anyone who uses DC sticks or any other Jap setup will find the controls fine, although they take a bit getting used to (bit loose I reckon). Anyway, Im just posting because now me and some uni mates are finished with exams and shit Im going to get back into competitive SF… so apart from Friday Troc, where else has good play? We’re really not that good at all… played 3 credits between us on 3S and only won 2 rounds…

but we’re willing to dedicate my summer to re-mastering the art of the riing dragon fist.

Just out of interest, who here was playing last night? Obviously I recognised Chnkis and Ryan Hart from the Evo Dvds and that… anyone else playing?

For the record, we’re based in russel square central london… there’s 4 of us that play 3S and Tekken 5, though I REALLY like MVC2 if anyones up for it… lol. If anyone fancies a casual game who’s in central, I have DC and PS2 with pretty much every fighting game… proper lack of decent sticks though…

later

sorry for the old double post boys…

mega-lo… is that shit yours? Im well up for buying a cabinet for my university halls in russel square… let me know if your dealing cabs.

For 3s I was there using the blue urien and continuously getting a crappy 2 win streak and then getting knock off lol. There was bare other heads there for a3, t5 and 3s but I cant be bothered to describe manz and who they were.

Troc sucks but at the same time its teh shizzle for rizzle mah nizzle. Peace.

raju… wheres good then if troc is brass these days? I live right next to casino so I pop in now and then, its proper dead. I have no idea why they didnt get neowave, t5, sc2 etc and get rid of 3s and mvc2, its sad to have a place like that like a graveyard. anyway… you going to troc tonight? me and my mate were going to go around 7 if you fancy taking us to school.

Nah I wont be there tonight, infact I probabaly wont be there until later in May now, I got exams to worry about. But after that I’m training to let the true demon out

Go troc forget other arcades, if you are into t5 then I guess you could find challenege at namco station and p2w as well but allow casino that is dry now, but troc is the place to be, I SAY ITS TEH SHIZZLE 4 RIZZLE MAH NIZZLE YOU HEAR!!!

p.s. everyone we have a new contender for best Akuma in UK, this beastly London a3 veteran called Damien is bustin’ heads at 3s now boi!!! Once he learns to parry with traps and shit its gonna be doomsday for the rest of us beware!!!

Laters. :karate:

safe… lol I finished my exams on friday… history at kings is too good. well, give us a shout if any SF related stuff is happening around central, there’s a few of us who can actually play ok at 3S now, we’d all retired after CVS1… never played 3S til this year, its actually well good. I’d really lost faith in the SF scene, but going to an arcade again after so long was sick…

oh yeah, I saw your urien Raju… reminded me loads of my mate Kais playing… although you used the old aegis a lot better.

might stilll pop down to troc and see whats up.

kcl is the gangsta uni! got kicked out of there, shame! does any1 know if there r kof players in manchester n where they play? do same heads go goodge st such as simian, rizza,g, stove n ryan n play kof98 still? The student will b returning 2 fighting games after a 5 year lay off looking 2 do some combos!!!

safe flow… what year were u at kings?

manchester: heard its dead.

I know there is a big North/South thing here in UK, but for all you people that say

“I used to be well good at old school SFII, but then I havent played since…”

It doesnt wash with anyone… everyone knows people on SRK/cornertrap/NeoEmpire etc has had an eye on Streetfighter since day one…

so my advice to you lot who think you can play… practise, come to troc on a friday, then if you’re confident, go enter a tourney…

Ive never been in a tournament myself, so Im going to EVO to find out…

watch Rounders w/Damon/Affleck/Malkovich and you’ll see.

oh yeah… damian is pretty good… an example to all you SFers out there… be patient. whenever you play anyone, win or lose, smile and shake their hand. It doesnt matter, we are playing to learn…

TEAM UK AT EVO 2K5.

btw… Ive been saying for YEARS now that Marvel is the game to play… so can some UK players that play MVC1, marvel 2 (not at las vegas in chinaTown) and even the older ones like COTA, MSH, MSF and XSF start playing?

They have a machine at reading uni, but I really havent seen any skill there (I only go to visit my God brother Alex there, going on saturday after Saints v Norwich)…

also, if any of you like soccer, breakdancing etc, get in touch with seimoon@hotmail.com… he’s social secretary at commonwealth hall… he’ll sort out a PROPER UK casual ASAP.

oh yeah, that Ryu guy (half USblack half Nip), all you lot that say he’s ‘weird’ or whatever… he’s a proper safe guy, and he’s DEFINATELY got natural ability… he’s just TOO old school at the mo… if him and Damian train up me kais sei ‘the new generation’ we’ll be back on top.

