I did that in training mode and it worked 20 out of 20 times. In a real match though I find it awkward, since you have to watch your spacing so much especially in SFV, that I rarely have time to shift my eyes, to the side of the screen.
I just combo off counterhits when I know it has to be a ch. For example with Ryu when you pressure someone with st. MP> st. MP and the first one was blocked, but the second one hit, it has to be a counterhit because the guy must’ve pressed a button, so I can sweep him.
I feel like having a different color hitspark and soundeffect would make confirming of counterhits a lot more convenient.
I mean crush counter demonstrates this quite well. It’s kinda hard to miss the opportunity to do something off CC, thanks to the very obvious sound it makes.
I think I need to cut back on my drinking. Every Saturday or Sunday morning I wake up with the vague recollection of playing matches, then I log on and see a few trash talk messages and like 800 less points than I started with lol
It wasn’t even a match. F.Champ purposely forfeited a few rounds just to help him out. F.Champ pretty much destroyed him other than a few rounds. It was probably the most trollish exhibition I’ve seen in a long time. I figured F.Champ would win, but not literally play with his food like he did.
I’ve literally just been throwing games so that people in matches don’t ragequit while im in my Survival matches. I’m not sure if ragequit matches kick me out of Survival or not so I’m just bleeding LP for colors…
Champ went with the Doom / Magneto / Phoenix team for the entire exhibition
KBR tried like 7 different teams, the last one being Sentinel / Vergil / Doom, IIRC
Champ won like 4 games straight, took a mic, screamed “THIS IS MY GAME”, won liek another 4 games, then gave one to KBR for free out of pity, then won another 2-3 games, then gave KBR another free match, lost a few matches as well, then it was more or less back and forth between them when Champ’s Phoenix was out and the rest was mostly a free match for KBR
During the entire thing, Fchamp looked at KBR, clapped him, laughed, facepalmed, patted him on the back, etc. Overall shit was pretty humiliating, and they still have a main tourney to play through today at Winter Brawl X, they’re both currently in Top 8
Is no one on the face of this planet playing ranked or casual? I played this game for almost an hour and not one single online match happened. So I go to battle lounge, and no matter who I pick it never works… why is it gotta be like this .__.
To be fair Laura’s st.MP into cr.MP is pretty practical to react to on counter hit, the time gap during this link and the hitstop on her mediums really helps to pull it off in a real match.
I got SF4 in 2012, started going to tournaments over here a couple of months afterwards, first match I ever won in tournament was in stream, should be out there somewhere… anyways, I never really went to my locals, I just showed up whenever there was a big tournament and played online as much as I could in a laggy ass tv. That laggy tv gave me a ton of issues since I had to play a ton of casuals to get adjusted to lagless play and if there was no way to get a ton of matches I’d get wrecked in tournament with shit like doing focus attack > suplex and nothing coming out, so I figured I had to start going to my locals to be able to adjust faster. This was in 2013 after they announced Snake Eyez, Justin Wong, Ricky Ortiz and PR Rog were coming over here.
At that tournament I did pretty meh. I got way over my head thinking I was going to fight Justin round 2 and I never prepared for my first match where I got destroyed by a basic Honda (not a knock on his game, his Honda basically beat me with basic footsies and I was never able to handle it). Afterwards I wrecked some shit in losers beating a dude who counterpicked me with Sagat and some other dudes from outside of the city only to run into Flocker and choke hard because he was a known player. The good stuff came afterwards when I saw Snake Eyez money matching Rasec (Gief from Monterrey and widely considered to be the best in the country with the character), Snake Eyez wrecked him 5-0 and I asked to go next. Put my money, started the match getting destroyed but I noticed something, at that point his defence wasn’t as good as the rest of his game, so what I did was I stood in sweep range and never blocked low looking to get a good read and go from there. Before I knew it it was already 3-2 and I was close to bringing it to 3-3 before he noticed what I was doing and just started grinding me down with his footsies, destroying me in the process. Afterwards he went “you really like your momentum huh? good stuff”, I never really had any time to talk with him about the match afterwards since the last train was close to coming and I had to run home, but the next day I just asked him inbetween everyone talking shit who was better, Rasec or myself and he answered that I was better, which felt great.
That match really made me think “hey, I can do this if I get into it” and I started showing up to my locals whenever it was possible, joining leagues, going to tournaments and all that. Went from trying to go 1-2 or 2-2 to being a clear threat for top 8 and being able to beat anyone here in a good day. I’d say that by the end I was the best Gief in the country and I honestly didn’t see anyone from the continent other than Snake Eyez playing a solid Gief like mine (as douchey as that may sound).
Going back to SF5, I’m having a bit of trouble to adapt both to playing on stick and to trying to get people to be honest without SF4 Lariat. I barely got to silver the other day because between getting a match every 10-15 minutes and just not being able to practice a ton it’s been difficult. You gotta understand it’s part of the game though, this is a new street fighter and some players already feel adapted to it while others need time to adapt to the flow of the game, but it will happen and it will happen sooner than it happened with SF4. With 2 CPT events in my country it looks like this year will be mighty fun to be a SF player in Mexico.
