Hey I’ve been playing Joe/Tekka and here’s the VAR combo that I use

2A(hold),5b,5c,3c(hold),j.b,j.b,release A,66,j.b,djc,j.b,release C,66,qcf+P

that’s the joe part, the VAR into tekka then continues thusly, feel free to substitute the character of your choice’s air combo

hold 2,j.a,j.a,j.b,(2)8c,(2)8c

does around 28 bil like that, and more if you add a 2a,5b,5c,236a BBQ at the beginning

The timing on the VAR is a little tight, so if you’re having trouble, put the qcf+p where the C feathers are, it becomes a lot easier, but you lose about 1bil damage.

OK big post about recent things.

1)Counter combos. Off of a mid-screen counter you get grapple or 2c otg for free, with baroque you get a bit more. The counter combo I have been using is a slight variation on my feather combos. Looks like:

counter hits > baroque [hold a] > walk forward slightly 5b catch > 3c[hold c] > j.b > release a feather > then finish the combo depending on meter you want to spend or corner proximity.

Damage numbers:
-----------10% red life // 20% red life
no meter - 9,200bill // 13,400bill
1 meter - 12,200billl // 16,800bill
3 meters - 16,150bill // 20,000bill
(a-grapple otg = 4,000bill dmg)

  1. Not a big thing, but I started learning Jun the swan assist combos. Basically something into 5C > 236a > jun hits > 5b > 5c > 3c > things. This small addition adds considerable damage to all of my Bnbs (and plants one of Jun’s bombs on the enemy). My mid screen no meter combo doing between 19,500 and 21,500bill depending on the starter. This also pushed my corner lvl 3 combo to 42,000bill. I think I can do better though… (she also helps out the counter baroque combo too!)

3)After using baroque in the exact spot where I was using my Jun assist I started get rather crazy numbers. 20% red life baroque in the corner yielding 48,000bill and 52,000bill with assist loop added. Keep in mind this is very basic use of baroque and I am very confident something better will be found.

I also have a question for you guys - What are the knock down options after joes supers and specials? I’m interested if the opponent can tech roll after joes level 1 connects or after his 236a.

EDIT- I approve of those feathery combos yourmother. I didn’t even consider using VAR right there. People do know that standing A hits low with joe right? and it does more damage then 2a. Or am I missing something?

hmm I really need to get a stick, I think I can incorporate your feather combo’s into my saki assist combo’s, I see no reason why 236C->hold A-> run up-> B->3C(hold C-> air bird shuriken madness can’t work. In fact I just checked it, and it does work(it’s actually not nearly as hard on pad as I thought it was going to be, although a bit uncomfortable). I can’t do anything super technical with the bird shuriken loops on pad though, nor do I WANT to learn how, so I can’t test how much my assist into 236C into bird shuriken loops do compared to yours(jun can do the 2366C assist combos as well).

I’m actually not even sure HOW you tech roll in this game(i just kinda hit buttons as I touch the ground), but as soon as I play this with other people I’ll test it out if it hasn’t already been discovered.

edit: how much meter does VAR cost?

Yeah actually I just like the hitbox on the 2a better. It feels like it stuffs more things, and goes a little farther, although that could just be my imagination.

The main thing that I’m loving about him though is just that so many things just work as blockstrings. 2a (hold), 5b, 5c , 236c , release a already has 4 seperate hits that can realistically catch somebody. He’s so hard to punish.

EDIT: BTW, no real tech rolls in this game. You always wake up at the same speed, and you usually get to choose which way you roll just by holding a direction, no button presses. Check the basics thread, I think there should be more detailed info there and I’m not going to go into it here cuz it’s mad off topic.

I haven’t tested it in a match yet, but saki’s assist seems sweet for tick throws, actually assists in general seem like they could make for awesome tick throws. I’d ask if that was common, but throws sucked badly in the last iteration didn’t they?

did anybody else know that joe can cancel all of his special moves into shuriken? (not the counter though)

GRRRRrrrr that sucks about the counter, but that would have been mad broken. I could use the counter as a whiff cancel, then throw another shuriken and pressure them some more.

Still, you can cancel the others with shurikens… This guy is going to be a huge problem.

So…Joe’s bird missile strike hits OTG. I’m wondering if besides the chun Li combo posted earlier there is a way for other characters to combo into it?

Very interestingly, you can use a blocked bird missile to attack with a V.counter and get it in a combo, which is amusing.

NOTE: This does not work in the corner. You need Polimar to push them away for the :qcf::snkc: to hit. If you are in the corner tho just skip the :qcf::snkc:.

I’m also aware you can make his air combo flashier but for times sake I made it simple. I just wanted to point out how to combo his :qcf::snkc:.

Also you can add more hits and damage if you baroque after the first :qcf::snka: and do the ground combo again and/or use :hcb::2p:.

Pac Strife’s combo is annoying as hell because of the second shuriken toss. If you do it too early after the two j.Bs it misses. I’m trying to get it 100% too because its definitely BnB material due to the fact that it requires no assists or baroque. I leave out C feathers for now because I feel retarded when I hold down A and C and try to continue. So just incase you’re having trouble and wanna get used to the timing, stick with A feathers since they have enough hitstun for the combo. I don’t know if the damage that you miss out on is that big of a deal due to scaling but it could be…

Not the same as Ken’s level 3 at all, they are completely different moves. Also, it only summons Ken if you’re using a male teammate. If you have a female teammate, it will summon Jun the Swan to help perform it

I haven’t tested this yet, but during a match after I performed the Bird Missile, I performed the lasso move and it successfully connected. While Joe shot them on the ground the explosion from the bird missile occurred but it didn’t stop the animation of Joe shooting the downed opponent. As I said, I haven’t tested it more but I thought it was interesting.

I’ve been using this combo, too. It should work in the corner-- just backdash while Polimar assist lands all those hits, and then you can go for the launch.

Another awesome thing to do with Polimar as an assist:
(ground combo), 236A XX 623+2 attacks (The Bird Missile super)~P (for V.combination with Polimar car drill).

As the opponent’s character slowly staggers to floor, Polimar’s drill car will hit on the first go around OTG while Condor Joe’s gunship shots also hit OTG. Polymar will come around and opponent either gets hit, blocks, or escapes. If they get hit, try doing Condor Joe j.623A/B/C (THEY ALL HIT OTG AS WELL). Try to keep opponent on the ground for that missile drop (which also hits OTG and creates semi-launch that you can probably combo after it you don’t get hit).

Works great on single opponent or opponent with assist!

I think Condor Joe’s lasso attack, when it hits, acts as a grab. When ever characters get grabbed, all of incoming attacks (like assist) are ignored until the grab is over. During the grab animation, you can mega crash to escape.

I’ve done this a few times now in my matches, and what has happened is the bird missle DID hurt the opponent when they’re downed during this move. It did not hurt joe

I can’t get the shruiken cancel to work with Wild Lasso, either, which I was looking forward to :frowning:

I guarantee you it’s character specific.

He’ll always summon Ken unless his partner is Jun.

been using him with megaman V, zoning and good combos :tup:, prob tonight me and a friend are gonna record some matche, is thats the case Ill post them here (unless someone opens a video thread…)
