The Super Sentai/Power Rangers Thread

Link me. I need this.

Geki ranger did this to an extent, which makes sense as its got a martial arts theme.

Sentai actually DOES refrence/say that the heroes are using SOME form of martial arts IIRC…

Another thing is that in a lot of them they’re theoretically all taught the same techniques.

Hey, I’m kind of new to this whole scene. I was a big fan of Time Force when they were showing it a while back, and I’ve read some Kamen Rider comics. Also, I watched Ultraman when I was a wee lad. But I’m kind of interested in finding more modern stuff.

What should I watch? I mean, what’s the definitive sentai?

Trini(OG Power Rangers), Kai(Lost Galaxy), Chen(Lightspeed Rescue) = kung fu.

Like I said, been out of the loop since early Zeo. Got any youtube/video links?

Dekaranger.

KR wise Kabuto has the most variety in a KR (action/drama/comedy/cooking) and is not a bad 1st series but really you need to go for either Black or V3.

ninja storm used akido and wushu.

my fave seasons are ninja storm/dino thunder…i havent watched enough jungle fury to say how it is yet…give me a couple days. lost galaxy is good.

I think you mean Chad (Mike Chat) on lightspeed rescue. And he was a karate guy.

mike chat was tkd…but more sport karate.

also johnny bosch is a karate guy and jason frank is a sport karate/karate guy

I think Johnny does Shaolin kung fu. And I could’ve sworn Mike grew up training at Sharkey’s karate studio, unless he was doing TKD there as well. Cuz I also know he does ATA.

Oh yeah, I watched Ninja Storm. There was something really weird about the sound quality, though, and it kind of made it hard for me to watch.

i know he’s trained with sharkey, but i dont think its a straight up karate school…just looking at the classes.

its kinda like most sport karate schools…you have your base style for my school its chun do kwan tkd and then everything else is a mixture of stuff. i have a feeling its like that their…their base style is Shorei-ryu. and ata is a fucking joke…i could get a black belt in a week in that style. jesus…they are the fucking epitome of a mcdojo.

i may be adding jungle fury to my fave list of shows…they are following the ninja storm plot to almost a t…which isnt bad…but some major differences.

-the squad are kung fu students
-they offed the master in the first episode again…and then got a stoner as their master
-the villain is a mantis…and u guessed it…does mantis style
-not sure whats up wit the red ranger yet…seems to have untapped powa or sumtin…ya know like wild force.

As long as you have the money to shovel out the testing fee. I could probably grab one tomorrow if i wanted. Yeah, I think ATA is probably the weakest branch of TKD overall mostly cuz of their belt system and the fact they put way too much emphasis on basic forms. The one good thing I’ve seen from them is that I’ve seen some pretty crazy trickers who have come from ATA. Other than that, I’m pretty much WTF all the way if I had to pick one.

Hell naw. Power Rangers died after Space…

Storywise yes. Jason David Frank also brings up a good point, the reason with the new cast every-year is to make sure we don’t grow attached to the previous cast for example from Mighty Morphing (3 Seasons) we have grown attached to probably our favourite cast of all time, and that is because it lasted 3 seasons, 2 more season than the rest of the new generation. Also they retconned the whole Zordon killing all evil when he exploded during the Space Arc.

its kinda interesting how all disney seasons aren’t connected but they retcon it by everyone knowing about power rangers…as if their a mythical legend. kinda like voltron force in the voltron anime…and they use terms like morphing grid…though that was supposed to be destroyed with zordon.

I always found it more interesting that the writers incorporated the Sentai story lines into PR more and more for the newer seasons, part of why the old cast has gone.

and yea I will always find it funny how they used the dai ranger mecha and some monsters but only the white ranger. (which btw is another great sentai and also had distinctive styles for the different rangers)

In my eyes that was always good and bad. Timeforce and WildForce was a script for script just like there sentai counterparts. Out of all the Disney era power rangers, Mystic Force was 3/4 like its sentai counterpart.

PR itself was always interesting when they came up with original story ideas. Like I enjoyed the fact that in Season 2 of MMPR Saban didn’t change the costumes up just to match the Dairanger sentai. Same goes with Season 3.
