I think its a shame that capcom has to nerf a well made character that was hard to implement correctly for a poorly designed come back mechanic.
Without XF dark phoenix is pretty much as strong as she should be. She should be fearsome and she should be the best character in the game since you’re defending her the whole match and using 5 bars to get her.
Without XF she is not nearly as absurd and she suddenly has some pretty strong counters (anyone with a longish range good chip dmg super, storm dorm etc.)
That comes with the whole ‘reality altering thing’.
Just like Thanos could rearrange his molecular structure in an instant thought. While, stupid crazy world destroying powers create a “OMG” factor I really, really don’t like them or find them interesting. It is my biggest gripe with all things Marvel. “Well, there is about 500 people that can destroy a world with a thought, but somehow the universe is still intact!”
You can have interesting high-power battles and people without it involving planets exploding.
It all depends on the writer. My problem with comics. Wolverine has been so buffed in terms of his power, he is a Mary Sue. Then again Dark Phoenix was also a Mary Sue, but that was the whole point of the story. Humanity vs. overwhelming power. Teach a omnipotent being emotion, and Dark Phoenix was the outcome.
But anyways, always expect the hero to always have that ace up their sleeve. And whether the writer has a extreme hard-on for the character. Or in Wolverine’s case, make him the most popular character.
No, For whatever reason Thanos cannot lose his individuality or be altered or manipulated by reality altering (power stealing) effects. Thats the one thing I never understood about his powerset some shit just dosnt work on him at all.
Looking for spoiler tags and cant find them but if you read Thanos Imperative you know he cannot be killed at all in his current form and is much more powerful than his previous incarnations.
IG Thanos. Remember that. Specify that. Otherwise, he is just a thing with Nova power level usually who can’t fucking die.
And the time Phoenix beat Galactus was when Galactus was not well fed. And Galactus is nowhere near the top in power scale.
And Storm/Magneto are upper level alphas. Phoenix, Iceman, X-Man(before he got depowered), Rachel Summers, Vulcan, Kid Omega, Elixir, Mr. M, and two others I cannot name at the moment as well as Hope(bleh).
Ok then… By stories comics, game stories, Viewtiful Joe is pretty Fu**ed up as he is an actor, so he would really have no chance against Phoenix, nor any other mutant or altered human, so why to put him in the rooster… Fighting games indeed are supposed to have tiers, and definitevely Phoenix is an S Tier character, above the others S-Tier characters, in fact she ir rated **G **any player above 3 years can mash buttons with her and win sporadically, she is cheap as hell, in fact some characters can counter her, but what if the characters in your team cannot, you are pretty fuc*ed up, so you have to change your team ?
In my game experience you have to have 3 good teams …
1.- The one you like
2.-An anti phoenix team
3.-A phoenix team
so you will play acordingly to the situation… this is ridicolous but it seems accurate
have you seen ridicolous fights when dark phoenix fight dark phoenix … can you say thats a really cool fight ?
So… Galactus is actually a pussy? lol Man, this is what happens when ya stop readin’ comic books( I haven’t read one since the early 2000’s).
Thanks for the info though, it really opened my eyes.
So Pheonix should still be powerful because even though I don’t play her I’m afraid she’s going to become unusable. With all the meter stealing mechanics, xfactor normalization, and her one action per jump she is going to have to work just as hard as other characters/team combinations to pull out a win. I am upset. Also, there’s no such thing as being mid tier after a rebalance.
LMAO for the sake of this thread though I say we dead it and comeback when Red Gargolye, Vergil, & Phoenix Wright teams are shitting on everyone and 1000 threads get made because of it.
Infinity guantlet thanos was basically god. Look up the Thanos Imperative to give you a good scale of his power level now. The original Quasar “Marvell” had more power than you can shake a stick at (Destroying planets on a whim altering and creating his own galaxy. Killing elder beings ect ect. Thanos showed up and man handled him.
I don’t think this is really true at this stage of the game. Meter build is so fast in this game that it’s virtually irrelevant that other chars “can’t” use meter. Beyond that, a Phoenix in the game before 5 meters is fearsome if you can’t trap her. She can easily built any meter she doesn’t have, and if she goes goes dark before the other characters die, they can use meter as they wish with no consequences. Phoenix’s handicap is pretty overstated for players who actually know how to play their other two characters. At worst, you force your opponent to burn meter to get to Phoenix, and if she dies you get free reign over meter again.
I read TI.The Thanos Marr-Vell fight could of went either way. Thanos has the power to kill the unkillable now. Thanos was given the ability to kill those who could not die but on power level similar to Nova. He just can’t die.
Nah, there’s another option: game-weakeningly dumb. Phoenix is just dumb in every conceivable way. Capcom’s attempts at balancing her are hilariously short-sighted. XF, especially XF3, makes her draining health completely irrelevant, and meter build being so easy means she can get healing field in no time, making her low health of little consequence. This is why nerfing her health in UMvC3 is so silly. What difference does killing her in 5 hits instead of 6 make? The problem wasn’t killing her when you get a hit; it was getting the hit in the first place. Perhaps the greatest example of Phoenix stupidity is that two Dark Phoenixes are indistinguishable from one another when in play at the same time. Come on, this shit isn’t canon. Use some common sense. You never heard of a blue flame?
I have no problem with strong characters. I prefer a game with many strong characters and playstyles as opposed to a game that is balanced through homogeny. MvC3 gets this about 75% right: there are many viable characters and playstyles, but keepaway/zoning are weaker than they could be. The problem is that the parts that are wrong are so egregiously wrong as to significantly weaken the overall play experience. I would be far less anti-Phoenix if there was a difficulty of use appropriate for the level of power she wields, but she doesn’t. Wolverine doesn’t, either, but at least he plays by the same rules as every other character with regards to life and death.
Phoenix basically adds nothing to the game and takes several things away. She weakens the game from a competitive perspective, she provides disproportionate frustration from a novice’s perspective, and her (and to a similar extent, Wolverine’s) auto-pilot ease of use for general effectiveness cheapens the value of more intricate characters.
Because the game was rushed out the door. That is painfully obvious, XF was so broken you would have to be a idiot not to realize it. I mean look how fast patches came out. The game was still in balance/polish stages. So technically we did get a beta version as a home release. ANd we were goign to get more patches, but the hack happened and alot of companies lost tons of money. UMvC was the smartest decision they could have made as a business.
