The Superman Thread: PREACH IT, goody!

#866

When does All-Star Superman #12 come out? #11 was pimp and I gotta see how it ends!

I think August but its ASS so dont execpt it to be this early lol.

Normally I’d agree, but #11 shocked me with its timeliness, so I don’t know what to think anymore.

Currently, #12 is slated for August 6th. It is also worth mentioning that the second ASS hardcover, which compiles issues 6 through 12, is due in January.

One can only hope

I did not know Superman 2’s Ursa is now part of DC continuity…

Based on the braniac arc (I won’t put spoilers since nobody reads Action comics nyway)

Genral Zod and Ursa were there (Pre-Betrayal) when Braniac shrunk Kandor, and I liked the story’s presentation about Braniac being an interplanetary sinister being stealing cities, That’s a superman villain… not Parasite or Metallo thug-levels rogues.

So Pa Kent is probaly going to die its not confirmed or anything but its hinted all over Action comics
And everyone Supes fans or not should pick Action comics, 866-867 were realy realy good Johns even made Supergirl interesting

Spoiler

according to AC Supes never met Brainiac no one have so now he went to hunt him down, so Supes go to some far away planet (in a spaceship realy gives the feeling that he is going on a journey) and fails to save it from Brianiac bots and not all its seems like brainiac did all this just to capture superman. fucking great read

Is Superman The Dailies worth picking up? There’s a thick book that has 1939-1943 daily comics in in.

They’re done in the same style as the comic magazines of the time. The artwork is great, as with all of Joe Shuster’s work on Superman, but you might not want it if you’re not a fan of the “grizzled strongman” version of the character.

And to be picky about it, the book only goes up to 1942, I think.

“grizzled strongman”? Please 'splain.

darksoul

if Supes never met braniac before then that invalidates a Sh*tloafd of story arcs, panic in the sky didn’t happen, Superman Exile didn’t happen and even the Sacrifice Storyline (IMO one of the Three good things about Infinite Crisis [the other 2 being villains united and Superman: Inficite Crisis TP]).

They would have been better off then telling this from a Flashback sequence in Superman confidential, but hey

Story >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Continuity for me. so I’ll suspend disbelief if AC turned out to be a good story

BTW which is better The Braniac arc or the Atlas Arc in ‘Superman’ (I haven’t read the latter although they say it has wayy superior art)

Before he gained a boatload of superpowers (flight, invulnerability, assorted forms of vision, etc.), Supes was a tough bastard who roughed up common criminals. It wasn’t until well after these strips that the more familiar idealistic, powerful Superman evolved.

Even if the daily strip version of the character isn’t definitive in terms of characterization, I would say this era has the definitive look of the character. Muscular, but not super-defined like a body builder, and with a pinched nose and constantly furrowed brow. He has a distinctive face that I wish future artists (even the legendary Curt Swan) would have been more careful to emulate.

I don’t think it ruins continuity the story goes in a way that Supes never met the REAL Brainiac he did fight all kind of probes and clones of brainiac but never the real one
so i think that Johns is doing a good job not realy touching continuity

and as far as AC vs Superman comics well its Johns vs Robinson and for me the only guy in DC who is on the same level of writing with Johns is Morrison (i only read Johns/Morrisonn books when it comes to DC)
so Brainy arc wins (its simply better in any way), but i guess ill keep reading the Atlas arc cause its suppose to tie with AC to the big Supes storyline later

It really would make sense if the Atlas story arc was building towards supes moving the planet earth or something a la pre-crisis levels.

I have stated in other forums (not here though) that I would prefer supes to be the Pre-Crisis Level of “Master of All Trades” as opposed to “The Jack of all trades but a master of none” since most writers seems to fall of the trap of weakening supes thinking it’s always a deuce ex machina to write better stories rather than explore the storytelling possibilites with the boundaries of such power.

Sounds good to me. I’ll pick it up then.

Superman was to the 1930’s what Spider-man was to the 1960’s a relatable character whom we wish could do all thr things he (they) can.

which makes supes the original relatable character.

Any Supes fan should know by now that there’s a big superman event coming toward the end of the year and that Geoff Johns promised its going to be on the same level as the godly Sinestro Corps war.
anyway it should run on both Action comics and Superman comics. with both Johns and Robinson writing and its looks like Johns will have the upper hand (which is great ofcourse)
and according to the Preview issue for October well its going to be about…

big supes event

[details=Spoiler]Well its going to be about 100,000 kryptonians coming to earth, yep there’s a spiecal issue called “New Krypton special” that will be out in october written by both Robinson and Johns toghter, and than the story will run on both Action and Superman comics.
it will probaly also feature other stuff from the Atlas arc (something about who ever made him appear in Metropolis) and whatever will happen in the Brianiac arc.
Oh and probaly the death of Pa kent which is already hinted all over Action Comics/[/details]

Anyway im pretty hyped about this event cause Action comics is already probaly the best DC book at the moment and we already know how good SCW was and Johns promised he will do the same to Superman like he did to GL.

Probably like Supes’ Version of “One More Day”? to end the marriage?

I’ve argued this with a friend, the best way to end the marriage is with this era’s supes and lois riding off into the sunset (like what Earth2’s versions supposedly did in the first crisis) while a new rebooted Supes and Lois starts all over. retconning it all off might piss off established continuity

Ok more info about the upcoming arc
New Krypton

[details=Spoiler] so this event is years in the making and basicly Supes is finally releasing the people of Kandor and they are declaring Earth their new home and Supes is like “sorry no” and the stories goes on from there.
Zod will make an appearence, Lex ofcourse.
The team also want to make Supergirl an A-list hero.
Oh and they also said that they got plans till December 2010 and this thingie is just the tip of the begining[/details]

Goody shouldnt you start the 20/8 countdown?
