The UK fighting game scene

Birmingham gaming died when Dayvilles arcade removed all their games - Namco @ Nottingham is probally the only arcade comp you will find in the midlands (it had SF3, Alpha3 KOF and Tekken 5 last time I was there, which was about 18 months ago.

Tekken @ Starcity might have a bit of action.

Thats cool man nothing like the good old SF2 like super turbo, Ive been playing NGBC and XI mostly well thats whenever I get the chance which anit much.

Ive PM’ed you my details if you wanna chat, its not everyday I meet someone into SF and stuff round here.

I know one other dude outside my cicrle of friends thats into fighters as well, thats about it.

True, its Tekken or nothing really, the probably comes down to access to games, tekken is widly available arcade and ps2.

3s didnt even get a pal release form what I know on ps2, its only just now NGBC has come out so I thought people might pick it up, but I guess not.

Edit:

Yea that sucks, you would think Bham being a major city things would be better, they used to hold Tekken nights at starcity I dont think they do it anymore, this was time ago.

Yea I heard about Nottingham, should probably go there one day.

Being in japan was so cool I could just go to the arcade right now a play someone on KOFXI or whatever, here sucks oh well, thats how it is.

This is terrible news. When the namco wonderpark closed in london in 1999 it killed the community in the capital and almost destroyed the scene completely. Even today we are still left picking up the peices from the closure of the wonderpark.

although ive never been to namco in nottingham maybe its time i paid the arcade a visit before these new changes take effect. Ive heard a lot of great things about namco in notts but never had the chance to visit. 15 people around the alpha 3 machines you say? wow... I cant rememeber the last time i saw 15 people around the alpha 3 machine in london.

Anyway, part of the neoempire plan was to hopefully get around to all these arcades in the Uk and start running tournaments and ranking battles in them. We wanted to make people feel that london isn`t the only place to play games in the UK. But this is very bad news for us and for the UK community as a whole.

It would be a shame if namco were to close down it`s main arcade in the midlands, maybe namco have a new location in mind or perhaps the sunvally arcade will keep all the machines. We can only hope.

Neoempire has some contacts with namco so i will do my best to find out exactly whats going on with namco and what we can expect in the next few months.

Kireek keep us all posted if anything changes.

Hi all,

Unfortunatly the arcade day has been cancelled. But all is not lost, there will be a replacement event happening on the same day in yates`s bar in harrow. The details on the event and how to get there can be found here

http://www.neoempire.com/images/arcade.jpg

That’s a shame… I’ll still try to make it but might be more difficult now.

Two questions: what will the games be played on? Will the prize draw for the PS2 still be on?

Because the event is going to be outside the arcade all the games will be on consoles, Including alpha 3. The prize draw wont happen this time, but will happen at the next arcade day, and the arcade day will make a come back sometime in the new year, probably at the end of february.

I understand if you cant make it to harrow, i know for some people travelling from outside north west london harrow can be a bit of a trek. However for people who come through central london to get to harrow there is a fast train from marylebone station(bakerloo line) to harrow on the hill, its called chiltren railways. It takes about 10-15 mins to get to harrow and should knock a good 30 mins from your journey, your oyster/travelcard will still be vaild on chiltren railways.

Anyway i hope to see you at the event, but if you can`t make there is always next time

Hope you can make it.

Cant understand

I dont mean to change the subject, but you seem like you can help me. When Ryu does a hadoken, he says hadoken. When he does a shoryuken, he says shoryuken. Do you know what Ryu says while he does his Tatsumaki Sempuu kyaku? I’ve been trying to figure out for years.

That is one of lifes great mysteries! But he blatantly says ‘Bird neck neck bird neck.’

I’ve come to the conclusion that some of “tatsumaki senpuu kyaku” is silent letters. I’ve never quite figured out what it says though, someone who knows some Japanese should be able to help you out…

TATSuMAKISENPUUKYAKu
The "u"s aren’t silent, they’re just not emphasized.

I believe the lonely ‘i’ is silent too.

Hi Guys!

The once feared empror is still alive (the brain is dead but the heart is still working :p).

I’m glad to see that you guys are still alive (Chunkis I will never forget our walk in london subway hahahaha…)

Damn it’s been now 5 years that I came to London for the UK VS FRANCE tournament!

How about coming back to Paris guys???

There will be a big tournament, I won’t bother you with that but if you want more informations (we have now a really big 3rd strike fanbase, around 100 players, from very crappy to Mymosa’s level of gaming).

Take all good care of yourselves

P.S: Raju I would love to play vs your Urien one day ;).

Edit: Damn F for APEX?!!! My picture IS OLD!

It’s hard to tell sometimes, but you’re right.

There have been a couple of foreign tournaments advertised at Neoempire.com. It would be best to post a link the Forthcoming Events section.

Nah man he says ‘Id like a burger!’:wgrin:

Hey Wael, its nice to see your still around dude, hope all is good. Yeah I went to Paris not too long ago myself, the level there is excellent!

Omg, Wael!!!

Still alive i see lol,

It`s been a very long time. I hope your keeping well and looking after yourself. I hope all of your exams have finished by now and you have finally graduated.

The last time i saw you was in paris, i think at christdas house. I rememeber you teaching me a lot about 3s and how to travel for free on the paris metro :wgrin:

After playing with you, i went on to win a few 3s tournaments in london and i also played on the UK team vs Japan, so all your knowledge went to good use :wgrin:

But i don`t play much anymore, not since 2003. But i would love a reason to get practicing again and show these new kids how we used to play.

There are many players playing 3rd strike now and it has become a very popular game, I think now would be a good time to have a rematch between the UK and France.

If you recall the 2nd time the Uk played france we were ahead 7-3 before having to postpone the tournament due to 4 dreamcasts blowing up LOL.

Anyway the UK is up for doing a 5 on 5 anytime. If you guys make a tournament and give us a date we will bring a team.

Au revoir!

I couldnt make Harrow… how did it go?

someone forget to click on the box and then move? :lovin:

Good news people, in one of my earlier posts i said that Nottingham Namco has been taken over by sunvally and was worried by the fact that sunvally dont have arcades just fruit machines. I went in today and the new area manager has said that they are keeping the cades and they have money to spend on the place (but whever that means new cades or just a refurb i dont know.) The only thing that will change in the name Namco to sunvally.

Hey thats good news!!! Keeps the scene up north alive. Fighters Day 3 was pretty good, had loads of matches in NGBC, XI and CvS2 (especially). Can’t wait till Arcade Day.
