Hey I’m going to toss in a statement albeit hella late - but its been on my thoughts. If we ever have anything even resembling a competition, fuck that, even casuals in MK I expect there to be a bit more respect for it and those of of us who are at least mildly competitive with the game (I love the game and take it seriously, despite how others in this city feel about it.) We had one of the best Kung Lao’s in Florida come up from Jax and we were playing on a version of the game (yet again) that wasn’t completely patched. My character in particular was completely fucked for its absence. If that shit went down on SFAE or Marvel at a tournament people would shit a brick. The whole nonchalant attitude about what took place at the tournament on the 29th took a bit of energy out of my desire to continue playing. I smiled it off, but it really took the jelly out of my roll last Thursday. I mean if you guys don’t give a fuck why should any of us put forth the time to get better? I went out of my way to get people up here for this so we could play some new blood and we lucked out with Mike Crespo. It doesn’t reflect well on us if we don’t have our shit together. Downright embarrassing truthfully. I’m thankful a tournament was ran at all, but if you’re going to do it, it needs to be done right. And that’s all there is to it.
If we can’t agree on this than I’m done. I do play the game for fun, but I do also want to be competitive. That’s why I pushed to get Jax players up here. I don’t expect everyone to share my same enthusiasm but please don’t shit on my game. I ask that out of courtesy.

Err, maybe you’re taking things too personally? Also, best not to call out the entire Tallahassee community over one TO’s mistake (was there a new patch that Drew didn’t update to? Lack of DLC characters?).
I don’t want to speak for Drew, but being there the entire time exactly what was so nonchalant about it? Five dudes showed up, we had two setups for the round robin. 3SOE got one setup for a 5 man round robin so I don’t think it has anything to do with not respecting the game. I know Drew really likes it!
You’ll never get competitive in this game because not enough people care to play it (in Tally) and the online play is abysmal.
As far as the game being fully patched, it’s unfair to compare that to AE or Marvel. Both of those games get patched once in a blue moon, while NRS is constantly trying to balance and patch MK. This is kind of a pain in the ass for TO’s (especially when their stuff doesn’t work right on 360), and the low expected turnout probably didn’t stir up a lot of interest in Drew to make sure you guys have the perfect version of the game. How many people came out for the last MK tournament we had? Exactly.
Nobody is shitting on the game, but realistically you have to already know that it’s not going anywhere in this town.
I mean, one of the first mvc3 tournaments we had at gamescape was running on the unpatched version of the game (sentinel 1.3mil health, etc.). It’s not out of disrespect for anyone or the game, it’s just stuff like that happens when we’re at gamescape and have limited resources. You want to make sure it doesn’t happen? Bring your system with your patched version of the game would be my suggestion. I definitely had my xbox with AE and patched marvel.
As did I! :tup: It’s just something I do now for tournaments at Gamescape. You can’t expect them to keep all those 360s updated for fighting gamers that come in extremely rarely. I really don’t even understand why they let Drew host tournaments there (not saying this is Drew’s fault, I just don’t know anyone that’s hosted there since Geoff): compared to their hourly rate we are basically in there for free, we swear and get rowdy in a family friendly establishment, a lot of people don’t clean up their shit when they’re done, etc.
I think IN GENERAL our tournaments could be a bit more organized. There’s been times when Marvel and MK both have not been patched. To me, this isn’t acceptable. If you’re running/organizing a tournament and you spend time hyping it up, plug your shit in and let it update the night before. If you’re not able to, ask someone to help. I know that this has never been done intentionally because someone dislikes a game, but at the end of the day, it still sucks and in the case of MK, royally fucks you over.
@Nick: Tally isn’t an MK Town, it’s something we are going to have to deal with. It’s literally going to be you, Chris A., Drew (Occasionally), and me. If you’re going to want to take it to the next level, you’re going to have to travel. I know you have a kid and other more important responsibilities, but that is the only thing that will make any of us get there. I hope that Chris’ attitude towards MK at last Thursday’s gathering didn’t upset you. Correct me if i’m wrong Chris, but he just wasn’t feeling MK that night. I’ve been there (With every game at some point). He wasn’t stating that he wasn’t going to play ever again, he just wanted to play AE with Drew that night.

Nick: Bring your own system if you wish to alleviate that problem. None of the 360s there had AE or the most current Marvel updates - everyone chipped in and brought their own setups. I already explained what happened. If it was that big of a deal (which, considering Sindel’s buffs, it was, but you switch characters every other week, so it certainly wasn’t that detrimental to where you couldn’t have used someone else), then you could have moved your matches to the other system. You are wasting a post by complaining about it, especially considering you complained quite a bit about it just last week.
Secondly, you don’t get better competition to come to you. You want higher class competition? You need to travel for it. If you can’t, then all of your love for the game will get you nowhere here because Turk and I are currently the only two players who can be actively reached who play it that are tournament competitors (albeit, in other games). He doesn’t own the game, and I cant get the competitive experience I need to improve because of our limited player base. It’s just what it is.
Adam: You’re partially right. I’m going to play it for fun if someone asks me to and keep my combos tight with some lab time every now and then, but other than that, I can’t find any reason to invest any more into it since the game mechanics don’t appeal to me enough to put in the work I’d need to do alone to level up and I don’t have the means to reach anywhere close to what’d I need to be competitive with it otherwise. Im letting James hold onto my copy so that he can iron out some combos and basic game strats, and Jay will play it with me, so maybe after those two come into fruition will I spend real time with it again.
tl;dr: Ill be a moving training dummy for whoever needs it, but that’s about it for now.
