The TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES) Thread: TF Revelations

same to you onReload. CD v Don match up is tougher than I thought. One-touching turtles is the only saving grace lol. Need to run headspin & throw mindgames/oki if we get another set in the future.

This game…is insanely fun and I’m always learning and gathering new info about character matchups. I’d seriously consider quitting every fighter for TF if there were an HD remix with some bug fixes here and there. Wishful thinking but whatever lol. Also, netplay does this game no justice. Thankfully it’s not a combo/execution heavy game so it’s not too big of a deal.

did you guys get hamachi worked out? netplay with that massively improves it.

If not I’ll make a tutorial with screenshots in like 10 minutes.

Nah, we ended up just doing “hacked netplay zsnes” + direct connect.

yeah that would help a lot. i mean i was fine with DC but for some reason had trouble with basic motions (i could just be stupid), and it would be nice to have that security

I gotta do a few things, I’ll do it when I get back. Should be up by 10:30 my time.

Then you can just quote me and put in the first post.

Also that post needs combos and stuff!

ok, it wasn’t just me then lol. Was digging my thumb into d-pad and mashing LP for C.Sparks w/ Dome. I’m up for anything that would improve the experience a bit though.

Dude, I’m too lazy these days lol. If you compile some stuff though, I’ll gladly clean up the OP a bit and throw up credits etc.

EDIT: Ok just read the OP for the first time in a long time and it’s hella excessive and bloggy lol. I’m motivated to make some adjustments now…

LETS OPEN A NEW THREAD… (Now that Saotome is not watchi… banned)

No seriously, lets clean this up and put a link to the playlist that ThatSoleGuy did. That would help a lot.

Also quick question:

There was no TF at Evo this year? :frowning:

ATTENTION!!!

Made changes to OP! Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Still needs some cleaning up though.

The TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES) Thread: TF Revelations

If anyone would like to contribute to the OP or make some corrections, please post up in a simple format that easy for me to cut/paste.

I don’t think so and I can honestly say that I’ve never seen or heard of TF being setup at Evo (I would mess my pants)

I recently started playing this game again too. Just sucks I have no comp. Maybe I’ll get in on the online.
I’m trying to play Chrome Dome, 'cause I like command throws. Is he considered to be good though? I kinda feel like he has good tools on paper, but that they’re just not quite as strong as they should be.
I also like Wingnut. It’s so cool that his dive leaves him super close in stead of bouncing back like a certain native American.

sorry about lack of netplay tutorial, computer is being stupid! Will try to get it up tonight.

I think Chrome is very underrated. Only matchups that feels really bad is Raph because he blows up your neutral jump game and your zoning game, but you can still tod him. lp throw TOD and OS EPD corner TOD are both very powerful and he does a pretty good job of controlling space in neutral. BNB leading to a knockdown and his ability to control space in general with his fireball, long limbs, and divekick really make him pretty strong. If pressed I would say he’s the 3rd best character, but I can see how people would disagree. He’s also hard to play gameplay and execution wise.

Anyways gonna start working on the netplay tutorial and I’ll throw up a couple of more preview vids for random stuff I’ve been working on. Will post with more suggestions for the first page when I get back.

Hm, interesting. It’s just that his divekick seems a bit limited, in that it can only be done when descending after a neutral jump, correct?
And I’ve found that his fireball goes under many of the other projectiles, which is nice, but then his recovery is so long that he’s usually the one who ends up getting hit, which is not nice. Also, I’ve been unable so far to combo into his fireball. Everything seems to cancel into it, but it doesn’t look like you can combo it.
I probably haven’t put enough work into him though. I still ike the idea of an electric pile driver and the range on that thing is delicious.
I’ll watch that whole tutorial later. Good thing they pointed that out about the game speed though. I think I’ve been playing too slow, it felt rather sluggish.

Divekick isn’t really an offensive tool other than using it for safejumps. You use it to advance vs. other fireballs. I really only throw a lot of fireballs vs. characters that don’t have projectiles, Leo and Arm.

