The UK fighting game scene

Wow Chunkis, that’s a great read, thanks a lot man. I’ve seen the Middlekick combo vid and cannot wait to see his Mika in match-play. The closest to those combos I have is the repeated headbutts juggling act (still can’t get on with V-ism).

Anyway I checked out that site and I’ll be at the next event in Goodge Street arcade. Gonna sign up and register for it. Awesome raffle prize btw, definitely wouldnt turn down a free PS2. :woot:

You’re doing Alpha 3 tournaments (again)? You better still be doing them when i get around to going (a couple of years from now.)

…please.

Oh dear, that scrub?! Haha, we share the same opinion, I havent played anyone better on CvS2 than Paul. I cant think of him and CvS2 without screwing my face up. I haaate that guy!!!

Which makes me wonder why this was considered for stickiness, since that thread is still alive, and is in the right place for something like this.

But I won’t get into this argument, because it concerns no one that has posted in this thread.

Do you know if he’s coming down to Arcade Day on the 17th? I saw him own a few people at Fighters Day 1 then just got bored a went to HSF2, lol. It would be interesting to face him or see him against Essa - s at Neoempire, he’s really good.

I spoke to him the other day and seems he’s quite busy up until the new year. If he’s not at the 17th he’ll be at the next one. Also said, and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying this, that he’s focusing on Hyper Fighting these days and is rusty at CvS2. But hell, surely wouldnt take him long to get back into the ‘groove’ (no pun intended). He plays Ryu in HF btw and is of course very good at that too.

Looking forward to the 17th though, should be a blast.

GGXX/ was the shit on Sunday.

That is all.

Yeah I know about his preference for HSF2 over CvS2 from KneelB4Me. I actually met him at Fighters Day 1, safe guy.

Just my 2cents here, as of today Namco Nottingham has been taken over by sunvally amusments Namco are allowed to keep the name for the next 3 months but thats it. I have no idea if sunvally are going to keep the arcade or not but other sunvallys i have been to just have fruit machines and thats it. It would be a shame if it closed down as there is a fighting game scene here (just last week there were 15 odd people round the alpha 3 machine.) Anyway i wil post again if and when there are any changes.

Does anyone in the UK take NGBC seriously? or KOF, and by KOF I mean XI not 2k2, Im no expert at it either but there dont seem to be any reason to step up if nobody is playing it.

Since its available in the UK now I wonder if anyone picked it up.

Last fighter’s day I believe maybe three people played it… 2002’s still the hottest game…

I personally wouldn’t bother with KOF XI/NGBC unless you are moving to London and want to go to Troc. IMO you should stick with 2k2/'98.

On the other hand, it’s a shame nobody plays Maximum Impact 2. Game’s quite good.

yea its too bad 2k2 is ok, I know most people on neoempire consider 2k3 n XI trash, shame I think XII will be a dope game to but everyone wants too play 2k2.

Edit: Maximum Impact 2 is a good game but people dont play it seriously if at all, atleast in the UK, ive never heard it get mentioned much.

Yeah, I’m playing NGBC and a short amount of XI and I’m preferring them to 2002 but that’s just me. MI2 ain’t bad, but it’s not a game I’m gonna take seriously. I just enjoy a good mash session on it.

You only have to go to Trocodero on a Friday to see how much XI gets rinsed. Problem is 90% that play XI at Troc don’t participate on the forums as most of them are oriental dudes that mostly hang around within there own circles. Next time I go I’ll educated them about Neoempire.

2K2 gets play often at Casino Arcade, but 98 is generally played more. However as soon as new sticks get put in I can see 2K2 being played more.

In terms of NGBC I don’t think its that popular. Maybe more people will get into it now that its readily available.

I’m happy to see that there is a UK scene,Shame its all based in London:sad: Is there a scene in the midlands?

Rob

Man thats pretty messed up . I hear from other people that Nottingham’s got a pretty decent scene there.

Yea Me

Yea I hate when people say the UK scene is Flourishing, when actually they mean London.

London is not the UK.

Outside of London forget it.

What game to you play dood? If you say Tekken im going to cry, Tekken has alot of following at StarCity, although I havent been there in time, I dont actually play Tekken but some of my friends used to go there.

Thats about it really.

Theres a 3s machine in wolves although again I dont play that game, and I havent been in that arcade for time, more of fruit machine place.

Im a big SFII But I will play anything :wgrin:

The only fighting game scene I know in the Birmingham/Bristol area is all based on Tekken.
