I thought I would reopen this thread as it was once very popular here. A lot of players have come and gone over the last 6 years, but i hope that those players have not completely vanished from the community or from the srk forums.
Srk used to be the main web site for not just american street fighter players, but for players all across the globe. It pioneerd the fighting game community forward and kept it alive by leting people know that there was players out there who were still playing and still supporting a once flurishing community, that most people thought was extinct, until they found srk.
I am making this thread to let people know that there are players that are still playing games in the UK. I hope that the players that used to visited srk are still around somewhere, so i am leting people know that the fighting game community is still flourishing and still going strong in the UK. I know a lot people thought that because cornertrap closed down the entire UK community closed with it, but its not the case, a new site has started up with some of the same people that worked on cornertrap and its name is Neoempire.
It`s the main UK web site that deals with all things gaming related.
But for all the UK people that visit srk, this thread is going to be here to let people know about everything thats going on right now in the UK and hopfully bring back some old and new members back into the community.
Yo Chunkis… Yeah, the UK scene is really blooming right now. It’s previously been in a bit of a rough spot, but right now it’s picking up more than ever. New players are emerging, events are happening and the community’s finnally getting the recognition from arcades that it deserves. I can honestly only see good things for the UK scene and it all starts now.
I’ve seen a lot of you guys videos on youtube and such, I know you guys are serious. I really enjoy the commentary by Golden Gunman and whoever else… not quite Rockefeller, but good none the less.
Chunk, I saw the vid on youtube of your grudge match with Naz… has that been resolved on ‘good cabs’ and if so is there footage? Hopefully even more NeoEmpire stuff will be posted up. Hope you guys can come to an American major soon. It looks like the UK and France are getting hungry… hopefully more international play can come of it.
Seriously Neoempire is a god send for us! There a loads of media available (mostly in the Media section of the forums). I too would love to go to a major US event sometime in the near future.
UK people, new seasons of Ranking Battles for 3S, Guilty Gear this sunday, Arcade Day also in December (featuring Hokuto No Ken) and Super Versus Battle in Janurary. The scene is buzzing again
wow i didn`t expect people to reply to this thread so soon and had no idea gunman or demon dash even came to these forums enough to see this thread.
There was once a strong following of UK players on these boards and most of them it seems have all just faded away, hopfully some of them still come here and will find this thread.
Saotome Kaned: I dont know you, are you a moderator on the srk forums? If so can you sticky this thread, because the last time i had this thread it was a sticky here, and it was extremely popular, it was at the top of gaming discussion for over a year, until i decided to close it. Well now its back and hopefully for good, i hope to see some old and news faces emerging back into the community.
Grits’N’Gravy:The match between myself and naz was not really a grudge match, we had to play off for 3rd place in a ranking battle, it just so happened that before the tournament we had some beef on the forum, so just before we played off for 3rd place, one of the guys recording decided to make it an unoffical grudge match.
And for the record, the monitors we played on had lag. I came to evo in 2k4, it was very good, i would like to go back again, and am sure a lot of europeans would like to do the same.
If you want to see more movies of UK players visit neoempires forum, there is a media forum with lots of media from various tournaments and casual play from the arcade and console tournaments, but you will have to register on the site to access movies in the media forum, or you can just head over to the media page on neoempire and download movies from there, you don`t have sign up to download the movies from the media page
yeah the arcade is still open, and is going through some refurbishments. The players have stuck a deal with the owner to buy all the equipment, ie sticks, buttons, arcade pannels and even the games, but the arcade owner always refunds us.
The arcade scene here is slowly starting to pick up again and hopfully within the next year it will be going strong.
Hey Chunkis!! Ah well you probably don’t remember me but I used to go to the Ranking Battles at Namco world, at least 2 or three of them anyway (I used Rainbow Mika once).
Great to see this thread up here! I really thought the scene had died. I went to Goodge Street the other week and bumped into Gary (he of the mean A3 A-Guy) and he was saying how there hasnt been a ranking event in like 6 years. Is this not true then?
Anyway there are a couple of UK heads I want to get back in touch with for some gaming sessions: Paul Lee and Stu White (aka ‘Bem’). I actually have Paul’s number so it shouldnt be too hard to get in touch with him (although I hardly stand a chance against his Sak/Vice/2Sagat on CvS2, I remain to be convinced he isnt the best in the country in that game!!) but Stu I havent been in contact with for ages and I don’t have his number anymore.
You out there mate? Probably playing VF anyway I guess… but give me a shout if you read this.
And shoutouts to my mate Dave in Bristol holdin it down with A-Fei Long and X-Adon!
Ok I’m off to visit that link now… exciting news, great timing on this thread I was wondering where everyone was. Props to Middlekick, Chunkis, Richard (A-Gief and A-Dhalsim tearing up the RBs), and all the other players much better than me who gave me the shock of my life when I first saw them play. Heheh back when I used to think Cody’s dodge was manually imputted… :wgrin:
EDIT: and yeah, it’s too bad cornertrap went down. It was always my first port of call for news and stuff. Shouts to Greyfox!!!
Lebowsk1: Of course i rememebr you, although i am so crap with names, I do rememebr who you are, your the only person who used mika at a ranking battle, you used to crack everybody up with your insane tactics. You actually inspired a lot of people to start using mika after that, middlekick ended up making her his main character, and still uses her today. He made a very nice video all about mika, it`s over at combovideos.com you should check it out.
Well there hasn`t been a street fighter alpha 3 ranking battle for about 5 years, but there has been a lot of 3rd strike ranking battles, which took over from the alpha 3 ranking battles back in the day, now there are tekken, 3rd strike, guilty gear and super turbo ranking battles in casino almost every week. Chances are if you pass down casino on a sunday afternoon you will find some kind of ranking battle going on.
Well the scene for alpha 3 has been dormant for a long time, but the alpha 3 ranking battles are going to make a come back in the new year and hopefully will bring back a lot of the old players.
Its a shame the ranking battles ended when they did, because the level of play was starting to get really good. But its nice to know people like you are still around, which is why i reopened this thread.
There is an event on the 17th of december called arcade day and there will be a street fighter alpha 3 tournament, you should come a long, most of the old alpha 3 players should be there.
