The Top 5 Most Balanced Fighting Games? updated with results so far

should i count this as a vote of “not balanced” for this game? if so, i need just a little more explanation as I don’t know the game at all.

XvsSF is a game where pretty much the whole cast has some crazy 100%/200% combos. So basically whoever lands the first hit, regardless of character, can win from there. infinites for everyone! oprah: you get an infinite! you get an infinite! you, you, and you get an infinite!

While a great game, I wouldn’t agree with it being balanced.

Na. I don’t know how balanced the game is, but even assuming it is, the balance of SSF4 is a lot different than “everyone has a practical infinite” balanced.

SSF4 characters do not have broken shit. All of XvSF do, since everyone can do an infinite. It is balanced because everyone can do crazy shit.

Yeah I agree with what you’re saying. I just imagine a lot of SSF4 players don’t just appreciate balance, but also not having broken things in their game.

does Zatch Bell Mamodo Fury count?

broken (in this context) is defined by complexity, option trees and tools.

so uh, yes. a character from a “broken” game would shit all over one from a more traditional street fighter.

I was talking about in the context of xvsf. Everyone is dumb, but then again, everyone is dumb.

If you dropped mvc3 sentinel into sf4 he’d obviously be broken even though he’s not broken in his own game. If you took a character with sidestepping and let them sidestep in a 2d plane that would be broken. You can’t just mix and match, games are self contained.

The dropping in argument is totally irrelevant to the conversation.

the tier list for the worst character from the best is like by maybe 1 or 2 points? Spiderman being the best and Phy being the worst. Still it marvel super heroes should be on the list

yup, pretty much this.

Fucken WWE ALL STARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS

I’m throwing in my vote for Vampire Savior, simply because (despite what other people will tell you), every character is viable in tourneys and several of the top tier players in Japan AND America both use characters that are not Top-Tier characters. The only horrible match-ups involve Jedah vs Talbain and basically ANYONE vs Anakaris. However, the only reasoning behind this is that Anak lacks the basic tools given to every other character (he can’t Pushblock, throw, air throw, air chain, GC without meter yadda yadda yadda). For as bad as 3S Sean is, he can still parry, throw, red parry, UOH ,cancel into super…basically every basic system tool that the game allows him. So imagine Anakaris WITH all those tools and the match-up chart suddenly changes. Every other match-up is winnable and any amount of work put into any character can net you wins even against the top tier characters. This holds true for many FGs, but with Vampire Savior it’s even more possible.

Also gonna toss in my cap for Virtua Fighter 4. You can literally pick any head on the screen and do well with them. Tiers don’t mean much in that game at all. Knowledge of the system mechanics (juggle system, weight of the character, moving around the screen, frame punishes, staggers etc etc etc) is what’s more valuable in that game instead of character selection. I’ve seen slow ASS Jeffry win some tournaments before.

I don’t think a games difficulty should determine whether or not its balanced. After 16 years, the worst characters are still placing top 4 with the exception of mummy. ssf4 being infinitely easier doesn’t even allow for that much balance.

I don’t mind the huge curve, I actually prefer it. If someone has put in 16 years, I want their experience to create a separation between us, its only fair.

and for the record, most of the GGPO VS players have played oouchi, the best jedah in the world on GGPO regularly and I’ve never seen 1 player from the US beat him in a set for years. We all play different styles, rush, zone, turtle, keep away and he basically beats all of us down.

edit: sup beats! still on that mvc2?

AH3 then garou. for most balanced.

ST being balanced is a joke. It has a character that is so good that if he was not banned, almost no one would play anyone else in the game. How is a game balanced when the community has to go out of its way to make it so? Once you get past Akuma you still have decidedly shitty characters like Gief or Fei Long, characters so shitty that people make a big deal out of them getting anywhere in a tournament when played by like, the best players out there.

Hyper Fighting is a more balanced SF2 game, even with Ryu being really damn good. Plenty of the rest of the cast was also pretty good… offhand I remember Guile and Blanka being pretty rough. Sucks to be Bison, though. Hell, HDR is more balanced than ST, and Akuma is still pretty stupid in that, if less so than ST.

Sam Sho 5 Special is fantastic. X-Men Vs. Street Fighter is definitely balanced because, as someone else has stated, everyone was broke as hell. I’ll also give you Super SF4, that was very well done.

KOF98 UM Final Edition actually looks pretty balanced, though I haven’t had the chance to play it so I couldn’t say for sure. UM was pretty solid outside of the better-than-everyone-else tier of Krauser. I’ll also throw my weight behind UMK3 for reasons already stated.

idk akumas not a real char to me since you gotta put in a code to use him. its like useing wall hacks in counter strike, ya dig

u might as well say A3 is balanced cause everyone has a infinite

Cmon everyone, lets get some votes for SF III 3rd Strike up in here

:karate::karate::karate: I vote Street Fighter 3 : 3rd Strike :karate::karate::karate:
