Eh. I don’t hate SFV. It’s fun enough that I don’t mind playing it.
But, if I had to pick a post-Dark Age Capcom-fighting game, SFxT would be it. I mean, the games we played earlier today were pretty much exactly what I want in a fighter. 95% of the games were decided by c.MK usage (my best character is Nina, his best is Rolento, both have really good c.MKs). You don’t get that in SFV.
The Tutorial for Revelator is actually pretty fun too as it runs you through an obstacle course in a way that mainly uses how the game works and pretty much tells you how it works.
The Dojo also has a Mission Mode(I think this is M.O.M.) which pretty much not only tells you further how much certain things can and will work(i.e. The Dashing Grab in which you dash at your opponent, let go for a split second and do a grab instead or Hit Confirms, the little things REALLY DO add up for newbies) and that’s in addition to small tidbits of how to matchup against multiple characters and you can use different characters for that one for your own style.
SFV’s Trial Mode isn’t bad…but it mainly teaches you combos that you can probably learn yourself without much issues and doesn’t really make you feel great that you beat it, Revelator teaches you the basics and some advanced combos, but it leaves you knowing that you got a long way to go but at the same time it also leaves you satisfied.
I like how good buttons are in SF x TK…but I will say that as much as I love that game, going back to it after playing SFV, the (mostly) sluggish walkspeeds are kinda annoying. At least, when combined with the more zoomed out view and the larger stages.
Still that’s a minor gripe compared to how good and fun everything else is, and there are still characters to use with good walkspeeds.
I remember Xrd’s tutorial as the best tutorial in a fighting game I’d ever used. It explains so much and doesn’t skip on advanced concepts. The amount of different modes to train through is great as well, overall it’s just super accessible without simplifying the gameplay because the learning resources are all present within the game.
It’s crazy how good yet underrated/played I think Xrd is.
Quick note from Tekken: Unless you have a tweet from Micheal Murray, Haradar, in cases Flying Wonkey, and MarkMan don’t quote twitter niggas. Twitter niggas din’t know shit unless it’s those one if those 4. Flying Wonkey is the guy for leaks though.
Yup, my biggest gripe with it as well.
But then I whiff punish someone with Nina c.MK into geyser cannon, or Ryu c.MK into EX SEEEYAA!!!1 and I spotaneously forget that problem as I merrily remove half their HP.
KI’s tutorials is also surprisingly good, though apparently not as fun as Xrd.
I was full of hope when I first launched SFV and saw the interactive tutorial, even if it basically just teaches you to walk forward press buttons. Then the actual tutorials came out and… they were once again just videos like the ones you may have already watched on Youtube in the previous month. The character intro vids they did for their channel are actually much better than the ones in the game.
Will Capcom ever learn how to introduce people into fighting games instead of leaving all useful informations behind a paywall for those who are willing to get their official guides?
If LordWilliam is referring to Raz0r’s post, the part “Fuck SFV” was unnecessary, but Xrd indeed does an overwhelmingly better job in teaching the game than SFV. That’s not “what he thinks”, it’s a fact. For a game that is supposed to be the new FGC flagship and make the scene grow, Capcom should be taking notes of what ASW is doing.
Capcom should have been taking notes from every other fucking fighter on the market before SF5 was launched. The blueprint of how to basically make the perfect fighting game package was laid out to them with all of the previous games that were out prior to launch. They could have had a melting pot of picking all of the great features from different games and combining them into their package.
But they took absolutely no notes from ANYTHING, other than using rollback for online, which they even managed to fuck up compared to other games.
