The Tallahassee Thread: The only things served at Logan's are beatdowns

I knew you’d pick that line out, lol.

And yep, you’ll be blowing me up in KoF for a hot minute  Don’t worry, though. I catch on quick.

GGs to Matt and Drew: this is the best I’ve seen Drew play in a quite awhile.

Watching Canada Cup has got me wanting to play Sagat… man… those boys made him look so hot.

Hey I forget is throw still f+C/f+D in 13?

@ Logan I wasn’t talking to you about the good game bad game thing. I was mainly referring to us newer players fool.

@ Mike G Fuck grammar

@ Adam LMFAO

@Chris A Really fun games tonight Bro, imm going to come up with a game plan for rogster, soon enough haha. No but really that was great, thanks for helping me iron out dudz

Hold on a sec, Im one of the few people in town who give a shit about MK and you’re gonna tell me that there’s no respect for it? With all do respect Nick, I thought about Axing MK from the tourney lineup due to the poor attendence the past two tournies, but because there’s a little bit of the scene, and the fact that I really enjoy the game, im trying to keep it going. Again with all due respect, Did you really go out of your way for this tournament? you advertised on facebook and SRK yes, but did you try to ask me if I needed anything for the tourney? offer advice, let me know whatsup? No not at all. IM one guy, I have other things to do outside of fighting games, its hard for me to follow everything that goes on when its bad enough I got to hope and pray that enough people bring xboxs with DLC for marvel, or hope no one uses Jill and shuma. DLC and patches are something that really make things hard on TOs. ANd since im a broke college graduate, I have to rely on the community to help provide things for the tournament., I don’t even own an xbox, I provide my ps3 for MK (which special thanks to Chris A for giving me all the DLC). But what did you provide to the tournament besides posting on like 3 threads on srk? Nothing, so sit down and don’t go off on how the tourney was ill prepped when you did nothing to help prep it.

DOn’t get me wrong, am I trying to shun the blame? NO not at all. Its completely my fault for not having the two ps3s updated to the latest patch, but its an easy thing to slip up on, especially when the game isn’t played nearly as often as I would like it to be played. So before anyone tries to call me out for not taking the blame or make excuses, Im not. I take full blame and learn from this mistake. But the aggressive nature of your post is somewhat insulting when you didn’t do a god damn thing to prepare at all. If you feel that strongly about the MK fighting scene then what happened should not have drained your energy to keep playing, but should have pushed you to help make the scene better. If you don’t like something, then change it, don’t complain and not do anything about it, that shit just annoys me.

The next tournament is going to be on Dec 10th. The game line up is going to be MK UMVC3, SSFIVAE(last hurrah) and a mystery game) The thread will be up tomorrow and I will post a link in here. You want to make the scene better, then i expect you to collaborate with me on the damn thing, Help me to make a better scene and community. I’m only one guy, and therefore its easy for me to make mistakes and slip up on details. IM not perfect. I’m going to be talking to gamescape to see if they would be willing to provide at least one setup for each, just to help the community out. Lesson to be learned here: if you want something done properly then pitch in, i’ve been doing tourney’s for 5 years now and Im still leraning, and half the time I’ve been doing it alone. To those of you who’ve helped me out running the damn thing during many a smoke break and to those who have brought setups, thank you I ask for your continued support to help make this scene grow. To the rest of you, if you want this shit to be better, stop complaining and help me, end of story.

Hey my XBOX is always open for use at whatever tourny buddy, just lmk. I appreciate the fact that you even put forth effort to host tournaments, obviously no one else does. Mad props! And keep doing what you’re doing buddy!

I’m going to respond to this first because because it’s the first thing I noticed while seeing how much crap I was gonna have to read. It takes a lot more work, but you can still be pretty damn good with a small scene - you just have to put in the work. Look at Adonis. Frankly, we didn’t give the guy the time he deserved with BlazBlue but the dude goes and gets second place at a major, beating Tokido and two of the best players in the US and being 1 round away from first place (twice, I think). I don’t even know who he was playing with during all the time leading up to Final Round. I know it wasn’t me, I barely heard James or Matt talk about the game, so I can only assume it was at most Kyle and Jay. Hell, when I went to Evo and played Melty Blood I was stealing games from top players on the regular…and that was only having played James and occasionally Matt since that version came out. I still got exposed of course because I was lacking a lot of character knowledge, but if nothing else I know MY character very well and get pretty far on that alone…would’ve probably been farther if I had any form of netplay.