Comboing to fireball is possible with cl.hp xx spark in the corner, but it’s impractical because of difficulty, the range you have to do it at, and that his cps chains do more damage/stun and can lead to a knockdown. If you get a raw jumpin you might as well just go into cl.hk and take your dizzy.

Step 3: Extract the .exe
=================

========================================================================
Note: Once the .exe is extracted feel free to open it and configure it how you like in terms of buttons, resolution etc. Learn the menus! a .cfg and a .dat file should be created for it on launch that will save any settings as you’ve left them. This would be a good time to get whatever game files you need.

Step 4: Install Hamachi

Short directions install this.

Long directions below, not exactly needed but can be helpful.

Spoiler

First you need to make an account with logmein who runs hamachi. go to https://secure.logmein.com/ and click create an account or try it free

Fill out your info.

Once you’ve hit continue hamachi gets kind of stupid and the new website is kind of unintuitive on where you actually download crap.

If you are lazy/think their website is dumb(add a computer???) here is a direct link to the installer.

=============================

Step 5: Setup/Join a Hamachi Network

Once you have Hamachi installed click Network(you can change settings like your name under System -> Preferences). Network gives you two options.

Create a network lets you make a network that allows you to interface with other players you invite or who know the network exists.

You can set the name of the Network and a password to restrict people attempting to join.

Clicking Join an existing network gives you a similar dialog box

Fill out the Network ID and Password to join the network.

ALL THAT WORK and nothing has really been done yet. However notice that you should have an ip address above your name in x.x.x.x. format and anyone in your networks should also have their ip address available to you. This was the point the whole time!

================================
Step 6: ACTUALLY NETPLAY

Now that you have Hamachi setup you can get gdlk netplay. First designate who is hosting and have their Hamachi IP address readily available. Make sure both players have the exact same version of the game you are intending to play.

Click NETPLAY, THEN INTERNET

The hosting player should see a screen like this until a player attempts to join.

Once a client joins the screen should change to a lobby. You can type back and forth and if the game is exited you will be kicked back to this screen. Messing with the settings can cause desynchs and crashes.

Click Load then find the game you are looking for and PLAY. (T is the hotkey for typing to another player.)

FAQ:
Q: I GOT THIS SCREEN WHEN TRYING TO CONNECT, HELP

A: Make sure you typed the IP address in exactly how it is displayed in Hamachi. If that isn’t helping try switching who the host is.

Q: ZSNES crashed and now it won’t open, what do I do?
A: Delete the .cfg file that was created when you first ran zsnes, this should allow the program to open normally though you will lose all of your settings.

Rough up, will improve here and there.

It looks good Veserius. Keep it up!

nvm. almost done!

Okay as good as I’m going to get it tonight. Anyways with hamachi and that version of ZSNES you can get very very good quality netplay so I think people should try it out. I’ll probably be up for some games tomorrow if anyone wants to test it out.

I’d like to know (in layman’s terms if possible) what exactly makes Hamachi + ZSNES netplay better than stand-alone ZSNES netplay. I’m also willing to run tests myself on the wknd, if not sooner.

nice work.

Hey Hanzo, you mind if I steal your marque and post to the OP for some flair??

I haven’t used 1.42n but this is exactly how I would schedule my Tetris Attack matches with people. We should get a Hamachi network setup for future online TMNT matches. Veserius I wouldn’t mind testing this with you sometime tomorrow. Just let me know when you’re free.

I honestly don’t know what it is about hamachi that makes things better. It might be my router(which is ass), but overall I’ve always had better experiences using it for netplay on various things across 3 different routers.

If I understand this correctly, Hamachi is used for 2 main reasons. One it is easier for most people and two it avoids the need for port forwarding. Since Hamachi is a VPN, it basically allows people in the same network to connect as if they are right next to each other (hence the reason it gets around port forwarding).

For most people, ports aren’t an issue as you can control that from home on your router (plus I don’t think you need to set anything up if you use the default settings in ZSNES) but when I was in college, I had to abide by the settings the college used for their network. As a result, some of my games I connected without issue while others were impossible. Hamachi’s VPN helped mitigate the problem when I played games on the SNES with my friends that weren’t local to me.

It is more complicated then that but that was basically my issue a few months back when I lived on-campus.
