The Strongest Woman in the World! (Street Fighter Legends)

XENA… WARRIOR PRINCESS!!!

I mean… Chun-Li!

As most of you have read: we are currently planning for our next
Street Fighter Legends book: Chun-Li! (Check out the interview
in SFL:Sakura #4) Not to mention that CAPCOM’s producing a new
Live Action Chun-Li movie (I have high hopes for it), we’re seeing
"the Strongest Woman in the World" get a lot of spot-light!

Lets hear some shared thoughts of Ms Li.
Anyone use her a lot in the games?
What do you think of her history?
Do you really believe that she’s the strongest?
Which costume do you like better?

I do, well not as much nowadays as I did in the past although she is a keeper in my MUGEN collection. My reason for liking her? This may seem strange but the first character I played was Ken and when my brother beat him, I saw how messed up his face was. Then that got my interest as I thought “What would happen if he beat the woman, Chun Li?” After that, she got me hooked. Although Cammy, Sakura, Karin and Ibuki came along to become my favourites, Chun Li still has a place for my playing.

It’s one of the better stories in the game. In fact, she and Guile were the ONLY characters in Street Fighter 2 whose endings actually dealt with the final boss. Although I wondered why her Alpha 3 ending or story as a whole had nothing to do with her father.

According to the story faq, she plays second to Rose and with good reason. She was severely beaten by Bison in Alpha 2 as Alpha 1 doesn’t count and Rose is the ONLY character to ever give Bison a decent beating. I also think that if the Alpha Chun Li fought Shadaloo Cammy, Cammy would win.

I must say the original suits her best. The other one, while it is a good outfit, seems to always want to show off her behind, especially in the SF Alpha movie. She looked her best in Third Strike.

Can anyone please tell me anything about that special comic drawn by Omar for the reissue of SFII-movie?

  • What was it about (spoilers please!)?
  • How many pages had it?

Thanks in advance.

CHun Li has been and always will be my favorite Street Fighter and I love her SF II / III outfit the best!

cant wait to see this miniseries as she definately hasnt gotten enough of a spot light in the main series

Chun Li will always be remembered for being one of the first women in video gaming to not be a damsel in distress and be known for kicking ass.

I love using her, especially in Third Strike. Her SFII/SFIII costume also happens to be my favorite.

Here’s an example of Alpha tripping up in the face of Zero. In Alpha 2, Chun Li directly accuses Bison of killing her father (he never admits to anything); in Zero 2 she doesn’t do that. Then in Alpha 3 and Zero 3 she says to Guile in his ending that she believes her father is still alive somewhere.
By SF2, Revival being the most current version, with all the investigation she’s done Chun Li is convinced that a man (still no names specified) from Shadoloo offed her dad, and she enters the second World Fighting Championship to bring down the whole syndicate.

Chun Li Chung (little-known old fact is her family name) I definitely agree that with Rose out of the picture is the strongest woman in the world, although Delta Red Cammy during SF2 was certainly capable of giving her a run for her money.

“Anyone use her a lot in the games?”

I use Chun-Li in just about every video game she’s in. She was the first SF2 character I used because back when the game came out I hit puberty so you can blame that on raging hormones!

Though there are a few games that I’m not crazy about Chun-Li’s move set so for those games I default to someone else, mainly Ryu. I hate using Chun-Li in all of the Marvel related games, for X-Men vs. SF I use Ryu and Ken and for MSH vs. SF I use Ryu and Wolverine. MVC1 I play with Spider-Man and Mega Man or Ryu and Mega Man. MVC2, well… any chance I get to play with Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li together I usually take it even though Capcomers ain’t too strong in MVC2 ha ha! I also don’t care for Chun-Li in CVS1 where I use Ryu and Terry, my crossover dream team! But she rocks in CVS2 so I can make my Capcom team - Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li once again! But every other game she’s in I use Chunners and Ryu both, my favorites.

“What do you think of her history?”

It’s fine but being more of a Ryu fanboy I like his story better. Ryu’s fight to be the best seems to be more ongoing, he still has his rivalries with Sagat and Gouki while Chun-Li’s story seems done for the most part. Chun-Li is my second favorite character after Ryu though, it’s almost a tie. Whenever there’s a fan poll and I have to choose between Ryu and Chun-Li it’s incredibly hard for me but I tend to go with Ryu in the end.

“Do you really believe that she’s the strongest?”

Strongest woman in the world? You bet. She says she is and I’m not going to tell her otherwise. :china:

“Which costume do you like better?”

Her SF2 outfit all of the way. What was she thinking when she put on that other outfit wearing jogging pants and sneakers - does she think she’s fighting or something? Ha ha but her other outfit has grown on me over the years, but still whenever I’m given a choice in a game I pick her SF2 outfit. I mostly use the blue version but she looks great in black, red, orange and light green, a few others - mainly lots of the SF3 alternates. In CVS2 for the Japanese Dreamcast I color edited her outfit so it more closely looked like the blue and yellow of the SF2 Animated Movie - the blue is just a little darker - lots of fun.

“YATA!” And no I’m not quoting Hiro from the TV show Heroes!

"Anyone use her a lot in the games?"
Since Street Fighter II for the SNES, I actually have footage of me being young playing her. Like real footage. lol. Although in these years, when I pick up Street Fighter 3rd Strike, I play as her because she’s quite strong in that version, one hand kikoukens? Upgrade!

I play her the MOST in Marvel VS. Capcom. The first one is the best, she has four specials, and, well, she was great. Especially the air special. However, with MVC2 I never played her, she was at her worse in MVC2, she just sucked. But all in all I do play her a lot, she’s my best player in MVC.

