Currently the actions I’m paying the most attention to are sales and player retention, where SF5 is not doing very well. In terms of viewers SF5 is doing okay, I think, and obviously the evo numbers are really impressive. If SF5 picks up super hard in the coming year I’ll be more than happy to be wrong about it. I’m not a forum warrior who is trying to insult people for enjoying a particular game, I’m just trying to present a measured account of the other side.
The frustration for me with 5 is that it is so close to being what I think it should be. If it wasn’t I wouldn’t be here talking about it.
Just block all the time you get knocked down. If she dashes in, jab her away. The only two exceptions are after a back throw (she’s +2 after a dash), and after mp elbow with kick ender (only if you don’t have a 3 frame jab)
SF5 still has core problems, months later, that a stable and healthy company would’ve fixed in the first month. if they haven’t fixed the matchmaking by now, will they ever be able to? for months the honest pitch has been: come play our game, where there is minimal single player content (that content sucks btw), and online ranked is barely functional where you’ll wait minutes at a time to match up with someone and when you do there’s a good chance they’ll be nowhere near your skill level and/or they’ll ragequit if they lose.
I don’t care to argue about how “dead” SF5 is but it has not delivered a good experience for the majority of players, and that will have a long term impact on the playerbase and longevity of the game. I think this is a shame, because the health of every other FG is dependent on the health of whatever the current SF game is. if people will travel for SF4 and SF5, you know you have a place to play ST, 3s, KOF, anime, and get 30-100 entrants. if the current SF starts attracting less players it means bad things for all those games.
Right, it’s just currently Capcom can work with the market it has. It could be better, but when you’re the king of the FGC eSports world despite your hiccups, you’re doing pretty good. If another game had similar hiccups they would be dead in the FGC.
Other games would love to have this type of cushioning with 5,000 people showing up at a major and large amounts viewing the major while they try to get more sales and put out the next product. Plus it’s Capcom and big brands always have a sense of immunity in these situations.
I believe you need time for a game to achieve a meta with any new game. Characters like Ibuki, Juri and Urien launching soon I think will fill that void for people who are looking for characters that need to be doing a lot of stuff and have potential for tech and setups. I do like that stuff too and that’s why I liked Ibuki because in 3S she did have a good mix of footsies and setting stuff up. It’s just I learned over time to just appreciate hitting buttons in SF also.
If more characters like those mentioned launch into next year and they add a couple small things to the engine, game will have no problem going on for years. Way too many people are carrying this boring edition of the game already. Can’t imagine when it’s “fun”
I just don’t see how they’re going to attract less people. Capcom will have to admit that it’s racist or Ono will have to touch someone’s kid for less people to show. They’ve committed every other commercial sin and people just won’t stop fucking showing up LOL.
Her dash throw she can be jabbed out of but what if she just does dash hp? If I “guess right” and neutral jump I get clipped by the elbow, if I just try and block I get tossed. I need to work on my wake up timing. I play this person a lot and while I went and experimented with most of the cast, he stuck with Laura and now I’m trying to catch up.
I feel like a large number of the issues with SFV start with a complete lack of communication from Capcom about the extent of the issues and the step(s) being taken to correct them. I can safely say at the moment that I’m going to be letting my PSN+ lapse (expires this Saturday according to Sony) until Capcom fixes the numerous issues that plague the netplay (one-sided rollback, no penalty for ragequitting, etc.).
Completely agree on your second point about other fighting games having a pseudo-symbiotic relationship with SF with regards to getting decent entrant numbers.
Crack sales must be up. Dislike SF5 if you want. It’s flawed for sure, but it’s in absolutely in zero threat of dying.
The only thing that kills streetfighter games is other streetfighter games, and let’s be honest. No one is going to bring back Sf4 or any of the classics to the point where sfv dies.
The only way sfv goes away is if sf6 releases or if somebody makes an SF style fighting game without running or air dashing or having a block button or projectiles that don’t cancel or any of the other wierd shit you people like in other FGs
I don’t know if I can agree with this really. Capcom’s financials have been terrible for years. The only reason this game even exists is because Sony provided much of the money they’d need to develop it. Even then they cut corners in numerous places so that the game could exist. Capcom has a lot of love from fans who grew up playing their games but nostalgia and stream numbers are not guaranteed to translate to a massive increase in players or sales and at the end of the day they need revenue to continue to survive.
So he does back throw, dash, then throw/hp elbow? If yes, your only option is to backdash (or super) with alex, or ex command grab with birdie. Obviously you lose to strike
I really like this game. I think people don’t know how to play it yet, and complain about dumb stuff just like they complained about the 9 frame reversal window on SF4.
The biggest problems are on its interface and matchmaking.
If Capcom is going to release a big balance patch at the end of the year, they should name it “Super SFV” or something to remind everyone this is a fresh start.
I don’t think the game will die, but the internet will be the internet. A lot of people resent Street Fighter cause it has taken away the spotlight from other games for years. Just look at everyone pretending SF4 was the best thing ever when they talked crap about it for years. Cant wait for SF6 so I can read how great SFV was.
That’s what I’m getting at. They already have what they need to survive. Rough start, but we all know this game is going to keep getting content for whatever years they want it to. The slow DLC method makes things look slow, but if it worked for KI it’s gonna work for this game.
It may not be going at the rate everyone wants, but I can list a bunch of deader games that aren’t getting any more content already.
It’s 2016, most gamers have libraries of games ranging in the hundreds (thousands if you count emulators). We have unlimited free video content from twitch and YouTube. We are spoiled with so many options that we can’t pick one to enjoy, and thus are always bored. The “boring” line is just noise.
