Currently the actions I’m paying the most attention to are sales and player retention, where SF5 is not doing very well. In terms of viewers SF5 is doing okay, I think, and obviously the evo numbers are really impressive. If SF5 picks up super hard in the coming year I’ll be more than happy to be wrong about it. I’m not a forum warrior who is trying to insult people for enjoying a particular game, I’m just trying to present a measured account of the other side.

The frustration for me with 5 is that it is so close to being what I think it should be. If it wasn’t I wouldn’t be here talking about it.

Other games would love to have this type of cushioning with 5,000 people showing up at a major and large amounts viewing the major while they try to get more sales and put out the next product. Plus it’s Capcom and big brands always have a sense of immunity in these situations.

I don’t know if I can agree with this really. Capcom’s financials have been terrible for years. The only reason this game even exists is because Sony provided much of the money they’d need to develop it. Even then they cut corners in numerous places so that the game could exist. Capcom has a lot of love from fans who grew up playing their games but nostalgia and stream numbers are not guaranteed to translate to a massive increase in players or sales and at the end of the day they need revenue to continue to survive.

I think it would be fine if they game had actual in game content that the core audience could continue to gobble up and spend money on. Problem is it doesn’t yet. Capcom may be taking that crowd for granted but their thinking should be at this point is deliver the content that was promised in June then all bets are off. Get the zenny shop up and running with shit that people can spend real money on. Keep communications lines open, drop the game to 20 bucks for the holiday season, get ready for season 2. Bolded for emphasis. People are more than willing to take one up the rear as long as you don’t surprise them with a horse cock. let people know what is going on, A dev diary could help here. That is pretty much unheard of for Jap devs. Even the good ones like FromSoft don’t do it. They drop patches and it’ll be days until you figure out what the hell just happened.

BTW I wasn’t directing my earlier comment at you it was more towards what I read in the other threads. I just got off of mobile and I can see how it could seem that way. I think we pretty much agree on the same thing, I just not as gloomy on SFV future atm. At least not yet.

The vast majority just don’t know what they want. They just want to complain about something. So you’ll get arguments from pretty much every angle.

SF5 still has core problems, months later, that a stable and healthy company would’ve fixed in the first month. if they haven’t fixed the matchmaking by now, will they ever be able to? for months the honest pitch has been: come play our game, where there is minimal single player content (that content sucks btw), and online ranked is barely functional where you’ll wait minutes at a time to match up with someone and when you do there’s a good chance they’ll be nowhere near your skill level and/or they’ll ragequit if they lose.

I don’t care to argue about how “dead” SF5 is but it has not delivered a good experience for the majority of players, and that will have a long term impact on the playerbase and longevity of the game. I think this is a shame, because the health of every other FG is dependent on the health of whatever the current SF game is. if people will travel for SF4 and SF5, you know you have a place to play ST, 3s, KOF, anime, and get 30-100 entrants. if the current SF starts attracting less players it means bad things for all those games.

While I agree with the gist, I disagree with the latter.
If SF really did have a somewhat symbiotic relationship with other fighters, then their numbers would be alot more inflated.
If anything, the only that will happen is that you won’t have as many casuals watching, that’s pretty much it.

Even IF Street Fighter 5 was a perfect game with fully functional modes and everything.

How much better could it have done ? realistically, i can’t see it getting past 2 millions and 3 millions would be a BIG stretch.

It certainly wouldn’t break 3 millions (not by the end of the Fiscal Year anyway), but 2 millions? A very much realistic expectation.

You gotta consider that the gamers are easily alienated these days. If SFV was a complete and a working game at launch, it would receive positive reviews on community sites, at NeoGAF, ar SRK, in Steam, on Metacritic, and by YouTubers such as Jim Sterling or Angry Joe or TotalBiscuit etc.

People who didn’t preorder the game and wanted to buy it the day it came out or very shortly after the date were turned off from the purchase by the overwhelming negative opinions on the game coming from the (mostly) non competitive scene

Crack sales must be up. Dislike SF5 if you want. It’s flawed for sure, but it’s in absolutely in zero threat of dying.

The only thing that kills streetfighter games is other streetfighter games, and let’s be honest. No one is going to bring back Sf4 or any of the classics to the point where sfv dies.

The only way sfv goes away is if sf6 releases or if somebody makes an SF style fighting game without running or air dashing or having a block button or projectiles that don’t cancel or any of the other wierd shit you people like in other FGs