"What do you think of her history?"
Going with the original first game and no alpha, her losing her father to Bison is quite tragic. But when you add in everything else, it’s surprising who she is. In the official capcom art, there’s art featuring her being taught by Gen? Also playing violin? etc. Those are nice arts of what she’s accomplished from being a child.

Although I find Dorai being her father real weird, is she half chinese/half american? 'cause Dorai definitely doesn’t look asian to me. So with this, that must mean her mother is Chinese? Oh I don’t know, that’s doesn’t make much sense unless she’s adopted.

So…Anyway, since her father is dead and I’m not gonna assume Dorai was the father, Chun Li’s story is real good, hopefully the legends series can elaborate more on her history, and maybe who exactly won SF2.
**
“Do you really believe that she’s the strongest?”**

Of course she’s the strongest, however, I think that’s been played out for a while, I think in the Tokuma comics she said that I think, and yeah, it wasn’t that cool. I think if it was hinted that she was the strongest is good, but she herself saying it, is just, blah.

"Which costume do you like better?"
Of course her alpha costume, it seems that she can fight faster in it. But in terms of what she should wear in Interpol missions, definitely I would prefer her wearing her original costume and not the alpha one. I think my favorite one of the alpha costumes is the one from XVS the 2nd one, not the blue one.

I don’t use her all that much. I use her in Super Turbo and Hyper Fighting mainly. Stored Supers and mid air Spinning bird kicks=goodtimes!

As for her history, I’m not sure what more their is to tell. She’s been pretty throughly and faithfully handled in the main story, maybe incorparate more of Yun and Yang into the mix. Or even better surprise us all and tell her THIRD STRIKE STORY!

Strongest woman in the world. No, and I’m glad. Imagine Chun Li as a sterioded pumped freak lifting cars and pulling trucks and what not. I’d be a shame for her to loose that lovely shapely figure

I’m a fan of the Alpha costume. It’s more sleek and stylely not to mention more practical.

Uh,sorry guys, but Rose is the strongest in the world according to street fighter.Chun Li is second and I guess first when rose dies.

As far as a Chun Li mini goes I am all for it because I love all things street fighter, but really wish you guys would have gone to another street fighter.I love Chun Li but she has been used to death.it would have been far nicer to see a story about Fei Long,Blanka,Oro,Urien and Gill etc.,but hopefully we get to some of these guys as well in the future. The third strikers really need some exposure but I suppose you wouldn’t use any of them in a legends series until the main comic gets to their point in the story.

You guys at Udon better have her crush Vega’s head or Watermelons with her theighs of doom!!! Or even have her throw a sofa!

I don’t really use Chunners… but shes a great character. I think the outfit used should depend on the kind of fan service you want to go for…

I really think her personality shined through in her animations in SF3. I hope you guys emphasise that femininity/toughness she shows in SF3. Its a perfect mix. She still seems like a lady but she still kicks butt. Looking forward to the mini!

Strongest?

Absolutely.

She states it in SF2.

Rose is gone by then.

I have little to no doubt on her physical strength. She’s a likely canidate for winner of the SF2 tournement, sharing that role with Guile. Also, Urien gives her straight up props in SF3.

As for being more powerful than Cammy. Yes, she is.

First off, Chi-manipulation. She has it, Cammy does not.

Second, Cammy has no record of beating any major opponents. Hell, Vega had to save her ass at one point. Chun just wins SF tournements.

Capcom has never stated that Chun Li won Street Fighter 2. In fact, according to her ending in Revival and her dialogue with Urien, more than likely she helped destroy the organisation.

While Cammy defeated Vega because he allowed her to, Bison was merely toying with Chun Li, hence why he said “Chun Li, you surprised me. Next time, I’ll use both hands.” And Urien was merely testing her to see if giving her the girl was worth the fight. Because Chun Li can use chi-manipulation does not mean she can defeat characters such as Oro.

Even though she only existed in the Alpha series, Rose is still the strongest woman in the world, so if she was still alive in Third Strike, she might even have been able to take on Gill without problems.

What I do believe is that while Chun Li from Third Strike would probably be able to defeat Delta Red Cammy, as she’s a tier higher, if they fought in the Alpha era, Cammy would have won as she was enhanced by Shadaloo’s technology and Chun Li wouldn’t have had the nine years of fighting experience she had in Third Strike.

But according to Tiamat’s faq, the strongest woman in the world should be none other than Ingrid as she herself is a goddess, providing that her existence is canon.

I agree with everything you say, gamespy.

and i totally forgot about ingrid.she ranks above all.

and Oro would pwn chunners hard, with one hand tied behind his back.

Funny thing about Ingrid - She does time travel to the future at the end of SFZ3 for the PSP to 201X so those years she’s missing Chun-Li can still be the strongest woman in the world, SF2 & SF3.

Really? I could’ve sworn her last name was Xaing or somthing of the like…

If Ingrid’s a goddess, then she wouldn’t exactly be “in the world” like all other human women. So she’d have to be with a billing for the strongest woman in the universe, if she actually is.

Yes CanadianDstryr. It was mentioned in her SF2 Dash account, and never brought up again as far as I know. I write “Chung” using the more phonetic romanization system of the two accepted systems used to romanize Chinese words. Her last name rhymes with “hung” with the “g” almost silent. Whereas the “chun” in Chun Li sounds like “choon” and rhymes with “tune.”

The other romanization system would make her last name something like Xiun.

Do you believe she’s the strongest?

  Yes, 3s she's very powerful

I like her old costume and the one from 3rd strike

Xaing comes froms that SF Cartoon Series, like Ryu’s last name being Hoshi in that series. lol
