The Street Fighter V Lounge - McRibs for the good, The Purge of 2016 for the bad

Idk, I don’t see many people hating on other fighters. Most people I know who don’t play games like GG,DOA, tekken or whatever tried them and just flat out didn’t like them.

Then the other folks rail on with the “they are only playing it because it’s capcom” or “I wish more people would give this game a chance” they did and thought it was ass. They just don’t see the need to tell you how bad they think the game was because they don’t play it.

I literally just got caught up on the KoF thread (was behind by a few pages) genuinely looking for more info. I got that but half of the page was just shitting on capcom…

Why? Nobody cares that you don’t like the game. Instead of discussing KoF there was a few discussion of SFV and how shitty it was.

It won’t be enough. The SF5 rerelease could include all S1 characters, all new modes, all new costumes, cinematic story, and it won’t be enough. Hell they could include all new S2 characters in advance within the physical copy and it won’t be enough.

They need to release a free to play version that can be upgraded with money to the full game. It’s the only way to gain back some of the goodwill they lost. But Capcom are too greedy/lazy/dumb to do this, so embrace the end!

Yeah it’s SFIV all over again. I did a small bit of going into threads shitting on IV, but in the end you just look funny when many more people are playing that game than your game. I fucking hate Smash but a lot more people are playing it than 3rd Strike at tournaments so I can only really talk so much shit.

People hate on shit that is popular or they don’t believe should be popular. Nothing new. It’s one thing to hate how the product is working commercially, but to 5,000 people going to Evo you’re just going to be that grumpy guy asking people to play his game that struggles to get triple digit turnouts at majors.

I doubt most casuals even know this game exist.

I was in Gamestop yesterday and this dude was like " oh is that street fighter new? Let me get that".

Capcom doesn’t need to fix anything with those people since they weren’t paying attention in the first place.

This is true. That’s why I’d rather Capcom go for a model that keeps those that find the game interested and staying interested over time. This is even what they said they were going for. The guy you described is the same nigga who will play the game once a month for a few months and probably never touch it again.

Oh and you can bet with KOFXIV launches, the same dudes who talked about how shitty and easy mode KOF XIII was (in comparison to the impeccable 08/2002) will be back to trash XIV.

I remember when Tekken Revolution came out and everyone thought it’d suck because it’s “not Tekken”. 2yrs and only a few costumes later that game sold about 2mill in curious niggas. A Tekken game that became really popular for causal players. It’s still being supported by those casual niggas, at least till T7.

If SFV has that F2P version launch along side an upgraded SFV it could really help the game. They’d have something to bring back original buyers, something to attract new players, and a lil something something for people curious about fighters who never tried them* (because money).

*If i never played TR I probably woulda never gotten into FGs and i’d be sticking to alot of RPGs.

I am under the impression that the F2P w/pay for additional characters and modes model that DOA5:LR used was wildly successful in getting their game out there. Even, from my understanding, KIs distribution model isn’t quit as initially generous as DOAs. Even if Capcom doesn’t go whole hog with F2P they do very much need to change their approach to distribution and, this is best word that comes to mind, recruitment (getting new blood into the scene). The following quote seems eminently applicable to how Capcom needs to change their thinking:

Criticisms of SF5 are pretty fair. I criticize but I don’t think it’s a hopeless game. I just think it needs more meat both in terms of content and in terms of tools on a per character basis. You’re a Chun Li player, so certainly you understand the draw of having more stuff to play with. I like Cammy too for example but I can only play her for like 20 minutes before I’m bored and going back to play Chun.

I think the criticisms people have of 5 are much less philosophical than the criticisms people had going into 4. The meat of SF5 is pretty okay, but there isn’t enough of it, it’s nothing truly special, and there are no potatoes, veggies, or dessert after you’ve eaten it.

I want 5 to succeed, but I think it’s going to require a ton of people admitting to the fact that the “core game” isn’t in as good a place as a lot of you seem to think it is. Spectators are bored, and a lot of players are bored too.

I’ve complained about the matchmaking today?

Nigga you made me hungry, imma put a pizza in the oven later.

The Fight 2016 Pools

A Korean site conducted an interview with Ono after the finale of the SFV Crash tournament today…
someone wants to translate

So I’m supposed to admit the game is in a bad place because you are bored? What kind of fucking sense does that make. Complain all you like but I’m not going to champion your cause because you want something added to the game.

I like how simple the game is. Adding more shit (core mechanics wise) could actually take away from my experience.

If spectators want the game to change they should stop watching. What is with people who flock to shit they hate? There are no shortage of other fighters that would love to pull 1100 people for an auction tournament or 22k 3am on the east coast.

If you are bored I suggest you manage your time better. Life is way to short to do shit you don’t enjoy.

The best is Vega to Guile in SFV:

“What a revolting haircut. It baffles the mind, really.”

Vega mostly insults his opponents directly after he wins, but that fucked up hairdo left him in awe. That shit mindfucked him lol

We need a hero

Spoiler

an @Unsung_Hero

Chun-Li has a really good fireball.

What is even more interesting is that they seem to say the same points over and over and over. Anyways, play what you find fun and don’t play what you are not having fun with.

Capcom out of ideas, is it female? Give them a dress
But what can ya do
This would of been better outfit. She still has her gear on and you could come up with nice color schemes to suit your personality. A dress can only be one shade of color, it’s fucking boring.

And Ibuki needs to stop stuffing her bra with Don-Chan

I think you are misinterpreting my post, or maybe I wasn’t super clear. If the goal is financial success and a long competitive lifespan, then things do need to change. They don’t need to change for me, they need to change because if they don’t, the game is going to die. My particular complaints are tame compared to the things other more passionate people are saying about Street Fighter 5.

I play 5 for a few hours a week and I have a pretty decent time with Chun Li, who gives me most of the flexibility and complexity I want. If more of the cast had as wide a breadth of tools as her I’d be happier, personally, as a player and a spectator. Other people who aren’t 100% happy with the game are saying similar things. We’re not asking for the moon.

Hmmm, well I do think Chun has more things to her than Cammy, but if Cammy was found to be an objectively better character I wouldn’t mind switching to her either. I probably had some of my most fun in SF pressing s.MK with Ibuki and and c.MPx2 with Rose so I find the basics more fun than others I think. The rate things are going I might find Cammy more fun if she just makes it more obvoius that having a damaging DP for a grounded AA is just way better than than just light attack shit.

I always say overall in these situations actions speak louder in words. Just like in SFIV you had dudes swear up and down that it was boring to play and watch, stream monsters throwing out Resident Sleepers during Honda vs Balrog and Bison vs Elena, but you think Capcom is going to care about that. When Capcom sees 40 to 80,000 views for finals at majors and 400 to 500 thousand views for grand finals at Evo, they’re only going to think “hey we’re doing the right thing”.

I guess if the game was fun to play or watch we’d have 900,000 views for Evo finals and 10,000 people showing up at Evo. MKX looks all kinds of fun with cool shit and setups, but dudes are not playing and watching to show it.

At this rate SF6 could be a 3 buttons fighter with one health bar and super like ST and dudes would show up in droves. You already know.

I think it’s much better to play a game you love that gets 50 entrants than to play a game you either don’t like or only kinda like that gets 5000 entrants. I always roll my eyes at the people who say “I don’t like X game but I play it cuz of the competition.”

Melee’s hella fun btw. if it wasn’t a recipe for long term wrist damage at high levels I’d probably play it competitively!
