The Super Mario Maker thread - March 9th Update: Keys Finally Found

WTFFFFFFFFF

HOLY FUCK.

And then on the other end of things you have the Game Grumps getting PTSD from playing Rossā€™ levels.

Keep in mind, I think this is the third episode theyā€™re on this one single level. Maybe the fourth.

That is insane. You have to have a perfect run through all of those crazy jumps to beat that level within the time limit. He only had 2 seconds leftā€¦

(I swore to myself that I wouldnā€™t watch The Game Grumps again, at least for a long while, after subjecting myself to their Heart of Darkness run, but I may have to watch that particular run just to see them suffer.)

Anyway, from the relatively few videos Iā€™ve seen thus far, the levels that people are creating are along the lines that I expected. They mostly fall into three categories to me: super easy ones, of which the ā€œAutomaticā€ levels are a neat subset; super short ones with at least one (would-be) really cheap trick and difficulty spike that, once overcome, basically means the end of the level; Kaizo-esque ā€œEXTREME!ā€ levels that are meant to pretend itā€™s the 90s again, down to being hard by virtue of either poor or malicious design, like the one roknin ended up rage-quitting on.

If nothing else, then Mario Maker should at least give people perspective on how difficult it is for Nintendo to create balanced levels, though I obviously donā€™t expect people to learn that given that would be expecting too much of humanity.

Despite being a Kaizo-esque level, I have to admit that was sort of neat and for the most part ā€œfairā€. Shame thereā€™s so little time and only one real way to do it; if thereā€™s only one real way of playing a level to beat it, then to me it should either be because itā€™s automatic or a puzzle rather than just ā€œhey, pixel perfect jumps are required everywhereā€.

My apologies for the delayed response, especially given what I asked of you earlier. I donā€™t mind updating for you, @T20thoughts, at least when you donā€™t have the time and given that I currently have almost nothing but time.

As for the separate second post, I currently canā€™t do that, unfortunately. The closest I do is ask @ā€œchadouken!ā€ if heā€™s fine with having his post deleted since his first post in here is the second of the thread, a single word (literally), and in between your original post and your second post. That would be the easiest solution since I canā€™t straight up add another postā€“I can (mostly) only edit and delete them.

Soā€¦ came across some fun levels today.

Seems like its an Automatic level, but you do need to jump and avoid things.

ā€œAutomatic Mario Kartā€*

A fun auto-level, just by the sheer intricacy of the design. Nice surprise at the end, too.

ā€œDragon Roost Islandā€

C52A-0000-005D-BF45

A leisurely stroll set to the theme of Dragon Roost Island from Wind Waker.

ā€¦and how could I forgetā€¦

ā€œGourmet Raceā€*

You know what this is.

Yeah man, thatā€™s totally fine. I edited that post anyway and itā€™s just taking up useful space.

Made some edits to That Bratā€™s Castle so, new code.

These are the courses I was talking about a few posts ago, from a guy named Phil. Iā€™ll just post the link to his blog that contains the courses, complete with screen shots.

(Thank you for your cooperation, @ā€œchadouken!ā€. Your post has been deleted since last night.

I also deleted a couple of other posts in here if anyone was wondering why things shifted.)

That said, Iā€™ve only just now finished updating the first post, however, due to falling asleep shortly after watching The Game Grumps fail at Rossā€™s levels. Fun times that. My apologies for the delay.

Anyway, all stages in the thread have been added to the first page now, including the ones in the current last two pages of 5 and 6 that werenā€™t there. All of Sonichumanā€™s stages are now in the first post as well since for some reason almost all of them were missing. Iā€™m not sure why that was, but itā€™s fixed now.

In addition to this, Iā€™ve added a section for non-SRK stages and a section for general miscellany at present. Weā€™ll see if that changes, though of course itā€™s up to @T20thoughts ultimately whether he wants to keep them or not; Iā€™m just helping because I said I would since I have the time currently even if I have neither the game nor the console.

As such, everyone please check things over to make sure nothing was missed. Also, if @Davidstar, @Joshkaz, and @KaboXx would be so kind as to give me their stagesā€™ names, then I can input them in e. I suppose I should also look at the Wii U thread for any levels I missed, but that wait until at least tomorrow if not longer since I doubt that Iā€™ll be posting on SRK for the rest of today as Iā€™m too behind in other things as per usual.

[EDIT: If anyone wants to say what version of Mario his stage pertains too as well, I probably wouldnā€™t mind adding it to the front page either. This even though itā€™s readily apparent in-game from what Iā€™ve seen, so itā€™s probably unnecessary.]

Theyā€™ve ā€œonlyā€ been on that stage since part-way through the fourth video, though they probably would have been on it for longer if Mr. Avidan hadnā€™t spent so much time getting his ass kicked by the appropriately named level ā€œEasyā€.

Either way, this reminds me to mention that present Iā€™ve refrained from linking to the all of the videos on this page even though some of the links Iā€™ve put on the first page link to videos. Weā€™ll see if that changes, even with my aforementioned current distaste with The Game Grumps overall.

first one i made is boggle
second one i made i deleted
the third one i posted is called shenanigans.
fourth one is crappy bird

(Well that was quick.)

I see. So Iā€™m guessing that means that ā€œ734C-0000-0040-5EEBā€ is Boggle while ā€œDBF8-0000-0040-6854ā€ no longer exists. Is that correct?

Made a sequel to my Jump Man course since its my most popular one.

(continues to wait for Davidstarā€™s clarification)

Noted. Iā€™ve added it to the front page, @ReggieHadoken.

Also, for the sake of clarification, the first iteration of ā€œThat Bratā€™s Castleā€ was deleted, correct?

Can someone suck at this game? I feel as if I have Makerā€™s Block. Other than that Iā€™ve been on the player side of things 100% having a blast.

I made a mistake I realized.

This is the right code I just caught it.

Is chuck the enemy football player in this game for SMW?

Thanks. Yeah, the first version of that course was terminated.

Oh yeah, Iā€™m not the type to be sore about people adding stuff to the thread. I got the OP, but this ainā€™t my board, and Mario Maker is very much a community effort.

Good stuff on adding stages, @ā€œThe Damnedā€! Any stages that were missed in the process were honestly just oversightsā€¦ Iā€™ve been trying to add stages to the OP whenever Iā€™ve got a minute or two, though thanks to work-exhaustion, Iā€™ve just not been up to it these past days. The intention has been to add all and any stages that were posted in this thread, by anyone.

@Shin_Jr - Chuck is sadly not in this game as things are right now. No idea why, much like Iā€™ve no idea why they removed the ability to spinjump on razorblades. Could just be a coding thing, or that they felt that the game has enough options right now, or whatever.

I do still hope theyā€™ll add the Chucks in a later update, among other things. Would also like to see some Mechakoopas from SMW, those disco balls from SMB3, Bowser statue lasers from SMB3ā€¦
