The Street Fighter V Lounge: Tron Bonne rumored as DLC

I appreciate the the thought but if I actually were to be on a podcast I probably wouldn’t actually say anything

@Veserius, you are needed again to coach these fools.

There’s no downplay here. The character needs help. @YoungThuggery is pretty spot on. His v-trigger also sucks. His V-skill is highly situational. The fact that Vega is penalized for blocking (Mask and Claw durability) is a very big issue in itself. The claw on stance itself is extremely mediocre and almost useless outside of combos in some matchups.

To be perfectly honest, Vega only needs a few things and he will be fine

  1. lp roll needs to be plus on hit and not 0 (wtf)
  2. Improve claw stance
  3. give him back his cr hp from beta 2 (crush counter properties, faster startup)
  4. remove double backflip v-reversal and make it scarlet terror)
  1. I’d say in some ways he’s better at AA than Karin. He doesn’t have an invincible AA option like her, but she has to spend meter to get an invincible AA option and it’s her only thing that’s close to consistent. Vega s.HK if you’re in a good walking position can deal with a lot of stuff. Neutral jump MK and air throw takes care of a lot as well. His back walk speed is the best in the game so he’s good at positioning himself in spots good for AA or just making jump ins whiff due to that. Walk or slide under the jump is good as well.

  2. Vega has the best ways out of a corner without utilizing invincibility any way. Wall jump or jump forward when they get predictable with pressure and button to V Trigger flies you out of there. EX barcelona as well. He’s plenty better at dealing with a corner than say Alex, Birdie or Bison. Try being in a corner with those guys and you’ll want to go back to Claw.

  3. This is an issue, but it has to be expected. You’re playing a footsies character that can command grab people with the fastest walk speed in the game. Meaning you can out poke a good amount of the cast, walk up to them and now they have to worry about jumping or backdashing because they can’t just tech your throw attempt. That’s a lot of situations for a footsie character to control so yeah you’re going to have to settle with lacking invincibility. None of the other footsie characters can literally just walk up to you and shut off your ability to block and tech throws. Especially considering that’s his most useful stance any way.

  4. Technically it’s not his sole crush counter. I think you’re just trying to say his crush counter that converts to full combos. A lot of characters have mediocre combo crush counters any ways (including Chun) so it’s not much different with him. Counter hit s.HP combos are still solid.

  5. This is true, but it’s basically just admitting that he isn’t top tier and not everyone is top tier.

  6. Well you also have to consider that he has twice the moveset of a lot of other characters. There are characters that he can very well fight just with clawless stance and if you have to be with just one stance, it might as well be clawless any ways since its the stance that opens people up more easily. It’s not like Claw stance is gonna help you much vs Nash or Guile chucking booms.

  7. Sounds like it evens out then. You’re technically playing a 1,000 health character until that happens.

I think his v-reversal would be okay if he went forward instead of back lol…

Clawed jMP seems to be one of the best air-to-air AAs in the game from what I see in matches… I think if it wasn’t such a huge risk to do it jumping forward to catch stuff it would be almost all he would need as far as AA go, or just give it a juggle property.

I think I might be fighting game bipolar. Last week I felt like it was all shit and I was the worst. Now I feel like it’s the fucking best and I want to play all the time. Seriously, sometimes I’ll feel like I really have to take a shit and go “I can probably hold it in one more set”. So last week I was crying over what a miserable time I was having, and now I’m enjoying myself so much I’m willing to shit my pants rather than stop for a few minutes. And the thing is, I’m not winning that much more, because I’m playing my Gief, and he is lacking. But Gief is so much fun. I still think he feels like he has some of the worst match-ups in the game, but flexing on bitches just feels amazing. Still working on utilizing that V-Trigger, though, because it definitely feels super solid but people virtually always end up blocking or hitting me out of it, and when s. HP and s.HK are the only ways of comboing into it, it’s really situational. Maybe I’m missing something?

I think Vega’s V-Trigger is alright to be honest, especially when you compare it to some of the worse ones within the game. F.A.N.G, Zangief, etc.

Do you guys feel like the “Get hit too many times and drop the claw” mechanic should’ve been gone in SFV? Or is it a necessary evil to make Vega players more careful to not lose out on the range and damage the Claw provides?

Considering how shitty claw stance is and the fact you get BETTER damage options when you can do stance switch into double clawless stance combos, not really. Claw stance sucks in this game.

If Vega has super it’s easily one of the best V Triggers in the game. Every single one of his buttons can suddenly turn into 500 plus damage plus free oki. No joke at all. The issue is that if he doesn’t have super then yeah, it’s one of the more underwhelming V Triggers. If he had a way to combo with an EX off his V Trigger regularly it’d be a little more scary without super.

Wasn’t he able to do ex-wall dive in one of the beta builds? I can’t remember now, but it always looks like something that should work/once did.

At least let him combo into ex barcelona off of v-trigger.

Vega’s claw stance should be his default played stance. The claw is iconic to the character, real shame that it’s considered a handicap if anything.

Can we just forget that losing the claw is even a thing in season 2 please? Really silly that you just lost half your play style because you were forced into blocking too much since you don’t have any invincible moves and your v reversal sucks in the corner.

This coming from someone that really doesn’t have a good time fighting strong claw players by the way.

It would be nice if most or all v skills build a little meter just by using them without meeting the “requirements”. iirc, v meter only can build from CC normals, taking damage, and if the v skill came into contact with the opponent (ex. parry or FANG’s poison).

For example, Rashid can only build v meter from his v skills if eagle strike or nail assault (follow-up kick from the roll) actually hits. And I think he will build a slight amount if the opponent is blocking. I should be able to build meter without doing these unsafe follow-ups.
Since you can cancel Rashid’s normals into the roll and leap v skill I think it would be great to gain a slight amount of v meter from doing that as well.

Bison could benefit from whiffing his v skill to build v meter from a safe distance. Of course I seriously think he should have two like Rashid.

I have never enjoyed that aspect of Vega personally. I don’t think it’s a huge detriment in SFV since most Vega players prefer claw-off anyways (especially if they’re trying to mount a comeback), but it just restricts freedom in a way that isn’t fun for me.

I was hoping SFV would remove the claw-on/claw-off mechanic altogether since he felt so much worse to play once his claw fell off; unfortunately they doubled-down on it by making claw-off the way to go.

Dude I literally made the same post 5 mins earlier…

Yes I think he should have something to combo off of vtrigger beside super for sure.

Zangief has a bad V-trigger ?

It is one of his best qualities. He gets full big ass conversions into big damage/super/ mixups from a cr.LP with that V-trigger. Come on, man !

I don’t even play Vega, and I say yes. Disregarding the fact most players will keep the claw off 90% of the time, it’s an archaic mechanic that only exists because “hurpadurr SFII” and is extremely difficult to balance around. If you absolutely have to have it, just make it cosmetic. Vega shouldn’t arbitrarily be the only character punished extra severely for blocking.

yeah… Zangief’s v-trigger is amazing. Don’t know what he’s talking about lol.