BOTTOM LINE: UK OWNS THE WORLD.

oh yeah, whats the ages like on this thread? I’m 21 on may 8th. I see a lot of kids getting back into SF now… I reckon its coming back now…

SHORYUKEN!

mate… Ive had that idea for time… I reckon it would DEFINATELY be a success. Sheffield is too far north though… all the real streetfighter players are further south. I’d say a good location would be around the Birmingham area, though perhaps not in central.

Put it this way, when I turn 21 I get some capital, so Im opening an arcade.

Can I get that in writing? :bgrin:

Seriously though, Brum could use another arcade. but for the most part, it’s Tekken country… Not that I dislike Tekken. I just don’t want to play only Tekken.

And dude, Ryu is a little wierd. Don’t mean he’s not a cool guy though. Not every comment about someone is an insult, ya ken?

^^
another arcade? i didnt think their were any or are you talking about mega bowl?
If their is another one where is it?

Look people if you wanna improve the UK scene then just play your part by starting to make more visits to the arcade/sessions and tourneys (when there is one) to play its as simple as that.

Raju holdin it down, Yeah I agree if you guys can make your way to london do it. I know most of the people on these forums are probably outside london, so I don`t really expect those guys to come down.

But the guys that live in london, you lot should come down to the arcade and try to improve and be apart of the scene. Bassventura is a perfect example,he came down and didnt know anybody at first but made an effort to make himself known and now is trying hard to help the scene whenever he can and improve his game along the way. Its people like him that make the scene what it is today.

But its the tournament turn outs that make the most difference. Supporting the tournaments when they happen is very important. If people dont show up to the tournaments, they slow down and end up with low turn outs and people lose interest, competition stays the same and people don`t get better and end up playing the same people over and over. then tournaments just stop.

I know there is no tournaments right now but neoempire is going to be doing a big street fighter 3 3rd strike tournament real soon so stay tuned for that. www.neoempire.com for details on up comming events

yeah elec 1,was at kings 3 years ago at guys. still around great dover st now and then and at fuse on thursdays. manc is shit, aint seen a kof machine up here, only sf3. Just started doing combos again on snk vs cap chaos, 1 broken game but its got kyo n iori. is troc the place 2 go instead of goodge st, n is my man steve tame about?

Goodge st has real shit sticks and is always empty, also some machines have buttons missing ie SFA3 - missing m.k on 2p side, CvS has only 3 working buttons on both 1p and 2p side.
Troc IMO is the best place in london at the mo, on the vs cabinets we got SF3 3s, SFA3, some kind of guilty gear. There is also a ST machine in the house but the sticks are a bit pony but still worth playing. :karate:

GG’s to everyone I played yesterday :encore:
Raju
Chunkis
The Chef
Ryan
Hatim
Damien
Unikronn (ST)
Also GG’s to anyone I played who’s name I dont know. Massive shout to Rio aka Michael, cool guy.

My apoligies to akUMAR and Pulpasis, sorry that I arrived an hour late. When I got there I found out you guys left

Oh wow, so another person that goes to kcl? Yeah quite a few players in the troc either go to k/ucl, I personally just finished my first year of law there. Exams came ridiculously early but now I got 5 months to myself, which is…

Anyway, you’ll recognise me as the pretty mediocre ken/ alex, been there a few times. Chunkis n Raju will know who I am.

As for the Terry Bogard guy? To be honest the guy really weirds me out a bit, and that laugh is just so…dances with the devil in the pale moonlight, if you know what I’m getting at.

Anemis I may have even seen you in there, Next time you are there ask raju or chunkis to point me out and I’ll ask them if you are in the house. I’ll be there this friday agin from 6pm onwards so hopefully I might catch you.

I missed your invite yesterday, but I was involed in some long sets with Sifu V and Darkmaster Jeff and the connections were sweet so I didnt wanna leave, anyway I’ll play you soon be it on or offline. P

Anemis: yeah I think I know who you are, good games mate.

I wish people came to troc on a Sunday sometimes. =(

It’s not like any of you have anything better to do on such a day! =p
