The UCLA thread

BTW, in case you haven’t found out the hard way yet, Hyper Games is closed until New Year’s pending a change of management.

Is the UCLA arcade open today?

N

Even though I’ve never posted here before, I’m going to miss everybody at X-cape. Hopefully I’ll be back by fall. A scrubby Sol and a scrubbier Dizzy signing out. Merry belated X-mas and a Happy New Year.

How about today? Anyone? Bueller?

N

I know of only one Sol+Dizzy at X-Cape during Fall '04, with whom I went on a hours-long Dizzy-v-May marathon one time.

:wonder:

/me squints really hard

Is that you…?

Anyway, take care, and see ya down the road.

:lovin: (tryin’ to learn #R Jam now, too)

Hmm … Sol vs Ky and Dizzy vs Testament? It might be you. Playing Jam makes me want to tear out my laptop’s speakers. See you around.

Sup y’all.

SVGL has like 2 people who play GGXX.

Oh yeah, to all those who know him, Yui will be around in UCLA next week. He still plays the same CvS2 tactics from before (roll and throw/super with Yamazaki, dash and super with random characters for no reason). If you see a weird looking Asian guy with a goatee who spazzes and sweats a lot from playing, that’s him. He also plays a scrubby ass Ino

Kick his ass in CvS2  Oh yeah, don’t fall for dash into throw. Or dash into super.

What got me grumpy was that my family’s planned-by-parents roadtrip to Canada and back took me within spitting distance of Sunnyvale (the city) last Friday. I’ve never seen SVGL and would like to see the place. Or point me to pics archives of it.

I’m pretty close to starting cvs2 in earnest, with a R4 Iori.

I hate fighting I-no. She has weird attack trajectories. I want my untechable dolphins.

BTW, what about SSV players? Or has SSV suffered from chronic existence failure at SVGL?

To those willing and able to travel to the Long Beach area: Regency Fun Center has a six-tokens-per-dollar rate going Mondays-Thursdays. However, on my last recon (yesterday), GGXX, all MvC2, and the CvS2 machines were in disrepair. The CvS1 machine was off, the 3S machine I don’t know about, SC2 looked fine, T5 was crowded, SvC:C is dumb, and SSV was intact. I just wish the place would fix the machines in a timely fashion.

I remember that guy. I think he used Kyosuke a lot too. I’ll be sure to greet him with a little something something.

SSV is an SNK game. Obviously it doesn’t exist in SVGL. They don’t have a machine. Not like it would matter. It’d probably end up being Galford versus 1 billion Mina/Yoshitoras.

SVGL is located on the corner of El Camino and Wolfe. It looks just like any other Golfland. They might have a website, I’m not sure.

Pretty much the only game they play is CvS2 and MvC2 though. Occasionally 3S. Although people are trying to convince them to get a #R machine.

EDIT: Yeah, Yui did use Kyosuke. And Kim. Dash throw with Kyosuke is too good.

Don’t forget to play against Yui’s Yamazaki … and be dazzled by how often you fall for his roll super. hehe.

He mixes it up now. Now he rolls into drill super and sometimes rolls into the anti air super. You can’t tell if you should block or jump straight up :o

He also dashes in and does that too. :amazed:

Rimururu gets no love :crybaby:

I found pics of SHGL. I have now discovered the mysterious golfland which I visited in high school to help my sister’s boyfriend’s car or something. Now that I have put name to location, I know why I never found it again since. :bluu: Anyway, I wanted to know what SV’s arcade looks like in comparison.

I don’t think there’s enough of us GG people at UCLA to convince management to get #R. I may actually have to resort to using my laptop for my #R fixings. But I get the impression SVGL has even fewer GG folks, so… I dunno, feel like traveling across the grapevine to Rowland Heights :bgrin:.

P.S. I found SVGL’s web site, claiming “the hottest new games are here”… maybe I should call 'em and ask if they have #R :wgrin:.

If you ever want to play #R, I have it on my laptop and can bring it with me sometime (no arcade sticks, only PS2 converter things). I haven’t touched a Samurai Showdown since … II? Or maybe it was III. MAYBE I’ll get into that game …

Oh goody. That’d save me the terror of installing and setting up Windows. And this is the third time I have need of a random PS2 pad sitting in my backpack. I am so getting one.

SSV is a snail’s pace compared to GGXX. Or at least that’s how I remember it. I haven’t played SSV since X-Cape moved it from the big-screen with the screwy controls to the small-screen with the screwier controls, way back in… June '04, I think.

Edit: After SSV’s demise, I saw Yumi practicing Ky’s charged Stun Edge FRC and thought that was cool to try. Shortly after that, I saw someone random-select May and saw dolphins :woot:.

Sean (white dude from ucla – he plays cvs2 mainly), just started to play GG. Someone teach him how to play , or just beat him down when you get a chance.

Looks like Yui couldn’t make it after all. His friends who were taking him to LA ditched him at the last moment :stuck_out_tongue:

But he’ll be there in a few weeks.

Who is Sean using? As long as he’s not using Ky, I think he’ll do fine.

He uses Sol. I’m trying to learn I-no.

Just look for the guy playing GGX2 like it’s CVS2 and getting smacked around!