Now to spend the next hour reading everything else.

frick ron you read slow man

Quit picking on us blind folk.

He was online quite a bit with it, I believe. That and Adonis is just the fucking man.

MK has online play, and last I heard it wasn’t that bad after the patch that made it better.

Every tournament needs a mystery game. I may make an appearance just for that. Make it a good one!

I’ve heard Adon would hop on PSN with BBCS and have a 50 win streak in rooms.

That’s true, but I feel like Adonis had more comp (in both quality and quantity, sorry MK dudes!), competent online play, and previous experience with older games in the series/style. You can get better without a lot of firsthand competition, but you may be pointing out the exception to the rule. Also, Melty Blood, well…I don’t know what to say about them doujins.

@Chris A: Man, I am so down to play that game if you’re actually going to stick with it.
@Drew: All you gotta do is ask if you want the community to jump together and help. I know for any niche games I’d want to run, I’d have a setup going (ST!). Getting the tourney games up to date is something most of us can pitch in to help with if need be, and I don’t think there’s a single person in town that plays any game at home on an unpatched setup, so there’s no excuses for not having a console with the latest stuff somewhere.

Wow… just found some new Rogster technology…?

I’d always been wondering how to improve his high/low mix up potential, and OH smash isn’t exactly safe on block… but if you FADC it, apparently, it leaves him positive on block. FADC on hit gives him enough frame advantage to link a Lvl 2 focus… which leads into whatever the hell you want (dash ultra). Hmmm… a bit more meter than I’d like to use, but hell, for the damage potential, just might be worth it.

Mike: man, as long as the comp is good and its an engine that I don’t burn in effigy, I’ll play whatever.

Mystery Game: AH3 GOGOGO

Ewww.

If it’s the game I think Drew might run it will be a hella mystery!

@MikeG: got KOF13 for ps3 in my amazon cart right now. Just waiting for some appropriated Amazon funds and I will be in business. Also, dat OST!

This is hardly an excuse. When you are responsible for an event you cannot come out with reasons like this for issues that arise. When you make a call for people to bring their console to an event, everyone who did is liable for any patch/DLC related issue. The PS3’s belonged to you and Chris A correct? If this is true, then you two are responsible for, at the morning of the tournament, booting up your PS3 and downloading any patches necessary. The only exception I see is if the patch JUST came out and you don’t want the players to be thrown off by the changes.

No. No. No. No. Fucking NO.

This was YOUR event that YOU organized. If there is a problem with YOUR event then THEY can complain to YOU about what happened. As much as this is a community event, YOU are still responsible. If someone doesn’t like the way something occurred, they go to YOU to get it fixed. Unless you plan to form a committee for tournaments then all grievances need to be directed at YOU.

Effectively, tournament goers are your costumer, you want them to have a good time so they’ll come back and your event will grow in the future. Nick does not work for you. He doesn’t need to do anything besides let you know there was a problem with the event, and he did just that. His involvement with the issue should be done so long as the issue is taken care of. Don’t pass the buck to the players because you fucked up.

Edit: To be fair, you were pretty harsh, Nick.

MIke J shut up lol. You’re trying to act like Drew is running a business and receiving some sort of profit from his customers. He just happens to be the person stepping up and organizing a tournament that we all want to take part in as a community. Don’t bring this gay “I have to argue with drew about everything” crap to this level. Drew doesn’t have to run tournaments and we don’t have to ever have tournaments, and you saying some stupid garbage like this trying to complain about the way he ran it or that none of us have any responsibility for making the tournament good, but it all rests on drews shoulders, is just retarded. If we all want the community to grow and/or tournaments to be fun, its all of our responsibility, and you need to realize the crap you just gave drew is retarded.

If you honestly agree with the garbage you just posted and its not just some strange desire to argue with drew and/or everyone about random things, then you are lame sir.

I can not argue against this, but you can’t use this argument for a sloppy performance! It would suck too, I love tournaments!

It’s unfair to NOW say “You should be helping Drew with this” when he’s been doing this alone without asking for anything other than small favors like running a bracket during an emergency etc. (based on memory, correct me if I’m wrong!)

I’m only saying that if he’s going to be doing this alone, don’t call people out after the fact for complaining about something he did wrong when he was running it. Yes it can be improved with our help, yes we should, but don’t bring it up NOW to defend what went wrong THEN.

I’m not personally complaining about how he ran it, only his defense in his actions. As far as I can recall this is the first time Drew’s directly asked for a collaborative effort from us other than
