I go up to FGC “celebs” all the time and just bullshit with them. They’re players, not models. I see people coming up to them asking to autograph sticks. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. Come on, man. These guys are all just regular dudes. Let’s not fill up their egos.
The only people I will be okay being treated as celebrities are the Cannons (fucking obv), Jebailey (also obv), and Big E (because that guy for as big as he is loves to just be a clown and talks to you like he’s known you forever).
I mean this post because of Twitch spectators. They worship players and I find that creepy. I get that it’s the same as people loving an athlete, but I don’t think it’s even remotely on the same level. This is from a guy who has been in this scene for 16 years and seen players come and go.
That was a lot of fun! I didn’t get that many games off of you (only 3 in the 12 games we played) but I had a blast. You’re right at the skill level I need to practice against too! You are stronger than me which means I can learn from you, but not too strong to the point you are unbeatable. That’s good! You make for a good training partner. Hope to play against you again soon!
Now I know how @Twinblades feels when he fights me. Your Nash and Ryu are both very solid. I have some bad habits I need to work on.
I don’t understand them period. Neither the execution part nor the reason why it’s an actual tech. I mean I remember reading that it’s because of the active frames on opponent’s wakeup but that’s about it.
Also I dropped back to Bronze league with nearly 1000LP. GGWP
One of the latest ones was 1.4 or 1.6 GB I think. I guess her challenges don’t take that much space.
@Fatal1ty_93_RUS meaties basically prevent people to push any button on wakeup or in case of meaty throws they land when the character will have no time to tech. Hitting a meaty on the right frame will annihilate all non invincible reversals while giving you great frame advantage for higher damage. Meaty setups exist in order to land a guaranteed hit without having to time the meaty by your own judgement.
We’ve all been there man, 5 years isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things playing a fighting game.
What I suggest is:
Find someone close to your level. Do a bunch of matches and discuss what each of you could have done better. Watch your replays, then watch a replay of someone better than you.
What did they do that you didn’t?
Can you explain why they did certain things? Can you explain your decisions?
Start there and trust me you will gradually start to improve. Playing fighting games now a days gives you a bunch of tools to learn, but often aren’t clear on how to use said tools, that’s where SRK comes in.
Also on a mental level understand what meaties and frame data means, in game terms. It will help out a bunch.
So right before maintenance i get matched vs this Ryu. Beat him first match. Second match we trade rounds. I take note that he wants to parry as a go to AA.
I play a more reserved defensive style. I let you kill yourself and i don’t take risks unless im down by a lot on life. This is frustrating if you just try to go in.
Last round he makes a comeback after being down on life and stuns me. He taunts. Taunt doesn’t leave time for max damage combo. I live.
I empty jump. He parries as expected. I crush counter and win.
I disagree with this. Idols can be in any form of competition or entertainment no matter how big or small. FGC personalities may be Z-list but they are still celebs in their own right. I feel like you’re confusing adoration with just plain mad respect. Like sure Daigo shits like me and pees standing up. But I could never play SF like him. I respect him as a player and value his skill so I seem him as a big deal.
Not to say you can’t stil shoot the shit with these guys. I don’t suck their dicks. But I get hyped seeing top players just be top players.
If you keep thinking like this you will never improve. I used to have this same defeatist attitude, it is exactly why I did not do well in SF3. It was my first FG and I loved it but I was ASS! I couldn’t even parry and you know what? I accepted I couldn’t parry and gave up learning how to do it. You know what happened? I got destroyed against better players. Sure in the grand scheme of things 5 years is not a long time, but to not understand meaties, frame data, or frame traps in that time frame is just setting yourself up for failure.
If reading this stuff up is hard to process (it can be) there are plenty of videos online. If you understand that 5 minus 3 equals 2 then you can learn and understand how frame data works and eventually understand frame traps.
The game is still young. You can improve. Start watching some videos that explain the basics of the game. SFGod on youtube is a good source for learning the basics. While he is not an SF god, he has a good channel for learning the basics. His videos helped me understand the game a little better when I was first learning it in April. Graham Wolfe on twitter is another good source although the info is a bit unorganized.
I have only been playing this game online since April and I got to gold in 3 months after not playing fighting games for 6 years. Yes, six years. If I can do it so can you. You really just gotta buckle down and be willing to learn, get better and grind shit out. It takes work to improve. No matter how fast you do improve you are still putting in the work towards getting better.
There’s a difference between recognizing your skill level and tearing yourself down. If you truly believe you cannot get better you will always be stuck at your current skill level. Fighting games are just as much psychological as they are physical. It isn’t just the psychology of your opponent you have to be one with yourself as well. How can you trounce your opponent if you’re at war with yourself? Yeah. I never thought I would be silver back when I first started playing. Fast forward to the future and I have made it to the cusp of super gold! But I got knocked down from 5350 LP to 4872. Shit happens brah.
SF is more than a simple pastime. It is a journey and a commitment.
